Lost Horizon…

This is an extension of my earlier post on the 360 Hotel at Hock Lee Centre in Kuching.

When I phoned in to make my reservation, I was informed that the government rate was RM135 nett per room, inclusive of continental breakfast for two. “Continental?” I thought…and I imagined a cup of coffee and two pieces of toast to eat with butter and jam. An American breakfast would, at least, be a more decent meal to start one’s day.

That day when I checked in, they told me again and added that it would be at no, not the Lost Horizon (I wonder if the disco, thus named, at the Shangri La, Singapore is still there or not?)…

…but the Horizon Cafe on the 18th floor from 6.30 till 10.00 a.m. The 18th Floor? Now, that would be very high up, so I decided that I would drop by the following morning just to check out the place and have a cuppa.

That was exactly what I did the next morning…and was not disappointed at all with it. The glass walls all around provided a bird’s eye view of much of Kuching city…

…and they did not just serve some miserable continental breakfast!

It was not a full-scale buffet like at many hotels…but there was a porridge counter with all kinds of yummy condiments including hard-boiled egg. I would think that if one is having porridge, omelette would have been more appropriate. Then there was a bread and bun and muffin counter, a cereal counter and you can help yourself to the half-boiled eggs by the side and there was a fruit section too. On top of all that, you can also have a choice of fried rice, fried mihun, fried cocktail sausages and wedges.

We would be heading to my sister-in-law’s place in a jiffy and she specifically said that she would want us to have breakfast there, so I just had a light one to sample some of the stuff…

It seemed that the hotel itself was not running its own restaurant…so the food for breakfast was catered from this place called “Little Lebanon”. I noticed that the waiters were wearing the uniform, so being the busybody that I was, ย I asked. According to the sweet young lady “captain” (who doubled as the receptionist at the hotel), after 10, hotel guests would be free to spend their leisure at the place just to sit around, enjoy the view or read the newspapers and magazines and help themselves to the tea and coffee. She did not say anything, so I reckoned those would be on the house.

Well, whatever it was, it certainly was much better than what I had expected – a continental breakfast!

Wow!!! He cooks so many things for breakfast. So nice. Usually if I have fried rice, that’s it. Other days I may have mee or mihun…or porridge, or egg and sausages/ham/bacon. Definitely all at once like this…

    1. yea he prepared varieties one cz all of us different needs. haha! well he just used to it la, if not we all wil start complaint :p but for sure everyday must have porridge! haha! n also cakes for my lil baby sister. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. bt, u’re the FC for my post, u want to gimme ur better pic or i just use the previous blurry pic??? heee. :p

Just use the blurry one lah – all the same, and at least, when it’s blur, can’t really see how old and ugly I am! Hehehehehe!!!!

  4. RM135 with continental breakfast?!!! “Dai Dou Lan” lar~!!(Cantonese- worth it until rotten)^-^

Yup…it definitely was worth it. Pity the location isn’t that great, but no complaints lah! Wouldn’t mind staying there again.

  5. Great views and brekkie! I always love it when hotels includes breakfast in their packages esp. hot ones! One can take their leisurely sweet time n stroll in for breakfast n no need to worry abt having to find out where to go to eat esp in strange places. But of course in S’wak I rather don’t have the breakfast included! :)!

Ya…in Penang also. Wouldn’t wanna miss all the good food around. But not my daughter though. When on holiday, she would like to sleep in…and get up late, and breakfast is usually until 10.

  6. Food looks good. Like the look of the bihun.

I guess the hotel wants the guests to feel at home la. Sit around and relax.

It was ok…just like breakfast in many other hotels and I guess it is better than what they offer at that hotel in Bukit Bintang, KL where I stayed… I love the place, really nice, very impressed with it.

  7. The food looks nice.

I guess the hotel wants the guests to be comfortable , relax and chat at the restaurant lo.

Oops! Duplicate comment. Dunno what happened but both your comments went to spam. Had to go there to retrieve. Never mind, tambah one extra comment for this post. Muahahahaha!!! Gee! Where’s everybody? That fairy’s gone hibernating or what?….

  8. wow wow…this is super nice breakfast indeed….looks delicious

It was nice enough, a decently good buffet breakfast…and definitely not a continental breakfast. Dunno why they call it that. Btw, your first time here? Always see you in many other blogs…and I thought you’ve dropped by before. Never mind, welcome – I’ll link you, so do make sure you’ll come by again and again. LOL!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. U know, I donno where I came across but I recently saw a contest and the winner will win a nite stay in 360 hotel! Then i remembered u mentioning bout it. being a complete circle and all.. (if i remembered correctly) ๐Ÿ˜› now.. i dunno where that contest is.. sigh.. ๐Ÿ˜€

LOL!!! Guess it was just not meant to be. If you wanna stay there, you’ll have to fork out your own money! ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. I was there before. It was clean & the rooms were spacious.
Glad their breakfast is good too.

Ya…really value for money in terms of comfort and all. Very hard to get that rate at other hotels… Either they’re very small or they’re not nice at all. The better ones – RM200 plus at least – those in the Golden Triangle.

  11. Wow, the setting of the place looks really nice for breakfast ! Bright and cheery, with the sunlight streaming in like that …. Although I’ve always had a problem waking up for hotel breakfasts on holidays … by the time I’m up it’ll almost be the end of the session already …:P

LOL!!! Just like my daughter! And when I woke her up to go for breakfast, she would be grumpy and groggy from sleep, so most of the time, I would just let her sleep and I would go and enjoy breakfast alone! ๐Ÿ˜€ Ya…the place is so very nice with the scenic view all around. I dunno why they do not want to operate their own eatery – I’m sure it would be delightful to go all the way up there to dine. Would be such a romantic setting, I’m sure… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Aww….a good scenic place to enjoy your breakfast….it is appetizing too. ๐Ÿ˜€

Foodwise ok lah…biasa! Love the place! 18th Floor…!!!

  13. I really love it there! Imagine even after almost four months staying there! But I love my new home even more!

Ah! So where are you staying now? Too bad I was tied up with my nephew’s wedding – didn’t have time to catch up with anybody. Maybe you were not around even – always jetsetting here and there. ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. wow.. not bad.. looks like wonderful breakfast buffet to me….. rate of hotel is also very reasonable! btw, i think there was one man looking at u when u snapped the first pic.. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ya…I did not notice until I had uploaded the pic onto my computer. Ang moh! LOL!!!

  15. There d nightview I think it is pretty~~coz when such high c down~~Almost can c all Kuching(hiperbola)Coz im ๅคง็‚ฎไป™~~~

Yes…I bet it was. Didn’t manage to go up at night – was at the wedding banquet all night…and so were you! LOL!!!
