I stopped by this place again the other morning on my way to my parents’ house and I had a tough time trying to decide what I would like to eat. Eventually, I made up my mind that I would want to have some Sarawak laksa…and then I had to choose whether to order from the Malay stall or the Chinese noodle stall.
I had some of the items on the menu at that Malay stall before and I found that they were quite nice. On the other hand, I’m not a fan of the noodles from the Chinese stall – edible but nothing to shout about. In the end, therefore, I opted for the Sarawak laksa (RM3.50) from the former…
The colour looked good but other than that, the first impression was in no way very impressive. Where were the prawns? And where was the daun sup (Chinese celery)? For that price, they should be able to give a few prawns – three or four, at least. Otherwise they should give more of the omelette cut into thin strips…or chicken. Gosh! The chicken was not even shredded. There was a lot of mihun (rice noodles) though…
…and lo and behold! I did eventually manage to spot one tiny shrimp, smaller than a five-sen coin, lost among the strands of the mihun.
The laksa tasted pretty good though – much nicer than at some other places that I’ve tried before. I do wish that they would give chopsticks and the Chinese soup spoon though…for eating that with a fork and spoon was a real hassle and much of the gravy ended up sprinkled on my shirt. In the end, I managed to cope quite well by twirling the mihun around the fork like eating spaghetti…
My final verdict? Given a choice, even though it was nice, I don’t think I’ll ever want to eat that again considering the price and the measly bits of ingredients in it.
