A song for you…

If you may recall, Philip, who was originally from Sibu and is now residing in the United States, is an accomplished classical guitarist. He has been away from the country for many years and has thus lost touched with the local music scene. That day, he came across this song in my post by Suhaimi Mior Hassan and  loved it a lot – a welcome change, he said, from his repertoire of Broery Marantika songs.

Then, the other day, in his comment, he asked me for some more recommendations…but to be frank, I am a bit out of touch myself and if I have to list a few songs that I like, I would choose this one by former Gersang lead singer, Man Bai – Kau Ilhamku (You’re my inspiration)…

…and another all-time favourite has got to be Belaian Jiwa by Innuendo…

I do not know exactly what the title means – something along the line of “soothing one’s soul”.

Other favourites include Adibah Noor’s Terlalu Istimewa (Too special) and Sheila Majid’s Lagenda (Legend)…but there is one song that I really like a great deal and its music video clip is the one that appeals to me the most. That song is Awan yang terpilu (Melancholic cloud) by Ning Baizura…

The video depicts a typical traditional Asian father-daughter relationship where underneath the cold and stern, seemingly loveless exterior, the father actually loves the daughter very much and even though he cannot bring himself to express it, he is very proud of his daughter and her accomplishments.  I would not recommend this to the soft-hearted who will definitely shed a tear or two while watching the very moving clip.

Lastly, this is a song by a singer that I’m not really fond of – Annuar Zain…but I do like this one by him entitled Lelaki ini (This guy)…

So, Philip, what do you think of my selection of songs? And what about the rest of you? I do hope you like a couple of them, if not all…
