Faithfully…

When I came back from one of my recent trips to KL, my sister commented that I should have brought my paper bag there.

Paper bag 1

You see, I have been faithfully using this woe lai yea aka Kiew Brothers paper bag for over two years now…

She said that they would probably give me 1 kg of their yummy bak kua (sliced dried pork) free as a reward for my loyalty and for advertising for them all this while.

It is quite obvious that the masking tape is what is holding it together…and as long as it can still be used, I do not see why I should get rid of it and use a new one.

Why, they have even come out with a new design for their paper bags…

Paper bag 2

Now, please don’t jump to the conclusion that I am short of paper bags. In fact, I have a whole lot of canvas/cloth tote bags…as well as other paper bags. I even have those from their rival companies…

Paper bag 3

…and also from prestigious names like Dunhill and Hard Rock Cafe (KL)…

Paper bag 4

…and don’t forget! I also have a plastic bag now from Harrods! LOL!!!

        RM5??? What brand? Roll-it-yourself tobacco kah? If Dunhill, I think it’s RM9 something for a pack of 20 lor…

      2. RM 5?!! Seriously? Where? What? Now mostly RM 9.30 for 20’s loh! Unless you said he smokes those local or Indon cheap and stinky kretek cigarettes lar – Gudang Garam, Sampoerna, Djarum, etc. Those no need RM5 per pack I think πŸ˜›

PS: He no ‘makan’ Dunhill wan. He ‘makan’ B&H wan πŸ˜›

Hahahaha!!! She doesn’t know me as well as you do… B&H is the same price…unfortunately! πŸ™‚

Hah!!! Watch out! I know everything about you… Hahahahaha!!!

  3. hahaha! at my home oso got a lot leh, my dad owez say my mum. haha.

Your mum shops a lot, izzit? My missus loves nice paper bags – everytime I came back from travelling with nice bags or even her own from her shopping, sure you would see her use to bring something to work…and you would never see them again! Sulk! Sulk!!! Hahahahaha!!! πŸ˜€

  4. hahaha..you’re like my mum! only she uses plastic bags =.=…it annoys me to no end mainly because she still sees fit to steal my handbags…but she’s convinced using plastic bags means no one will try to rob her.lol

Hahahaha!!! I don’t use plastic bags…just these paper bags. Ya…one look at the bag and any potential robber would change his mind about robbing me – not worth the effort! Hahahahaha!!!

  5. Haha, I collect paper bags too !! Whenever anyone comes home with a nice paper bag I tail them like an annoying puppy till the bag joins my treasure stash … πŸ˜›

LOL!!! You collect them? I will use them…eventually! When one is really beyond repair, I’ll use a new one. πŸ˜€

  6. You’re like my sis who likes to collect paper bags, haha! She has all the bags from those shopping centres back in the 90s! And I like to keep my branded buys’ paper bags too!

I don’t collect. I keep for reuse…but since I tend to use one for a long time, I end up having a lot of paper bags. LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  7. Ah STP in my part of the world you’d be a good environmentalist, haha. Here in Toronto if you are in a store (clothing, food or whatever) and want a bag for your purchases you are charged 5 cents. All in the name of reducing the use of plastic bags. Now, almost every large store sells some version of reusable canvas or woven plastic bag designed to last forever. There is even a canvas bag for the wine store subdivided into 6 compartments to carry your libations securely. Me, I’ve bought lots of those bags, but do I keep them in my car when I go shopping?… nope I just buy new plastic bags that then become liners for my organic waste. Oh and that five cents ….where does it go.. I’m not really sure, it’s a modern day mystery.

When I was teaching, prior to my retirement, one of the topics I had to teach was on the environment…so I guess it is only right that I should practise what I preach. My Kiwi sis-in-law in Auckland is just like you. She has all those bags made from recycled material in the house. Every time she went to buy stuff, she would forget to bring them and end up buying a new one at the supermart (Pack n’Save). 5 cents isn’t too bad; perhaps if they charge more, you’d end up bringing your own bags. LOL!!!

    1. In KL, they charge 20 cents per plastic bag on saturdays only..

Sibu, it’s on Mondays. I wish they would do it every day. In the UK, even in the mid-80s, they were already selling their bags every day. Can’t remember now…but I think it was 10 or 20p, except at Harrods – they sold their bags for a pound then, dunno now.

  8. it’s time to throw away that masking- taped bak kwa bag.. lol.. I get irritated when I see such crumpled bag.. I love mine straight and new.. πŸ˜›

Hahahaha!!! Must be environment-friendly! Still can use, no reason to throw away. I think it has become my trademark here cos every time I drop by the bank, post office and other places, everyone seems to recognise me and will greet me and be extra nice to me. They must be saying in their heads, “Here comes that fat old man and his paper bag again…!” Hahahahaha!!!!

  9. I prefer that the shops give paper bags like those you’ve shown to plastic bags. Besides, plastic bags very noisy lor. Hehehe! I also like to collect nice paper bags wan.

I also got wo lai yeh and bee cheng hiang wan. Parkson, Adidas, Parker, Padini, summore got a few small ones from buying perfume, etc but never used them. Haahahahaha!!!

These bags are more expensive mah! At departmental stores, they will not give to you unless you have bought stuff over a certain amount, say RM100. Hah!!! You also – hoarding paper bags!!!

  10. I’m forever yours faithfully……………. seriously this is my first time hearing a person who could carry the same one paper bag for two years, somemore with that paper bag can do travelling from Sibu to KL… chun lah brother…..

