Better than yours…

Ok…ok…I know I’ve been posting a lot on nasi lemak lately but the thing is that the other day, I saw Cleffairy’s post on the one she had that cost RM4.50. Let’s see what came with hers – the rice, of course and the usual suspects – the sambal, fried peanuts and ikan bilis (anchovies). Instead of a slice of hardboiled egg, she had one whole one, fried sunnyside up, one fried chicken wing…and there was even a piece of poppadom.

I usually buy the RM1.50 packet ones at my regular Bandong kuih stall as I find that they’re very nice and there would be quite enough for me for breakfast but actually, they also have these there…

Nasi lemak rendang 1

…that cost RM2.50 each. Everything’s more or less the same as what I would get in the RM1.50 packets except that there are no fried ikan bilis, instead of which they give one small salted fish in their place.

The sambal is nice and spicy…

Nasi lemak rendang 2

…and they give a quarter of an egg instead of the usual miserable one-eight and on top of everything else, there is a piece of chicken rendang…

nasi lemak rendang 3

– one big chicken drummet no less.

So what does everybody think? Is this RM2.50 more value for money…or would you rather fork out RM2.00 more for what Cleffairy had? LOL!!

  1. oh my gosh!!! salted fish!! i need salted fish…
this one more value for money wor…. how come so cheap?
i never really like nasi lemak, its the salted fish make me drool

Chicken wing, fried or bbq these days RM2.00 each…thus the chicken wing rendang must be RM1.00 each plus the RM1.50 nasi lemak, so RM2.50, very reasonable lor… LOL!!! 😀

  2. Cleffairy will “jump” when she sees this.. lol… i m not drooling now bec I have been taking nasi lemak for the past few days in the hotel… i m “safe” this morning.. hahaha…

Let’s see her response to this. See you later today… Already warmed up your vocal cords? LOL!!! 😀

    1. Walao… Karaoke ah? Aiyo… dun karaoke until banjir ah… Perlis there banjir liao… dono who go and karaoke until banjir. LOL!

Praise the Lord for he is merciful and kind. Weather has been great since I touched down in Penang – just a slight drizzle for a little while, Saturday morning.

    2. Claire, not Cleff jump. I JUMP ah…been dying to have Nasi Lemak for whole week. The usual stall no longer sell with sotong :(. That day went Pasar Mlm cari found 1 stall but bought the taste was yucky…

Kesian. Look around, I’m sure there are lots over there – not like Sibu…basically a Chinese (Foochow) town. Lucky that we can get nice nasi lemak around… 😦

      1. Bwhahahaha… kesian… CIkgu target diff ppl… lain orang pulak kena… hahahahaha!

LOL!!! One slash…and all afll down! Muahahahaha!!!! 😀

  3. Wow… RM2.50 can get Nasi Lemak with chicken rendang?!! It looks great too, a good start for Malaysian’s morning!

Tastes great too…and reasonably priced compared to kampua noodles = RM2.30-2.50 now…just plain noodles with a few thin slices of meat. 😦

  4. The best nasi lemak I had ate is at Damansara Utama, in a shop named Village Park. You gotta try this out!

That’s out of the way… Usually whenever I go KL, I would just stay at and stick around the Bukit Bintang area. No transport…and can’t stand the hassle of going anywhere because of the jam.

  5. look so tempting. now make me wanna makan nasi lemak at kpg baru later.

Ya…I think I’ve heard before. The nasi lemak’s good there.

  6. Hi!…KING OF NASI LEMAK!….See..ee..ee..dapnya, the nasi lemak.
    3rd post on nasi lemak…hahahaha!….

Betul tak!…RM2.50 for nasi lemak with chicken rendang…some more 1 whole chicken drummet… SLAP ME!….Hope I am not dreaming…

Hahahahaha…who’s counting? Cheap kah? How much like that in Kuching? I saw a catered one – for some students’ function in a school in Kuching…basic nasi lemak plus a fried chicken wing and half a slice of bread, all put nicely in an impressive compartmentalised plastic tray (RM1.50 each, I hear) – RM8.00!!!! That kind of business, sure can do one! Can make lots of profit!

