Fit for a king…

The night my daughter was to arrive from New Zealand – Saturday, 13th November, 2010, Mandy, my very dear friend from our years on national radio, picked me up at the hotel in KL and drove me all the way to check in at the Concorde Inn KLIA. Zee, another dear friend from the “radio family”, was so nice as to take her time off to tag along…

…and Zul, yet another friend from the same gang, joined us at the hotel and we made our way to the KLIA to wait for the flight to arrive.

I am never a fan of the stuff they sell at those fast food franchises but we had not had dinner and it was almost time for the plane from Auckland to land, so we decided to just have a bite to eat at the Burger King outlet which is located near the international arrival gate at the KLIA…

Burger King dinner

I had the double cheese…

Burger King - double cheese 1

…which tasted…like a burger…

Burger King - double cheese 2

…and there were side orders of fries…

Burger King - french fries

…and onion rings…

…as well as two boxes of chicken nuggets.

I also ordered a Swiss mushroom double cheese for Melissa just in case she was hungry after the long flight…and she had that for supper later in the hotel.

If I’m not mistaken, it was Mandy and Zul who picked up the tab for the orders, so thanks to the two of you for the treat…and thanks also to all three of you for coming along with me to the airport. Melissa was so delightfully pleased to see a “welcoming committee” there to welcome her home…instead of just me alone.ย It certainly meant a lot to her…as much as on 8th February earlier this year – the day when she left for New Zealand and Mandy and Zul were there too to bid her farewell.

I am indeed blessed to have friends like you all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart…

  1. ummm the burger look good=)

Not a fan of burgers…but I found a place in the kampong that sells very good ones – RM2.50 only with cheese, onions, coleslaw… So cheap! Hope to go and take photos one of these days and post on it!

      1. Bwhahahahaha… memang burger… beh tahan the temptation from ur blog. Came in that time not yet bfast ma! LOL… so made a burger… two burger patties, sumbat 2 slices of cheese, add in an egg…. out of tomato sauce, so throw in baked beans into the burger and makan! LOL! Definitely not a healthy bfast. Bwhahaha….my anak saw… lol… made him one too. Ask me got french fries anot. Haiihhh… too bad, tarak, if not will top the burger with french fries and makan everything at one go! Kakakaka!

Junk food…and I thought it makes people fat! Why you all like cicak kering? So kesian… Muahahahahaha!!!!

  2. Arghh… you evil man! Pagi pagi let me see all these… grrr… looks like today I have to go and cook my own burger liao. Ishhh… I wonder if I still have cheese? Nid to go korek korek and see… my house banyak ‘tikus’. Once buy cheese slices… will hilang very fast!

ps: Hope one day can meet Zee and Mandy again… they’re so much fun!

They’re my friends – all like me…so nice and so much fun bah!!! Imagine we were friends on air (radio) for so many years – sending messages, dedicating songs to one another…before we finally got to meet one another in person. I will always remember Melissa’s 18th birthday (the first one alone in Sg Petani)…they got somebody to go all the way to her college to send her a cake…and the djs covered the event live on radio…and when he got to the institute, he could not locate her! The suspense…the excitement of the moment…..Luckily, everything worked out ok in the end… LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

P.S. Isn’t there a book entitled “Who took my cheese?” or something like that?

    1. Radio eh? I forgot how many years ago I listened to the radio faithfully. Hmm… was it 1997? 1998? Ah, I tink it was 1998… the year Anwar was sacked from being DPM. I listened to Light&Easy to comfort myself. Miserable year. My dad got transferred to Kelantan, and I couldn’t fit in at school ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
I dunno how it’s like to get to know people thru the radio… Cikgu… write about your history with your radio family lah… *kaypo mode*. It must be really fun…so what did you do last time? Call to the radio station during song dedication slot? Did you call in for those Q&A program? Did you get involve in any radio pranks? Oooo!

I never called in. Shy lah…tongue-tied! But the dj called me a couple of times – gosh! It was so scary! I could have died of a heart attack. Hehehehehehe!!!! I think I posted on this radio family thingy a long time ago…maybe more than once. Well, we just sent smses…asked for songs, sort-of-chatted and joked with one another, made friends…and over the years, the regulars became very close – like family.

      1. Ohhh? Can sms to request and dedicate songs kah? I didn’t know that? Ketinggalan zaman liao when it comes to radio staff. =.= I tot if you wanna make dedication and whatnot, you got to call in!

Aiyor…itu zaman dulu, now zaman teknologi bah!!! That was a few years before my retirement – and what fun we had on air…and everybody joined in to wish me (and one another too) happy birthday each year – and 2007, one little boy even called in to sing me the birthday song! The celebration went on for a few days! And that was the year of my retirement! Oooooo…that was so touching! It’s just like me in my blog now – the story’s more or less the same. Last time, radio friends/family…now blogger-friends.