Hey!!! You know the song! Journey! One of my all-time favourites. You sing that at karaoke…or you hear those sexy Filipinas singing it at those places where you go boozing? Hehehehehe!!!!! I did not bring the bag with me to KL lah… Aiyor, so kesian! I also have some other nicer bags…for “special occasions”. LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  11. Cool! you can use it for 2 years… for me i guess i throw away lo :P.

Recently, i try to keep them in proper manner – keep environment green and bring this to shopping as well. Kena force baru buat…

Save the Earth! Be a friend of the environment… LOL!!! Ya…they should not give out free plastic bags, make people buy or bring their own! Then you will take better care of your paper bags!

  12. LOL ! I like paper bags. I will keep those which are nice and give MIL those are not so she can sell to the recycle ah pek. hehe

The 1st one was already so crumpled. Please la. Change a new one la. haha…..

You’re the 2nd one to say that. No lah…not torn or spoilt beyond repair, still can use…so use lor! After all, old man liao…not need to bergaya, carry nice nice bags! LOL!!! πŸ˜€

  13. yea! I love collect shopping bag too!!! I got a lot a lot till hub nag on me why i keep so many rubbish!!! hahahhahah and also have not include those recycle bags!!

@ Cleff: now cigarettes not cheap la, my hub also heavy smoker. So, regret to know what is the actual price for cigarettes now? hahahhahahah…

Another one who loves hoarding stuff. What is it about women? My missus will not throw away things, no matter got any more use or not – just stuff here and there, all over the house. I only keep bags as sooner or later, I may need to use…and it helps me stay organised – just throw everything in there so when I want to look for something, it’s in the bag! No need to hunt all over the house, can’t remember where I’ve put it.

    1. But a lot of women I know (esp. those aunties or moms) like to keep Tupperware or any container for that matter. They cannot seem to refrain from buying container whenever they go shopping.

When they are checking out the container, they keep giving themselves reasons to buy it, i.e. “So good hor, beh lao hong, can keep biscuit” or “Airtight, can keep food warm, bring lunch to office, etc.” Then the containers end up sitting in the cupboard because these women say,”Sayang wanna use, use old wan first lar, rosak baru use new wan.” *sweat*

Dunno – women are such strange creatures. But my missus is just the opposite! We have lots of tupperware…and I used to get a lot as presents from students. The other day, I opened a gift pack as the plastic wrapper was old and dusty and getting brittle. So I stacked them up with the rest – at the back…and the next thing I knew, my missus was using them already. I said – there are still all those that we have been using, all as good as new…why use these brand new ones? And she just laughed… SIGH!!! I would not even attempt to try and understand…women!!! 😦

    2. =S I dun wanna know how much is cigs now, Annie… else, each time he buys one packet, I will feel like demanding him to buy me a book or sth of the same price. LOL…

@Cikgu… I dun like to keep things…my husband does that, though. As for me… I see things accumulate… I sure wanna buang wan! Kenot tahan, keep osos dono for wud!

Your hubby keeps…or he simply throws things everywhere in the house expecting other people to pick up and clean after him…and throw them away. Many men are like that… Some cannot even pick up their briefs after taking them off – can still see the two leg holes that they had stepped out from! Thank goodness I’m not like that!

  14. Oh my, you know what? I KEEP paper bags! Lots of them at home! Saucer kept grumbling why do I keep this ‘junk’ at home but they’re simply so nice. I think I have a fetish πŸ˜›

Hahahahaha!!! For better or for worse, he’ll just have to learn to live with it. At least, I get to use the bags – not just keep them for the sake of keeping. Nice also when want to give presents – put in a presentable paper bag instead of one of those cheap plastic bags – no class at all! LOL!! πŸ˜€

  15. aiyo..so teruk – try leaving that bag somewhere at the corner at KLIA..see what is the response ..haha.

That is one good reason to use it! You can leave it anywhere…nobody will want to take it! Very safe! Hahahahaha!!!

  16. wOW..u take effort to tape it…salute u la…next time i keep Kiew Brother paper bag for u,ok.

    but no bakwa….i maken edy..hehehhe

Aiyor…not enough friend lor like that!!! Chinese got pantang yunno! If give bag, container, cooking pot…cannot give empty one. Must have something inside. So want to give me Kiew Brothers bag, inside…if not 1kg, 500gm also ok! Muahahahahaha!!!! πŸ˜€

    1. Wahaha..ok i really dont know about this pantang thingy..

      Ok..ok..one piece then….wahahahha..

LOL!!! Clever you! Now they have individual packs – one or two slices only.

  17. hehe.. woh lai yea… delicious bak kua from petaling street…

i use paper bags only for gifts πŸ™‚ those small cute and nice ones..

I don’t go to Petaling as now they have an outlet at Jalan Alur. There’s one at Pavilion too but that one’s more expensive. I hear there’s one at Imbi too…but I’ve never been to that one.

  18. u seem like a gal…haha

i thot sibu version of bak poh r wo yeh lai!!

Old man mah…more convenient to carry a paper bag to put everything. I know you young people will always carry a back pack, with canggih handphone in one hand – the earphone stuck in your ear, listen to MP3…and isn’t it fashionable these days for guys to carry one of those leather handbags?

  19. are you collecting paperbags?!! Aiyoh, if spoilt already then throw it la. why do you wanna tape them up? I actuallt collect paperbags and I have tonnes of them, it’s crazy!

Friends of the environment mah! Hahahahaha!!! Wah! Looks like there are so many around – hoarding paper bags!!!

  20. So, you are on of the “green” guy… I reckon this earth needs more of your kinds!lol! Btw… brother, where are the foods?

No food this week… Next post also, no food! 😦
