Trying…

In the past, we did not have kueh chap in Sibu or not that I know of. I first had it in Kuching and if you do not know what that is – it is actually kway teow (flat rice noodles) but it comes in all shapes and sizes, not cut nicely into strips like what we usually see. This is served in a soy sauce-based broth and served with slices of meat, innards, half a hardboiled egg and tau hu pok.

I happened to be in the Rejang Park vicinity the other day and I noticed a stall in the coffee shop directly opposite the now-closed down cinema at the commercial centre. I usually go there for the Foochow fried noodles which I like a lot and I think the kampua noodles at the stall in front is pretty good too. This stall sells kueh chap, beef noodles, Sarawak laksa and toasted kompia stuffed with meat…

You can see the cinema in the background in the photograph.

I decided to give the kueh chap a try…

…so I ordered the small bowl which cost RM4.00. A big one would cost RM5.00.

I found that it was quite all right – not the best that I have had but it is not too bad. I would not go out of my way to have it but if I happen to be around that part of town, I would consider that as an option should I be looking for something to eat.

I may drop by there again one of these days to give the beef noodles a try…
