What’s it all about, Alfie?” This is one of my favourite Burt Bacharach & Hal David’s classics…

…but this post isn’t all about the song. It’s just that the other day, I went for lunch with a blogger-friend by that same name and also Ryan who’s in Russia, studying to be a doctor and is presently home for the summer holidays.

I got to know Alfie through our blogs and it turned out that he’s the son of some very old friends of mine….ummmm, actually, by “old”, I mean…but wait a minute, and that too, I guess! ROTFL!!! Ryan was in my Literature class at one time but somehow somewhere along the way, he dropped out and I never saw him again…until we got reconnected recently via Facebook.

I am not going to give the details of where we went for lunch as I had posted on it many times before, so I’ll just share some of the photos that I look and you can drool over them.

We had an assortment of roasted stuff which included roast duck and roast chicken…

Roast duck & roast chicken

…and more roast chicken…

Roast chicken

…and we also had roast pork…

Roast pork

…and char siew (barbecued red meat)…

Char siew pork

…and Chinese sausage…

Chinese sausage

…and roasted pork ribs.

I’ve been having the stuff so often as my house is close by, so you would not hear me shouting about it…but perhaps, it would be a treat for the deprived “Russian” among us and I certainly enjoyed the great company. We actually sat there and chatted, bantered and joked till way past lunch hour, just imagine that.

Anyway, getting back to the song, what I really love about it is the lyrics. See what you think of it…

What’s it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What’s it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
or are we meant to be kind?

And if only fools are kind, Alfie,
then I guess it’s wise to be cruel.
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie,
what will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there’s a heaven above, Alfie,
I know there’s something much more,
something even non-believers can believe in.

I believe in love, Alfie.
Without true love we just exist, Alfie.
Until you find the love you’ve
missed, you’re nothing, Alfie.
When you walk, let your heart lead the way
and you’ll find love any day, Alfie, Alfie…

Nice, eh?…..Have a lovely weekend, everybody!
