This friend of mine lives with her family in Auckland, New Zealand. I don’t know how she stumbled upon my blog and started commenting on my posts…but I sure am glad that she did.

She took it upon herself to offer to meet Melissa upon arrival at the Auckland International Airport on Saturday and she even went through the trouble of taking her for lunch at this very nice place…

Melissa had the Eggs Benedict

Melissa's Eggs Benedict

…but my friend said that she did not finish it. I reckon it was because she was tired from the long 10-hour flight and she said that she did not manage to get to sleep at all…and besides, she was not eating well already that day before she left KL.

My friend herself had this Β beautiful dish of corn fritters with bacon and salad…

Yum! Yum! I love bacon! LOL!!!

Her hubby had the beef steak on buns with mayo and french fries…

…while her son had this…

Beef burger with fries

– a beef burger with french fries – the typical young people’s favourite…but the beef patty sure looks mouth-wateringly juicy and nice…and ooooo!!! The bacon!!! I bet it must taste really really good.

My cousin, Gerrie, who’s into everything organic, would probably like this drink that Melissa had…

Organic orange fizz

So, thanks to you, my NZ friend, Melissa got safely onto her flight at the domestic terminal and flew back to Wellington safe and sound. I owe you heaps and I certainly look forward to meeting you and your lovely family someday.

  1. Oh, God! I think I’m going to faint. Those food are heavenly! I’d love to sink my teeth on em… aiyo… this ought to be illegal… food pornography!

  2. i think im going to die of longing for those foode. nom3. i m soooo hungry. huhuhuhuh… but uno wat to eat, shereen is definitely an angel without wings. so kind!!

Hey! What a coincidence! Actually, I thought of using Guy Sebastian’s “Angels brought me here” as the post title but decided against it – wrong pronoun.πŸ™‚

  3. There is a such kind hearted and one of them is Shereen and we should do likewise to others…..amen

Yes, and you are one too…going out of your way for us everytime we’re in Penang and I would do the same for anybody who comes to town – except that hardly anybody comes… Sobs!!! Anyway, my doors are always open…

  4. You are so blessed… there are a lot of silent readers out there and we hope that we will be able to meet up with them one day…

Yes, make friends – the more the better. Looking at the state of affairs around us today, one thing we do not need is more enemies…

    1. Talk about silent readers…. when Mandy told me that she was my silent reader when we meet up at Restaurant Muar last time… I was shocked to death! I can’t imagine I have any! o.O

There are many who read but they do not usually comment. Check out your blog stats – you may “catch” some of them.

  5. That’s very very sweet of Shereen to go through all the trouble just for you and Melissa! You didn’t link her blog? At least we also wanna make such a good and hospitable friend mar! ;D

Sorry, her blog can be viewed by invitation only…and she would prefer to remain anonymous online, so I will respect that. Can’t disclose any further details…other than things you would have gathered yourself if you have been reading her comments.

  6. I love bacon too!! YUM YUM!!! More fats for my spare tyre! XD Hehe.

Melissa sent you these photos? Nice photos! Took me awhile to check out wiki on what eggs benedict are all about. πŸ™‚

Hah!!! We learn new things every day, eh? She uploaded them onto Facebook and I would go and get from there.

  7. What a great treat after a long flight! Put me down for a burger (young at heart) followed by the steak sandwich and maybe I can tempt you with a philly cheese steak sandwich!

    I’m tempted…!!! Canada, here I am! LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  8. The proportions are so epic. Far cry from what we have here. Going to use your favourite quote here. Beggars can’t be choosers. XD

Typical of places Down Under and in NZ…and I hear in the States as well. HUGE servings!!! And I always thought that Foochows are such great eaters! πŸ˜‰

    1. I can manage those huge servings. Just that… NO MORE SECOND SERVING FOR ME~ XD

Would be too full to finish the plate for a set of meal. Not to mention that drinks are refillable. :/

      I miss Perth.

You were in Perth? Studying? What happened? They got rid of you? Muahahahahaha!!!

  9. I am so blessed to have known her too through blogging too. We became very good friends. God bless her wonderful family.

