Nothing else better to do…

Life is slow, laid back in Sibu town…and if anybody asks me what he or she can do in this little town, I would just say eat…eat…and eat! There are coffee shops, food courts, cafes and restaurants everywhere but if you’re the type who tend to be a bit more particular with what you eat, you may need to find out where the best places are and head only to those to ensure that you will be absolutely and completely satisfied.

The thing is that there are so many that one would be at a total loss when trying the figure out which one would be better. Let’s look at the Dewan Suarah (Civic Centre) area, for instance. This block of about half a dozen shops, where Grace Cafe and the shop where I bought the lay peang the other day are located, already has two coffee shops and now, they have opened another one…

There is another one across the road in the block opposite and I’m sure there are at least six others in the other blocks that small place, not including three or more chu-char restaurants…and the food stalls above the market.

I dropped by this new place the other day and gave the kampua noodles a try…

It was all right, a bit too oily for me…so I would much rather have what I had at the other place I went to a few days ago.

I had the pian sip soup with my kampua noodles…

…and this too was just o.k. for me. The taste was a bit different from the usual, slightly sweet and something like the wantan soup that would come with the noodles whenever anyone has that in the peninsula. Perhaps it was because of the light soy sauce used.

The kopi-o-peng (iced coffee) was good enough and only RM1.20, cheaper than at many other coffee shops around and the noodles plus the soup came up to RM3.80, RM5.00 altogether for that breakfast. But I wouldn’t think I would go out of my way to eat there again as even in that vicinity alone, there are a few places that are, in my personal opinion, much nicer.