    2. grrrrrrrrr….now i hungry for a burger pulak….shall call McD home delivery????

Gosh! I wonder how many will be having burgers today…including own homemade ones! ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. *sobsob* Now thinking about the Restaurant Muar again… haiyorr… one of these days… I must go makan there again.

Drool…drool…!!! You’d love what I bought for my daughter from that kampong Malay food stall last Friday. Luckily, I’ve so many things to post…it will only appear sometime next week. Btw, this is the last KL post – starting tomorrow, you will see what we’ve been doing since Melissa got home – but no prize for guessing what that is….. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. *horrified* Makan and makan again? Seii lorr… can’t come here before I had my bfast! Eeee… ur blog is lethal… very lethal to those with empty tummy. LOL…

Eat, drink and be merry… What for if living in this world only to moan and groan, grumble and complain…? ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. Yes… true… so now I’m going for a second round of my own cheeseburger! LMAO…. bwhahahaha… cis… if post this on fb… sure kena piakkkk by friends who are dieting again. LOL!

Your friends…like kucing, where got any need to diet one? Birds of the same feather flock together…Muahahahahaha!!!!

  4. The airport reception committee as they must now be called are brilliant. When Marie and I were over Zul met us at the airport when we arrived, I thanked him by crushing his foot with my baggage trolley. When we left the party of many, including Zul, Mandy and Zee, came to see us off. Does make you think that they may have part-time jobs there ๐Ÿ™‚ Only kidding – the reception/farewell committee are the best!

LOL!!! Ya…they’re definitely the best! Really blessed to have friends like them. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Incidentally my local Burger King changed it’s name to Burnt Down King… big fire, place gutted and it smelt of burgers around here for weeks ๐Ÿ™‚ KFC next door was left standing.. and happy for the loss of competition… Hhmmmm

Gosh! Free smells for weeks – so how many kg did you put on? I read somewhere that plus-size people will put on weight just by smelling food. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Wow…it is great to have good friends all over the world ๐Ÿ™‚ Melissa has put on weight so you don’t have to worry that she is not eating well ๐Ÿ™‚ Have fun with her while she is back for her holidays ๐Ÿ™‚ you are sweating man…too excited ar? :p

No lah…KLIA was so very hot that day. I went to all those chutes where the cold air would be blown out – and I found that almost all of them were not on. I managed to locate one…and stood in front of it…but once I walked away, I started sweating again. Thakfully, the other day, it was cooler already… Ya…it certainly is good to have lots of friends everywhere. Melissa’s ok…put on weight but lost around 5 kg during the exam period. Sigh! I wish I could lose weight THAT easily…!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  6. I like Burger King. Especially their French Chicken. ;D

You seem to like those fast food joints a lot – well, I guess most young people do. I’m not young…so I’m not really crazy about them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. wow..yes, u really have wonderful friends.. it shows what a great friend you are too!!

Yes, that’s why I believe that I’m truly blessed…and I try to be a good friend to everybody too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Sorry, internet disruption, i was saying to have good friends, we need to be a good friends to others first, right?

i don’t fancy fast food burgers, i prefer road side burgers stalls, where they have the Ramli beef patties and can ask to “tambah tambah ”

    take care

Yup…and they’re soooooo much cheaper. Found a good one – will go and buy one of these days and post on it!!

  9. What a good looking bunch of people. I see someone’s a bit shy, hiding behind the menu. So that’s what you mean by radio family. I thought you guys worked on RTM or something. No comments on the burger king.

No…just a bunch of radio listeners linked through radio. Yalor…me camera shy…and definitely nothing much to look at, anyway. Hehehehehe!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. Don’t you like burgers from fastfoods STP? Here in Manila, I ate a delicious burger. It is not like the ones being sold at fastfood restaurants. It is juicy and real meat is placed between the buns with delicious mix of some veggies.

Ya? I hope I’ll get one like this for my birthday:
The chef promised he’ll make one for me but I have to remind him as the day approaches…

  11. Hmm..i seldom settle for Burger King…not till the day when i was at HK. Suddenly the crave for burger was so strong and the nearest i can find is BK..LOL. it seems where ever i go, i will not skip fast food..LOL

Waiyor…this kind of food, can have craving for it kah? You expecting? Wink! Wink! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. so sweet of Mandy, Zee and Zul. They always try their best to meet up with you.

Lucky i come here with full stomach, if no i will drool over the burger. I like burger.

