CK aka Superman asked me in his comment on a previous post whether I could make cookies and I told him no. Unfortunately, that is the truth and I still cannot. However, that did not stop my from trying.
I had a bit of the pastry left from making the pies the other day and I did not want to throw it away as it would be just a waste. So I divided it into two portions and added brown sugar and Milo to one…and oats and castor sugar to the other. Then, I rolled them and using a cookie cutter, I cut the pastry and laid them out on a greased baking tray…
After that, I put them into the oven to bake. The end result did not look very encouraging…
…but they tasted nice. I like the ones with oats, but my daughter prefers the Milo ones.
They definitely do not look good enough to be served to guests, that’s for sure. Maybe if I brush the top of the oats cookies with egg, they may end up with a nicer golden colour.
Anyway, this is just the beginning, not the end. Rest assured that I will be back at it soon and hopefully, I will succeed in making cookies that not only taste nice but look presentable as well. Meanwhile, I’ll just go and sit in a corner and sulk… @#$%+&*!!!! LOL!!!
FAILED… big time. Shepherd’s pie become err… chargrilled pie. LOL… but still… edible enuff for my sharks to gobble down. They must be really, really hungry! Come, I teman you sulk at a corner… I FAILED… ahahaha… the pie look like… poop! *SULK*
Hahahahahaha!!! Any photo? Later I hop over to your blog to look see! Actually, shepherd pie – all cooked ingredients, no need to bake for too long…just for a while for a light crust on top – not like using pastries. Don’t give up! Keep trying! π
No photo lah… lol…it’s burn all right… top there keras keras summore… I tak sempat snap picture, my son oredi eat them! LOL…
Well, your son don’t complain…ok lah! Burnt, also can eat! Hahahahahaha!!!!
LOL… he din complain… probably was starving lah, so everything he saw, just gobble down.
Probably used to it liao! Immuned already….so makes no difference to him! Ouch! Hahahahaha!!!!
Bad, Cikgu! bad bad!
Hahahahaha!!! Now only you know…!!! π
Eh… forget wanna ask pulak…. I bought some chicken wings yesterday… cuz I saw your girl’s chicken wings looks so nice. I marinade it oredi, and I wonder how much is the temperature and how long did Melissa cook the chicken wings in the oven? Tell me… it’s for dinner tonite! LOL… first time trying out baked chicken wings leh….I usually fry them only.
Hmmm… I think I’m reading your blog and look forward for it more than the newspaper… LMAO…
Maybe you should just fry…or grill on a non-stick pan. At least you get to see them…and hopefully, they will not get burnt. Hahahahahahaha!!!! We cook old school style – no timing one, just switch on the light in the oven and peep in…and if it looks nicely done, then take out. Usually when can smell already…that’s the time to watch out! Aiyor…no current news updates in my blog! Cannot keep up with what’s going on in the real world one!
Sigh… usually horr… iff fry chicken that’s already marinade…it’s like can explode. I kena the oil pretty often becoz of this, so tot of trying baking em in oven, Spare me the hot oil. LOL…
What explode? What do you use to marinade? Turn down the heat lah… Cook on slow heat then. Hahahahaha!!!!
Use soya sauce, oyster sauce, salt, pepper and sugar… can explode lah! Eeee… takut…. but the result is usually nice lerr… my husband and son likes the taste…
Just try turning down the heat and see…
LOL! Obviously or maybe baking is just not your forte! So better stick to cooking and don’t give up your day job!
You’re talking to Cleffairy, I guess? Poor girl! Sudah jatuh, ditimpa tangga! Adding insult to injury! Hahahahahaha!!!! Or were you talking to me? Wait…just wait! Will try again…and I’ll get it perfectly done this time!
LOL… must be talking to me lah… ahahah… dun worry lah… I’m like a witch liddat…very determine to poison ppl wan. LOL…and like Cikgu oso… I dun give up easily. π Must try again! Wakakakaka!
I must try very soon…to redeem my good name! Muahahahaha!!!!
Me too… hopefully my sharks wun get poisoned! π
I certainly hope so too! Hahahahahaha!!!
this is super! i might consider making it this weekend π
thanks for sharing!
Ya…you’re not the only one. Somebody made char siew sio pao yesterday after seeing my posts…and I hear at least two others – going to make pies. Very contagious hor? π
arghh sorry…my last comment was for the pie..but the biscuit looks yums too!…lol
start practising for cny huh>
Yup. They taste ok… After all, they have all the ingredients. Nope…just making for fun, not for CNY. Will be stuck in KL after sending my daughter off at KLIA on 11th – so not celebrating CNY this year.
good on you Cikgu… keep learning………………
Yalor! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? π Hahahahaha!!!
hahahhahahhahaha…*oooppsss…sorry for laughing so loud*
Wow wow wow wow…baking baking baking..so many baking. Your cookies look so cute and with your own version (milo+brown sugar). Before i read, i look at the picture i thought that look like “mince meat” to me. π
Don’t give up, practise make perfect, just like how i bake cupcakes. hahahah But..i don’t know how to make cookies nor sherperd pies, that is TOO CONFUSING for me.
So this year you can have your own chinese new year cookies?
