You’ve got your troubles, I’ve got mine…

Has your other half been grumbling that you’ve been cooking the same things all the time? Or have your kids been moaning and groaning that they’re so tired of eating the same boring dishes day in and day out? Well, you’ve got your troubles and I’ve got mine…but count your blessings! Yours are not even half as bad as mine, I assure you.

Now, let me tell you why. You see…when I cook, I will have to make sure that it has to be something that I have not cooked and featured in my blog before and when I go out to eat, I cannot go back to the same place and eat the same thing again as I would have posted on it already. Otherwise I will not have anything to blog about at all. LOL!!!

Well, thankfully, my attempts at whipping up some new dishes have been quite successful, like this meat with pineapple dish that I cooked the other day…

STP's pork with pineapples 1

I guess you can use any kind of meat…and all you have to do is to cut it into thin slices and marinate it with three tablespoons of smoked barbecue sauce, two tablespoons of dark soy sauce (mainly to give it a darker colour though I was not very successful in doing this) and one scoop of gula apong (attap/palm sugar). I guess you can substitute that with sugar instead…and actually, it is to balance the saltiness of the soy sauce and the sourish taste of the pineapples.

An hour or so later, fry some 5-6 thin slices of ginger in a little bit of oil till fragrant and then put in the meat, stir a bit and cover to let it simmer. The marinade plus the juices of the meat would ooze out gradually – stir periodically to glaze the meat with the gravy. Simmer for a while to reduce the amount of liquid in the dish…and when the meat is well-cooked, add the pineapples, cut into bite-sizes, and mix thoroughly before serving…

The Chinese celery and sliced chillies are optional. I have added them merely for the colour to make the dish look more attractive.

Well, I also fried this plate of french beans as the vegetable dish that day…

…even though it wasn’t really necessary as the pineapples would be fibre-enough.

So, go ahead and give it a try! You will not be disappointed, I’m sure…as personally, I felt it was really very nice and I wouldn’t mind cooking that again when my daughter comes home for the holidays.

  1. LOL… they grumble grumble… mogok lorr… dun nid to cook. Eat out. Bwhahahahaha… that’s what i do. 😛

Eating out all the time, no good…especially when you eat Chinese – all the salt, the msg and the oil…and it is so expensive…and not necessarily nice. 😦

    1. Ya, most are not nice. But sometimes… I kinda fancy eating out… especially when I got tired of eating my own not so nice cooking. Hahahahahaha! *sigh* Sometimes, i wish my oven din go Kaboom… I could have experimented with a lot of stuff. *sulk*

Buy a new one… X’mas is coming. Be nice to your hubby.

      1. Cis… be nice to him no use punya… penat only…unless I tell him what I want… he’ll pretend dono. Have to be direct punya, cannot hint hint. 😦 Typical Cina apek…. haihhh… so if I really want… just ask him for money or ask him go buy… *SIGHHH*

Kesian… If only you had married somebody like me, how happy you would be! Always choose big and fat ones – see smallkucing, so happy! Muahahahahaha!!!! 😉

  2. look delish but never try putting pineapple to meat leh. maybe shud try one day.

Very nice, go ahead and try…but a word of warning!!! You must cook just enough to finish in one sitting or the pineapples will tenderise the meat and make it very soft – like fish maw or beancurd skin. We did not finish, so we warmed it up for dinner the next day and were shocked to find out about this. Or perhaps you can cook it without the pineapples – also very nice.

  3. so far my kids dare not grumble.. or perhaps the reason is.. i seldom cook at home too! so i guess they welcome it when i do.. STP, good for you too, at least it keeps your mind working thinking of what to cook the next day or where to eat .. after all, chinese saying, Eating is Prosperous? hahaha..

Ya…as you can see from my shape and size, I certainly look VERY prosperous – toobad it’s just the look! 😦 Muahahahahahahaha!

  4. Never mind they grumble, cook for me instead, i love home cooked simple dishes…you know the types that small in portion and not lavish…so cook for me ya..

any way, as far as cooking is concerned ,nothing can stop you one lah…you can like you said whip out the dishes with simple ingredients right?

have a great week ahead, is your cough still bothering you? mine ok already, i just found out one supplement that works magic as far as sore throat, cough and phelgm is concerned… go buy Pro-biotic, hantam as many as you can… chun one

Oh? Must go to the pharmacy and buy it later – I’m still coughing but not as bad as the other day. Hmmm…come to Sibu with your family and I’ll cook for everybody. Cheap airline having promo starting midnight tonight – zero fare…so get online and try your luck! 😉

    1. What a moving tribute to Yasmin Ahmad! I’ve only seen Sepet, will have to look for her other movies. Yes, fitting song too, Terlalu Istimewa. I like the singer, very soulful voice but not crazy about the song, sounds a little too western for me. Found a bunch of Suhaimi songs on youtube. Someone called him the Malaysian Broery, but I think he’s better. He writes his own songs!