You too? I don’t mind eating…but I would rather go for kampua, Foochow fried mee…satay…lots of other things instead.

  13. I just BK today too, well I had half, but spm boy had one and half, plus onion rings.

Never mind…he’s so thin – can eat all he wants!!! No problem at all, hopefully… (It’s in the genes! Muahahahahaha!!!!)

  14. Bro lately you have been going on “double” all the time..need to go to the gym when you get home to Sibu…haha Luv your pix lah..

Me…no use already lah! Gone case! But plus-sized people are always very nice – friendly, jovial, happy, good sense of humour…very funny! Agree? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  15. I like BigMac! Anyway, whatever with cheese inside will make me excited!

I don’t mind Big Mac…but not crazy about the pickles inside – would take them out and throw away. You like cheese? My mashed potatoes, my omelette etc…all I put cheese… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Hhmm, not very healthy but looks so tempting. I’m not a burger fan either but I prefer BK burgers over McD’s anytime ๐Ÿ™‚

Then you’re like me – not a fan but if I get to eat, I’ll just eat… No oohs or aahs, that’s for sure…

  17. Wow, u are sweating so much!

Melissa is a blissful girl ๐Ÿ™‚

It was so very hot at the airport that afternoon…all the aircon chutes not on, probably cutting costs and saving on electricity – no cold air coming in, except one…and I just stood in front of it! The moment I moved away, hot again…and sweating again. Ya…I/we try our best to make her happy. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. My family including my mat salleh husband love the Malaysian road side stalls that sell the Ramly Burger…orgasmic!! As for BK,we have an opinion that the KLIA ones taste the best compared to other BK’s all over Malaysia…lol!…it is a must have when we are in KLIA. Anyway, in NZ we love the Burger Wisconsin…the patties is about an inch thick, very succulent, juicy with the freshest ingredients. Even the roti is very nice. Down point is, the burger is too thick to fit into one’s mouth…terkoyak mulut!..hahhahahaah. Will bring you to have that when you are here…since you are allergic to Asian food in Mat Salleh land.

Ya…all the pseudo-authentic cooking to bluff the Mat Salleh! I wouldn’t have a problem biting into a big burger – I’ve got big jaws! LOL!!! But I know where I will be able to get really good authentic Malacca nyonya fare in Auckland – your house. Will invite myself… Hahahahaha!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

P.S. Dunno the difference between the BK outlets – all I know is that the one at KLIA (and all the airport shops, for that matter) is much more expensive than elsewhere. I don’t know now but in the past, I used to notice that the same shop outside is cheaper than the one inside (the departure lounge). ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  19. Hubby got bad diarrhea on our last trip back to Malaysia…but die die also must eat the Ramly Burger.Lucky he did not soil the bed that night while sleeping…muahahahahah!

I like Rambly burgers…but they don’t sell the brand at the supermarts here. Dunno why… They’ve others and some are really not worth wasting time and money on…

    1. Yes Carls Jr is flame grilled too, and oh so yummy!

My radio-friend, Zul, also chooses Carls, comment on Facebook. Where’s the outlet in KL? Any in Pavilion?

  20. U will never go wrong with BK whopper..only whopper though…other than that it is just burger like u said…but whopper is not burger ok…burger is burger…whopper is whopper…hahahaha…kelapa pening night yo

I always thought a BK whopper = McD’s Big Mac. Not really into burgers so I guess I can’t tell the difference – like people who can’t tell the difference between kampua and kolo mee…

  21. I always prefer Burger King’s over Mc D, Mc D’s burger is kinda kidding me, the portion is way too small even for a medium size lady like me!=_=

The last time I went to McD’s was when we went to KLIA to send Melissa off to NZ…and we just grabbed a bite at the outlet there – their prosperity burger (Chinese New Year time) and it really sucked big time. Where got nice…and it was not even cheap! Tsk! Tsk! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

  22. why are you sweating at KLIA?

That was February – earlier this year. It was so very hot…all the aircon chutes…no cold air coming out. I knew that as I went to each one and stood in front of them – managed to find ONE in the end and that cooled me off a bit but once I walked away, I started sweating again. Should have worn a t-shirt that day – I thought KLIA would be nice and cool but I couldn’t be more wrong… (and they make us pay SO much – airport tax! Tsk! Tsk! Malaysia Airports – blardy hell!!!)

  23. Woo~~~ sounded like fun! Esp meeting up with the “reception/farewell committee” as Martin calls ’em. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ya…they’re simply the best. So far since you started working in Brunei, you’ve never hopped over to KL? You can get their contacts from me…and meet up with them. After all, we are family… Too bad you were not at the reunion – it was so nice to finally meet one another face to face.