Ya…I also thought they look like minced meat in the photo. There, you can’t make cookies either! But shepherd pie – no excuse whatsoever! The easiest thing in the world to make!!! Dunno what recipe you look at – do it my way! Fast and simple – otherwise, lazy people like me sure wouldn’t bother to make one!
Like I told pink cotton, I wouldn’t be celebrating CNY this year – stuck in KL after sending my daughter off at KLIA – can’t come home, all flights full!…Cheap airline, maybe got…but mighty expensive. So no need lah! After all, daughter also not at home. SIGH!!!
LOL… u so bad lah… but now that you mentioned… it does look like minch meat… or tuna!
It does! I also had the impression when I saw the pic…and I even told my daughter that!
i think i’ll prefer the one with milo! =)
Young people – all the same – would very much prefer chocolate! π
haha….it’s a good start. π first step is always important. all the best STP! hope to taste ur cookies one day! hehee..
Yes, a journey of a thousand li begins with the first step…. You? You wanna taste? Said you would come to Sibu, didn’t show up. Now holidays are almost over, you’ll have to go back to that jungle place again…. Muahahahaha!!!!
don’t give up.. it’s good enough for a beginner.. π
Yes, it is never best…the first time! Oops! Hahahahaha!!!!
At first I thought you want to bake heart-shaped minced meat…until I read the post. Heheh! Aiya, never mind lah, so long as they taste nice π
No lah! At least must look presentable lah! But come to think of it, that “kayu buruk” actually looks quite “buruk” and yet it’s a favourite of many! LOL!!!
Hah? Like that also can? I can imagine the situation in your house where NOTHING goes to waste. You always can think of something to do with your left overs.. π
Hard times are here, economic downturn…so don’t waste lor! Hahahaha!!! As they say, it’s a sin to waste! π
im knew ur daughter wil like milo coz oldman like me wil only love oat… π
btw u goin kl nex mth not tmr rite as i think i mistaken it as tmr since im goin tmr… :O
CNY is CNY, tomorrow is tomorrow – not same story. I already got your number from your kai ma! Already sms you…so now you have my number!
Hmmm, u should make the whole thing flat, before cutting it.
U should consider selling ur bakings online, u never know if it might be a big hit π
You bake cookies? Nope…no intention to go into this kind of business! Just for fun…and to eat!!!
As long as they taste GOOD. I love baking cookies though. Takes time to get it to be good too, just need more experiments and patience which YOU GOT!
GOOD LUCK!
hugs
shakira
Yup, thanks for the encouragement. That’s how I cook – never follow recipes. Trial and error…and see how things work out. Not good, throw away…good, then hopefully I can remember what I did so I can do the same next time. Hahahahahahaha!!! Will definitely try again…and again…till I get it right. Teachers are like that! Make the students do it again and again till they get it right. True or not? π
Yeah! They surely didn’t look great. But at least they tasted good right? :p
With butter, Milo, oats….how can they not taste great?
I think horr… the milo ones looks nicer… and should taste better than the oat wan! π
I like oats – that’s why I prefer the oats ones.
Pie pastry and cookies one not the same. That is why you failed!
Ah well…no harm trying. But some biscuits also use the rubbing method, right? I think I saw my missus doing that! Or was she making something else? LOL!!!
Good try STP. I also used pie pastry leftovers to bake cookies for my little toddler. Result like yours also, mine worse just round shape. ha ha ha!
See! We MEN – very creative, very innovative one! Anything goes! The best part was they were edible…and they actually tasted nice!!! LOL!!!
Oooops..you better check with Nette how she make her cookies..she makes great cookies.
Hmmm….maybe she can make some and send them over! LOL!!! Incidentally, I was watching the Christmas cooking shows on AFC…and I noticed that when the men said it was simple, it really was simple…but when the women said it was simple, it wasn’t…like baking tomatoes for 8 hours in the oven and doing a whole lot of other things for the salad, and she called it simple!!! Good grief! Hahahahaha!!!
hey, Cikgu…. that is wrong… u know why? When I said simple… it’s really gonna be very simple! yunno why? Becoz i dun bother make complicated things! Hopeless in dat. You see… ur Shepherd’s pie recipe oso i can’t follow… i should just stick with cooking maggie! LMAO!
No lah! I also never follow recipe – sure not successful! Everything agak-agak, trial and error. Just follow instincts!!! I don’t post on my disasters – just throw away quietly. Hehehehehehe!!!!
make cookies easy-peasy lah. Cakes are more difficult.
Yup…so I’ve heard. Many dos and don’ts….nanti tak jadi! I wouldn’t wanna try…
The cookies look ok to me. I think the taste is more important than the look of it. The most important thing is that I believe that you put your hard work and ‘heart’ to bake it. That’s why it tasted nice. Hehe. I think with a few more practices, I can send my containers over for a fill up already. LOL!
Clever you sweet-talker!!! Well, if I should succeed, I’ll let you know…and ask you to collect! π
Are those the attempts for making new chinese new year cookies?!! where are my samples? haha
You wouldn’t wanna eat those. Wait till I’ve succeeded! Can make you some. LOL!!!
