Well, that is what life is all about, isn’t it? One long, hard and seemingly-endless climb. I bet everyone will agree that this past year has not been great with the H1N1 pandemic, the worsening economic downturn and the petrol price hike, the natural disasters such as the Padang earthquake, devastating typhoons and floods in the Philippines and in Taiwan, for instance…
Whatever it is, we’ve survived through all that and another year is here…and whatever lies ahead, we will keep climbing and doing the best we can.
This is the New Year No. 1 single in the UK, X Factor 2009 winner, Joe McElderry, with his rendition of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb”. The lyrics of this song reflects my sentiments exactly as we brace ourselves to face another year ahead…
I can almost see it
That dream I’m dreaming of
There’s a voice inside my head saying
“You’ll never reach it”
Every step I’m taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking
And I, I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high
So it’s gonna be another mountain
I’m always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb
The struggles I’m facing
The chances I’m taking
Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I’m not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I’m gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going
And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on
‘Cause there’s always gonna be another mountain
Always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose
Ain’t about how fast I get there
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb, yeah yeah!
Keep the faith, keep your faith.
And yes indeed, keep the faith, keep our faith…in ourselves and in God, and we’ll make it through whatever lies ahead…somehow. My daughter will be leaving for New Zealand next month to continue her studies – I will be praying for her and wishing her well in her climb…and let us pray for ourselves too in our daily endeavours and undertakings, our climb.
Wishing everybody a Happy New Year and may 2010 be a good one for one and all.