  7. OMG… drool time. Ok im going downstairs to tapau nasi lemak RM1.50. Lagi murah bang! lol. and worth it. dirt cheap. and they still em in that brown paper packaging. 🙂

Our RM1.50 ones are exactly like that…just no chicken rendang with it.

  8. Wahahah, more nasi lemaks bro? Must be careful of diet already! 🙂

I know, I know…the santan is bad. Never mind, I’m almost 60…old liao! Just eat while I still can… 😉

  9. Rm4.50 is very expensive. Here for RM3.50 can get good nasi lemak already lor. :p

So ours at only RM2.50 only can be considered really cheap then?

  10. Nasi Lemak?
    Not good for the waistline.
    hehehe~~

Remember that, KIV…always keep in mind. As for me, gone case liao! No more hope. Muahahahahahaha!!!! 😀

  11. 😦 Mine was night nasi lemak…usually the nasi lemak at night wan much more expensive than the ones in the morning… the ones in the morning cost much more less, even with rendang ayam or ayam masak merah.

Strange. Maybe morning, they sell the leftovers? Eeeeee…… Muahahahaha!!! 😀

  12. Oh yea… mine came with kangkung belacan too… but then again… kangkung belacan shouldn’t cost that much. *snarl*

Used to be dirt cheap…or we could just go to the longkang and pluck. Not anymore… 😦

  13. Arthur,
I don’t care how much a nasi lemak cost now…as long as I can get the Malay Makciks ones that bungkus with daun pisang with nice delicious sambal. The rest is just an added plus.I must go to cari in kampungs when I balik mid April.

Aha! I saw that at a coffee shop yesterday – Penang Road, wrapped in banana leaf on the inside and brown waxed paper on the outside. RM1.30 only!!!! Don’t think it’s mak cik made though – the people at the stall Chinese…but they’re selling for RM1.30 only. Sooooo cheap! Didn’t try though as I would much rather have something else. Watch out for the posts on what I had…and did 😉

  14. i stopped having nasi lemak for breakfast for a long time now… not very healthy to eat so much carbo even for breakfast!

Ya…I should too. But the problem is they’re cheap, nice…and convenient for me to but otw to my parents’ place every day and have that for breakfast. Should cut down on it, at least…

  15. either or, as long as at the end of the meal, my stomach gets satisfied 🙂

I see you’re not very picky about food. I’m not really particular either. They say people like that will grow fat easily… 😦

  16. Huh?? Never heard of salted fish in place of fried ikan bilis in nasi lemak…but RM2.50 with a whole drumstick is dirt cheap, la. I think a good packet/plate of nasi lemak depends very much on the sambal, besides on how fragrant the nasi is. My favourite is with paru. Very difficult to find makcik who sells it because not many people favour it. Do you have that over there?

Ya…usually salted fish would be an added bonus and not to replace the ikan bilis. I would feel something’s missing without one of the basic condiments. Don’t know what’s paru, never heard of that. You mean grated coconut – they have the ones with sambal in pulut panggang or they put on stop of pulut wrapped in banana…but never had that with nasi lemak.

  17. I just had my breakfast, so I will not drool at these foods yet. 😀

Lucky you! It’s almost 9.30 and I have not had breakfast yet. I’m usually very regular when at home…but when travelling, all schedules will go haywire. Think I’ll just have it later – brunch…breakfast and lunch, 2 in 1.

  18. that’s really a packet of yummy yummy nasi lemak!! sometimes it can just be very simple – nasi lemak biasa with just ikan bilis, sambal and egg, and that can be very satisfying already.. 🙂

True, very true. For me, the rice must be lemak and fragrant and the sambal must be nice and pedas – two most important things.

  19. Wow…that’s way too cheap with chicken somemore..Grrhhhh…envy****

Yup, I thought it was cheap too or reasonable, at least… Value for money.

  20. Like i comment before, i miss this nasi lemak with salted fish. I prefer simple nasi lemak, those RM1 or RM1.50 per packet type, nice and sedap.

I can get this for you when you come back to Sibu… 😉

  21. Oh no, the paru is not grated coconut. It’s the paru-paru of the cow, cooked with chili/sambal dry version. Very nice…

Oh? The lungs? Can’t say that I’ve tried that and if I had, I can’t remember…