Ah!!! Shereen’s friend! I’ve seen your comments in her blog. Thanks so much for dropping by. Welcome! Welcome! Any friend of hers is a fried of mine… πŸ˜‰ I’ll link you in my blogroll…

  10. I think you are very fortunate u got a very nice n trustworthy blogger looking after Mel. M sure u get to know her well before entrusting Mel with her. I know of a friend who made friends with someone thru the net from another country and then the new fren came to stay with her during a holiday. We all thought that was a very brave thing to do, becos the only contact they have before meeting is thru the internet. Personally for me,I will only let people who I know very well, like close friends and relatives/family to stay with me…….well….that is just me….

Wherever I go, I wouldn’t stay with anyone, not even close relatives or friends even and would rather put up in hotels – but that is just me! However, I’ve had a number of internet friends coming to Sibu and staying with me – absolutely fine, no problem at all.

I’ve got to know Shereen quite well via her comments and replies, emails…and also her blog – you would love it! She has all the wonderful recipes (many from her Malacca nyonya background), all the mouth-watering photographs of the things she cooks…but sorry lah! Can only view by invitation only – very exclusive one! Muahahahaha! And she even sent me a photograph of her family – oooo…her hubby soooooo handsome ang-moh and the young son too – too bad too young, otherwise can “phuek chin” already. LOL!!!

She actually offered to take care of Melissa that time when she was flying home but I had already made other arrangements then…and this time around, Melissa said she would like to meet her, so I said ok. Melissa says she’s like Martina – very nice and concerned, chatty…and Shereen’s hubby was so impressed with Melissa – said very hard to find such a sweet and decent girl these days. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, long story lah! Usually one can tell by the comments – those long ones are the sincere ones who are really keen on becoming friends, always concerned and every day they will keep coming back…and there are the very very brief hit and run ones – who would like you to go and comment in their blogs to increase their traffic for monetary reasons…and the others would not be interested in commenting in my blog at all or come back again ever as I’m not one of those sweet young things that they will drool over…

    1. Ya, from your description, I am sure Shereen must be a very great and nice person and if she is like Martina that is a double bonus for Martina is very very approachable and likeable!!! :)!

And nyonya some more! Just like one of us! Let me know if you’re heading to Auckland… Perhaps you two can meet. Btw, you can click the link to go to her friend, Gertrude’s blog – also all about food. Yum! Yum!

  11. I saw the news this morning. There was a tremor in Wellington. Hope Melissa is okay?

She’s fine, thanks…she did not say anything about tremors in Welly today and nothing in the NZ Herald either – all on Tuesday’s quake in Christchurch. Dominion Post says 92 dead, 238 missing. Terrible! What news was that…that you saw?

    1. That’s terrible.. I saw on NTV7 news this morning. About 5.2 magnitude.

But thank God she is all right.

Oh? She didn’t say anything about that – right now, out with friends having fun. NTV7? 5.2? I think at Christchurch, it was a quake – 6.3…and another one 5.6 and an after-shock 5.5…didn’t hear of any 5.2. Will keep checking, thanks – NZ news online more reliable than NTV7, I’m sure.

  12. So blessed! There are such nice people everywhere!

Indeed, praise the Lord…and the way things are in the world today, we really need more people like that. What the world needs now is love…sweet love.

    1. Yes, you can’t be more right about this.

…and we can be really thankful when we find a sincere selfless friend willing to go out of her way to help – these days, even someone whom you think is your best friend may just turn around and stab you in the back – Et tu Brute! The Chinese says, “You know his face, you do not know his heart!”

  13. I was having my kaya butter bread with nescafe ice when i read ur post and look those pics…eeeerrrr kaya butter bread out !!!! πŸ˜€

ROTFL!!! Poor thing! Life can be so unfair hor!!! Muahahahaha!!!! πŸ˜€

  14. So it’s the advantage of blogging, I mean knowing more friends around the globe & it’s good to have them as companion sometime when we are at their places πŸ™‚

True, very true… I do not blog for money but I feel so rewarded because through blogging, I have made so many good friends here, there and everywhere… The value of good friends can never be measured, as we all know.

  15. Hit n run!!! Lol. πŸ™‚ love to hang around ur blog STP and read your comments.

Em. Must I write 3 more paragraphs to show that I care? Coz I love u man! Hehe.

