What are the chances of two different people in two different parts of the country cooking the same dish at around more or less the same time? Very slim, don’t you think? But that was exactly what happened the other day when I cooked some fried rice for dinner and the next morning, when I dropped by Pete’s blog, I discovered that he had done exactly the same thing…except that he had roast duck in his while for mine, I had used roast pork instead…
Well, it so happened that there was a lot of leftover rice in the fridge…and on my way home, I had bought this slab of roast pork (RM10.00) for dinner. Usually when you buy any roast meat, be it pork, chicken or duck, they would give you some of the very nice barbecue sauce…
– probably what that had dripped from the meat during the process of cooking…but if you buy char siew (red barbecue meat), they will give you something that is similar to char siew sauce instead.
I decided to use half of the meat to fry the rice, so I cut it into very thin slices to be added to the rice later. I fried some finely-chopped garlic and thinly-sliced shallots in a bit of oil until golden brown and then I added the meat and some thinly-sliced french beans (I did not have any of those frozen vegetables in the house – corn, carrot and green peas) and chillies. After the beans were cooked, I added the rice and mixed it thoroughly with the ingredients. Then I poured in the gravy and stirred until it was spread evenly over the rice and finally, I broke two eggs and added that as well. Then, the fried rice was ready to be served…
Looks pretty good, right? Tasted pretty good too!!! Yum! Yum!
