It certainly was a beautiful day – the 2nd of December…
My 58th birthday celebration started with mee sua, the traditional Foochow longevity noodles, in the morning, served with chicken soup cooked with ginger and traditional Foochow red wine…and my missus ordered a cake from Marcus…
…who runs a home-based business and makes the most delightful (and cheap too) cakes in town.
This was the very rich and fragrant butter cake coated with cheese…
Then, there was the dinner that evening with family and friends. We had a second round of mee sua…
…followed by this superb 5-treasure dish…
The mussels were heavenly and they were certainly very generous with the prawns in the salad/cocktail…
In the middle, they had a scooped-out pumpkin filled with fish maw cooked with sweet peas and young sweet corn – really nice!
I could not understand the lengthy explanation the lady gave me on how they would prepare this fried chicken dish…
…but it was very good too.
The cheese prawns were absolutely great…
– very fresh and very well done.
But I wanted to go back to this place as ever since the first time I dined at that restaurant, I had been craving for their very yummy braised pork…
…served with mantao (steamed buns). My daughter who normally is not really a pork person, loved it a great deal and actually thought it was the best dish all night. Then there was also their fish dish…
We had a plate of fried asparagus as well, which everyone loved a lot and they cleaned up the whole lot before I had a chance to take a photograph of it. Then, there was the glutinous rice plus yam paste dessert and also the fresh cut fruits to end the most wonderful birthday dinner.
The bill came up to RM319 for the food alone (for 12 persons) but the servings were so huge that we had to tapao most of the leftovers home.
Now, I wonder what I shall have on my 59th… Hehehehehe!!!!
omigosh! the pork! *drooling* and prawn! *double drooling*. wa you have so many nice food for your birthday! huhuhu. i am so hungry T_T
Birthday mah! THIS is what I call a celebration… Hehehehehehe!!!!
pork pork pork…drooolllll
Yum! Yum! My daughter says it’s sooooooo good the fat just melts in your mouth! Droooool!!!!! 😀
*FAINTED* The chicken… looks like to die for. Sobsosb… I go makan first… ishh… make me hungry oni!
Hehehehehe!!!! Everything was good that nite and cheaper than at the more popular Chinese restaurants around.
hahaha. u love the torture~
She enjoys it to bits! LOL! 😀
I must be a real masochist to be coming here first thing in the morning… just to see what’s on Cikgu’s plate! *SIGH*
Too bad you can’t eat it too… Then you may end up looking like me – so sui and tuapui. Muahahahaha!!!!
Initially… I thought it would be over Rm400. The stuff looks expensive leh…. especially the mixed platter.
I ordered the MOST expensive – RM80 from a choice of RM40-60-80…and that’s the most expensive dish among all that we had that night. The rest mostly around RM35-40 like that…for 12 persons. Cheap!
they wont go bankrupt meh selling that cheap? tsk3. living in sibu is so good. food so cheap!
No leh. This kind of restaurants can be cheaper as overhead charges are lower (not so grand and impressive) and turnover is more – people come and eat and go every day and night – not like the big restaurants – dependent on big functions and that’s all they will have each night…no other diners coming and going.
the 5 treasure………
Best in the world! Other places, they have a mountain of fruits in the middle covered with a layer of a few prawns sliced into halves (enough for one slice each)…and buried under the mayo…just to give the impression that there are a lot of prawns. Not this one, there were so many prawns that I had to finish the rest quickly before they served the next dish…
and the mee sua with the soup. yummmm! i love my soup with lot of foochow red wine! i miss home 😦 but i dun go back sarawak. which is so sad la.huhuhuhuhuhuhuhu
eh, if i go back to sarawak, bring me there for that pork. yummm!!!!
Come, come… So when will you be back? Bring your boyfriend too…or perhaps he can cook better – works in Singapore, right?…Everything’s better there! 😦
may 2011 i think, wont be back for cny too . sobs 😦 hahaha. i don’t know whether he can cook better or not. LOL i don’t think everything better there. he complain the kueytew noodle there not nice, but he enjoy the chicken rice there a lot.
Wah!!! Chinese New Year also not going home kah? So sad. Going to celebrate in boyfriend’s home lah like dat… May still long way to go…Maybe I’ll be in NZ, who knows?
Was this at Ming Mei Shi Restaurant?
It looks gr8! Might go there next time!
Yup… You’re inviting me to tag along? Muahahahaha!!!!
heyyy!! sorry!! 😦 hope its not too late for me, just wanted to wish u Happy Belated birthday!
Sobs… I’m so heartbroken. People now too busy…all lovey-dovey, missed my birthday by so many days. Bwahuhuhuhuhu!!!!! Tnx, anyway…
wow!! the butter cake coated with cheese looks soo yums!! my colleagues made marble cheesecake and fruits cake for me! love homemade one! 😀
This one’s homemade but for sale… Been doing it for many, many years and business is so good. Don’t hope to ask him to make for Christmas or Chinese New Year if you do not book a few months earlier…
Is Mee Sua synonymous with longetitivity? i wonder how this come about, may be the mee sua is always long in its nature…
Now nobody gives me mee sua to makan on my Bday already, mom used to do it..
Hey,how come no pictures of your friends one, next time ok?