You mean the post? Ya…I love her commercials and “Sepet”. Talentime’s not bad… Hmmmm…suddenly Suhaimi has a new fan! Watch out for my song-post as promised – scheduled for Friday….

      1. Friday, will be on the road, may not be able to respond. Any chance of postponing to Sunday? Looking forward to it! Yep, Suhaimi suddenly has a new fan!

No problem. Friday, I’ll be flying to KL too…so I may not be responding to comments either. Will be back in Sibu late Sunday night.

  5. Wow… ur dishes looks delicious >.< Nice cooking there haha.. But u can go back to the same eating place, just order a different food coz some places have certain nice and not-so-nice food lol

Thanks. Yup…I can do that but if something is really nice, I will not be able to eat that again – unless I have lots of other things to post about and I do not post on it.

  6. Haha! You are right. You have a double problem. To cook for your other half and to whip new food for the visitors of your blog. ^_^

It is great that you could always come out with good posts, even if you are posting on a daily basis.

    Keep up the good work!

Thanks, so glad to have a loyal reader like you. You keep up the good work in yours too…

  7. the last photo looks a bit like my rojak vege LOL…

Huh??? You have veg in your rojak? Or do you mean that it looks like something you cook….?

  8. the meat with pineapple look good, altho i don’t eat pineapple but after cooked i eat. hahahahha, now my saliva is oozing out!!!!!!!!

Lucky Mrs Wee, no need to headache on what to cook, this important task she leave it to you. LOL

You can leave out the pineapples – will taste just as nice….plus if you’re keeping a lot and keeping it overnight, the pineapples may tenderise the meat and it will lose its meat texture – not nice anymore. Actually, att first, I thought I would cook that as an all-in-one dish and then I changed my mind and fried some french beans. 😉

  9. no need to grumble lah, the dishes look super delicious and yummy to me.. i like them, and i am super hungry now drooling over both dishes~~ 😀

You’re married? Who does the cooking at home? Well, you do not post on the food you eat so it does not matter even if you eat the same thing every day.

  10. lol.. at least your problem for not cooking or eating the same thing is because of your blog.. For me.. it’s just a very bad habit.. I prefer eating something different everyday.. 😛

and yes.. the dishes you whipped up looks really delicious.. yum yum!

Thank you, thank you… I’m sure your mum’s a fantastic cook, so coming from you, that’s a real compliment. Hmmmm….glad your attitude towards food does not apply when it comes to boyfriends! Muahahahahahaha!!! 😉

  11. OOhh very creative way of cooking! I love having ginger in my food.. helps to keep wind away. LOL!

I’m not really a fan – too “heaty” for me…but it goes well with meat.

  12. Hhmmn, I’ve never attempted any dish with pineaple, come to think of it…maybe bcoz I don’t like to eat cooked pineapple. Even when eating out, I tend to ignore dishes cooked with pineapples. Eating it raw is fine and pineapple tarts taste great but cooked pineapple? mmmm maybe I’ll attempt to cook it one day 🙂

There’s pineapple in curry fish/head and also in assam prawns…and the Malays also have this very nice spicy assam pineapple vegetable dish…and the Indians have lovely pineapple chutney if you go for the banana leaf rice and the Thais have their pineapple fried rice – actually, it isn’t that uncommon…pineapple in cooked dishes. My missus has cooked chicken with pineapples – also nice!

  13. hey hey! pineapple with chicken meat is one of my fav! too bad dad only cook it once in a while. :/

Yes, my missus has cooked it with chicken before – nice also. Your favourite? Tell your dad lah… I’m sure he will cook it more often if he knows that you like it. 😉

  14. Pineapples!! My friend boiled soup with pineapples and bitter gourd with pork ribs and red dates that day. She said very DELICIOUS. Her hubby loves it! Maybe you can try her recipe.

Wonder what else she put inside – ginger or garlic or whatever?

  15. so i guess you also face the same dilemma – looking for things to blog or not to blog the same food twice. haha..

Sigh!!! And when the food is nice, we can’t eat that again – have to try something else…