Hahahahaha!!!! Anything more that two or three words would be long enough…to show your love! πŸ˜‰ Imagine people posting comments like: “Nice!” or “Yummy food!”and bye-bye…

    1. lazing around your blog.

Hey where’s the chip and sofa! I wana watch my favourite movie!

Movie? What movie? No movies here…only live shows! Interactive ones… Wanna join? Hehehehehe!!!! πŸ˜€

  16. Shereen is really a darling! Friends in need are friends indeed! And those bacon slices are screaming at me to eat them! LOL!

    She is! Don’t worry… You’re not alone! I’m drooling too… 😦

  17. Alamak, Arthur…you almost make me pengsan!!!! Terperanjat gua…hahahha. My head now is too heavy for my shoulders…heheheheh.

Sometimes, you don’t have to see and meet someone to feel the connection. You just know somehow that someone you may know through their writing is just a nice person. That’s what happen between you and me and also with Gertrude. Although I have never met Gertrude, she has always been there for me in my difficult times. In fact, even when I never mentioned anything to her when I am down, somehow she can sensed it and will contact me to lend a shoulder to cry on. Same with you Arthur, you got a heart of gold and approachable and kind and genuine and …etc, etc, etc (lol!…lost for words ). Mel must have got that from you..she’s such a sweetheart!

Blush! Blush! No lah! Children learn by emulating those around them, especially the parents. When you bring up children with lots of love and affection, spending lots of together-time together, caring and sharing, you just cannot go wrong.

Ya, somehow we just know whether we will click or not…or we’ll just stay as internet friends – nothing much is gonna come out of it and so on and so forth. Melissa has met many of my nice internet friends like Auntie Claire and Auntie Elin in Ipoh and Uncle Eugene in Penang…and she enjoys being there when I hang out with all my very good friends.

  18. That’s very sweet of Shereen. Glad to know that Melissa has arrived safely.
I guess it’s quite true what you said about readers leaving their comments on blogs. For one, I’m a silent reader of numerous blogs but will not comment on every blog I visit. Some blogs will make me keep coming back for more (ahem, hint, hint), some I will leave comments occassionally and some I will not (for various reasons). What perplexes me is, bloggers who does not allow persons who do not own a blog to leave a comment..why, ah?

Indeed, it was so very sweet of her to offer to help out. Glad Melissa got back there safely – a few days later and there would have been problems as NZ airspace was closed due to the earthquake in Christchurch.

Search me! I do not know why some make it so difficult to post a comment – all the hassle just to do that. I would just log out…since I’m not welcome. After all, new commentors will have to await moderation…and those without blogs, I will verify using their email addresses via Facebook. If that fails, then I will decide whether to take the chance and accept or not – you’ll never know. All kinds of people in this world…

  19. CNY i had bacon nearly every day …lol even bacon with roti canai. Taste good la. πŸ˜€

Bacon and eggs and bread…that’s standard breakfast stuff, I would think…or ham? And roti canai, naan and whatever – they’re all bread, anyway. After all, they do have roti canai cheese these days…

  20. ohhh…..everything looks so yummy! Especially the corn fritters! So nice of Shereen to meet Mel and bring her for lunch.

Yup…and it has been a while since I had ham and bacon. Drool! Ya, I’m so glad to have such a nice friend there to take care of her while on transit.

  21. I’ve always like eggs benedict and look at the hearty bacon and corn fritters. All we have here is usually the sucky american breakfast with chicken sausage and beef bacon. sigh…

If there is any beef bacon…and the miserable frozen sausage that we can get from the supermarket some more. So depressing! 😦

  22. Gosh that Shereen sure sounds like a wonderful person. She must have a kind heart to welcome your daughter and see her to her flight. Its refreshing to know there are still people like that in the world these days. Wonder who she is….?

Hi Arthur, its Shereens hubby, nice to finally write to you. It was a pleasure to meet Mel last weekend. And yes, I guess I’m pretty lucky to be married to Shereen.

Oh me oh my! So glad to make the acquaintance. Yes, you are lucky – no doubt she’s such a fantastic lady. Can’t wait for the chance to meet you all one day. And thanks to you too for all that you’ve done for Melissa – I owe you one… Hope all’s ok at your end. Cheers!
