I may have blogged about my love-hate relationship with reality shows before but it does not stop me from watching year in, year out without fail. We only have the “American Idol” on satellite tv (I don’t watch the local ones…no, thank you)…but I get to see some of the others online.
The end result can and has been pretty frustrating. I was rooting for David Archuleta and the other David won…and how could Adam Lambert not win, you tell me? This year, Crystal Bowersox was way better than the other fella in the grand finale but didn’t win either. What’s the name of that guy now? Gee! He’s so forgettable…
I was disappointed also when Susan Boyle lost out to some dance group – I can’t remember the name either – on Britain’s Got Talent 2009…and in last year’s X-Factor, I thought Danyl Jonson was the best but he did not even reach the final. Still, that does not keep me from watching…
…and this year, my favourite in X Factor UK 2010 is Mary Bryrne…
I am not too sure but it seems that they have different categories – one for the young, one for the not-so-young and one for the groups. I do not know how it will work out in the end, whether there will be one overall winner or three winners – one in each category.
Anyway, back to Mary, I think she has a powerful voice, she sings her heart and soul out and she does not need any of those distracting back-up singers and dancers. Every performance is just Mary, all by herself.
Down Under, in X Factor Australia 2010, my favourite is Sally Chatfield, …
Of course, she’s nowhere near half as good as Mary. I suppose experience is an important factor that separates men from boys, ladies from girls…and she lacks the confidence, the class and finesse that Mary possesses but she isn’t too bad, not bad at all.
Well, I guess I have a soft spot for plus-sized people…even though usually, they will not win in the end as there is a bias against them. It seems that being fat, you do not have that so-called “star quality” but anyway, there can be no denying that both Mary and Sally are pretty good. What do you think?
I dono about all these young chaps. I’m an old Auntie liao. LOL. So I like the Three Tenors… ahahahaha… I love Parvarotti the most! π
That’s the dead-as-a-doornail one… You’re as old as you think, they say. That’s why I’m still so young… LOL!!! π
It is all about the votes.
Ya…and really sad that they vote based on looks and all the wrong reasons…not talent! π¦
Hahaha.. i think they will make fine opera singers XD
Notty! Notty!!!…Ah well, as they always say, “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings.” LOL!! π
I don’t watch too much Talent Search shows, I am able to watch it when my brother is home and insists that he want to watch American Idol and the like.
I agree with your observation that most of the times, it is not the talent that matter to voters of these contests. Sometimes, they just look if the contestant looks good, etc.
It is the same in the talent search in the local TV here in the Philippines. The good-looking people win most of the time but after some months, they will be forgotten because they do not have enough talent to show to the public.
I’ve seen some of those shows on youtube – gosh, Filipinos are so good, so talented…and they have the looks to match as well. Our local ones can hardly come anywhere near that level… π¦
Ohh, I KNOW, RIGHT! How could Kris Allen win over Adam Lambert? It’s the most unfair thing in the world! Now look, Adam Lambert has achieved a WAY bigger success than Kris Allen. Kris Allen was pretty good but Adam Lambert IS A STAR.
These plus size singers are really good at belting high notes.
Yup…like big loudspeakers – they’re more powerful. Muahahahahaha!!!! Yup, Glambert should have won!
BTW, they’re charging aroud $2 for one item off the menu. And yes, you can make it yourself. Just add in crushed ice, milk, cereals, chocolates, nuts, and whatever else you want! π
Ya…I guess as much as most of the ingredients are easily available off the shelves at the supermarket, not made by them themselves. $2 is reasonable.
argh….I dont like follow these shows. All about voting. Haiz.
I follow Amazing Race Asia. Start to follow coz one friend’s sis was in the team. Forgot what season la. They didnt win. Was one of the 3 teams that got into the final
I don’t watch Amazing Race… Just watching them race already makes me tired. LOL!!!
they hv good voice..
Yes, that’s for sure…
Aiya, long time didn’t watch these shows liao…..everytime only AFC…ha ha ha
I only watch these singing shows…and AFC – a bit better than you! LOL!!!
I was rooting for David Archuleta too.. but David Cook won.. Adam Lambert? oh, Kris Allen won.. or was it Chris Allen.. not so sure of the spelling but he came to KL one time.. he has the boyish look… the best season so far, to me, it was the David’s batch… the ladies were beautiful and they were quite good too…
Ya…every year, so disappointing but I still love to watch. I love to listen to songs and hear good singing. That’s what I would still watch year after year even though the results may not turn out the way I hope they would…
Hi there STP! Saying hi all the way from China! π Wow you really do watch a lot of reality shows! I only watched American Idol so far and I loved David Cook! π As for Adam Lambert, I was expecting him to win too.. but oh well.. What I noticed though, is that the second place winner usually becomes more popular after the show. For example, Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert and also David Archuleta seem to be more well-known internationally compared to the first place winners! π
Hi! Bet you’re having lots of fun there! My blog not blocked? Safe for public consumption, I guess. I hear Facebook, youtube…all blocked. Ya…the losers all end up doing better – that just about shows who actually are the better ones and in a way, they were cheated of the title. π¦
uh…. im done with all these reality tv shows.
LOL!! Frustrating eh? Well, some people never learn…ME! π
Speaking of fat people, Adibah Noor is doing pretty well in Malaysian scene though.
Anyway, for American Idol, it’s always the 1st runner up that go around having concerts and new albums and what nots. The winner was never heard of after that fateful night of winning the show. That, I think, shows who the real winners are.
In Adibah’s own words in a Star interview: …Nonetheless, she gamely turned up for the competitions, but now claims: βI never won because of my size.β
Ya…they end up more successful…but they never won the title! Cheated. A real rip-off!!!
voters love underdogs…and many dont like simon..so just making sure he misssed out on the contract for the better man..make sense///###@^^%$///???..does to me hahahahaha
Ya, the poor man! They all hate him. Last year, they succeeded in preventing the X Factor winner – Joe McElderry or something (singing “The Climb”) from becoming the Christmas No. 1 in the UK by supporting an old rock song. This year, they’ve started the campaign again – on Facebook, they have about 3000 supporters already for the “Let somebody else be christmas number 1 this year not X FACTOR” page. Gosh! Some people really have nothing else better to do…
well, most of the time it might not be the best talent to win, but has to be the one which is most balanced in terms of talent and commercial value.. π
Not so much in terms of talent but yes, in terms of commercial value…which unfortunately, does not include being fat! π¦
i like the song you don’t have to say you love me ! and this version is good too!
well this is unfair world the one who deserve it more usually don’t win eh . =(
Ah well…what to do? Nothing in this world is fair. π¦
i don’t really watch reality shows nowadays and in fact don’t really have time for TV.. poor me…
Ya…poor you indeed – the yuppy (young urban professional), the career woman… π