Yup, mee sua is long and you are not supposed to bite or cut. Just slurp it all in and you will have a very very long life. Aiyor…so sad, no mee sua on your birthday. I will inisist and if missus does not cook, I will cook myself. Birthdays, anniversaries, New Year, people leaving…people coming back – must have mee sua on these occasions. No lah…don’t like to put people’s photos unless they’re bloggers who do not mind not being anonymous – mostly family and a few friends.
hey STP… for RM319, the food was really worth it!! So delicious looking and I am sure you and the 11 others had a great time savouring the sumptuous food!!
Worth every cent! It was really very good…and what a good way to celebrate a birthday! Everyone loved the food.
♫For he’s a jolly good fellowwwwwwwww… and so say all of us..♫ Great food and good price. Aiyo always like your pixz. tQ
Thanks. Glad you like what you see… 😉
Whoa!!! Love the 5 treasure dish with the pumpkin in middle first time seeing this kind..tQ
Ya..really very special! Was a good deal… 😉
So I finally got to see Marcus’s creation! Can’t wait to try his fruit cake. Nothing like home made cake. That chicken soup looks yummy too! Have a great trip!. I’ll be gone myself so might not be able to check in for a while.
I’ve got the address and phone contact now. You can get from me when the time comes. You’re off on vacation too? Have a nice trip! 🙂
BTW, can you send me your phone # by email? Not sure if I still have it since I deleted my FB acct. I’ll get M to call you on the 15. Thanks. Yes, going to CA tomorrow. You have a nice trip too and looking forward to reading all your Penang food escapades soon!
Sent! What? You did not save it in your hp kah> Tsk! Tsk! 😦
Ooo…I should go there next time, if it’s that cheap. The braised pork and cold dish look irresistible!
They sell buffet-style chap fan for lunch like at Blue Splendour. Actually the chef and the lady captain defected from there to open this restaurant of their own.
They also cater buffets, home delivery at RM15 or RM18 per head…and you can always go there to eat “chui chiak”. Somebody went and had the pork and he asked me why his pork so small – there were 4-5 people and they ordered for 2-3 persons…of course, their pork was small. They said the sweet and sour fish was awesome… Dunno same as what we had or not.
Happy belated 58th b’day. Eat mee sua = longetitivity. Have loonnnggg years to live!
BTW, l simply would love to try a piece of your cake, 🙂 cos no one gave me a cake during my b’day. 😦
Aiyor…so sad. If you’re in Sibu, I can get one for you… 😉 LOL!!!
Arthur…..HAPPY 25th BIRTHDAY TO YOU !!! Sorry was a litlle late though but better late than never :ppppp Guess you had a wonderful one with those scrumpitous dishes !
Have a nice day too !
Elin
Ooo…thank you, flatterer! LOL!!! Yes, it was a good one…what with my daughter home and the superb dinner. No complaints!
Happy belated Birthday…
very nice cake…juz wondering who make this cake?..whr to order?….It looks yummy.
And the food…..looks delicious…which restaurant? Maybe I should try it one day…
Marcus – go to his house 6B, Delta Lane 3 to order the cake… The restaurant’s in Fortune Commercial Centre (behind Rejang Medical Centre) – go straight along that road where Sushi Tie and Uncle Dom are located till you come to a small roundabout. The restaurant is to the right in the block immediately after the roundabout.
You can click the link in the post to my previous one for the name and the photo of the restaurant.
mmmmm……looks good! When i go to Sibu, I want to eat those dishes….minus the meesua and cake.
So when are you coming to Sibu? Must make a trip sometime… Many new places with lots of nice things to eat…like the burger in yesterday’s post, and the otak-otak in tomorrow’s…and the sizzling beef kampua…and the chicken croquettas. All nice – worth making the trip!
BEEF kampua? Err…..no thanks! Not even a huge fan of gubak mee.
You can have the usual…or “other modifications”. LOL!!! But it is still better to go elsewhere…a lot cheaper and maybe even nicer. 😉
scrumptious food..happy birthday!
Yum! Yum! Thank you… 🙂
Drooling habis…hihihi!…my baju all basah with air liur. After the celebration better detox…kesian your veins all clog up (spoilt sport). Can get Mel to tapau the pork with the roti kepit or not?
Not with NZ’s stringent laws regarding meat imports. Hey…the cheap airline is flying Christchurch…so MAS is now competing – low fares from Auckland to KLIA. Hop over and I’ll take you around to eat EVERYTHING… Just don’t blame me for what happens to your veins. Muahahahaha!!!!! Chinese say, splash cold water!
Happy birthday~~ ^^
Wow~ I like all the dishes~~ where is that restaurant?
Thanks. Well unfortunately it is all the way here over-sea in Sibu, Sarawak. You’re in Penang, if I’m not mistaken…but thanks for dropping by. Your first time here, I see. Will link you in my blogroll. Do come again.

The food was awesome…i would definitely order the braised pork when i go there again…in case i dont know the name i will show the waitress the photo of the dish that i took with my phone LOL….cheers STP!
Yup…the same thing I did when I went to order the fish – showed the photo from my blogpost and she complained no colour, hard to see. Your BB should be ok – photo has colour, no problem… LOL!!! 😀
