Daniel…

Happy Birthday, son…

Daniel

Well, it’s Daniel’s birthday today, so if you’re his friend, you can post your birthday greeting here or in his blog or on Facebook, if you’re connected as one of his friends there.

When I was browsing through the August (Merdeka) issue of GOING PLACES, the MAS inflight magazine, while en route from Sibu to Penang, I saw the photo of this dummy in it…

STP & Steven

…the one on the left, I mean…not the one on the right! LOL!!! And if I may quote from the special feature in the magazine, “The quintessential Malaysian success story, Steven’s Corner had typically humble beginnings but has since grown into a multiple restaurant chain.”

Upon arrival in KL and after checking it at the hotel in Bukit Bintang, I noticed that they had opened another outlet just around the corner from the hotel, Steven’s Tea Garden – probably the latest of the lot…

…so when Daniel contacted me and suggested going for dinner, I proposed going there to try out this place. I had the grilled lamb with cheese…

which wasn’t too bad…while Daniel had the fish and chips. However, somehow the photo I took seems to have got lost in transition…so if you’re interested, you can always hop to Daniel’s blog to see the nicer photographs taken using his over RM1K Canon camera.

After dinner, he wanted to go to Low Yat, but the idea of walking all the way did not appeal to me. So he went alone while I went back to my nice and cold hotel room. He came back not too long later with this box…

…of donuts…

Big Apple donuts 2

He ate two…and no prize for guessing who walloped the rest! LOL!!! I thought they were all so-so…and the only one that I thought was somewhat better was the one with cheese. Still, I did not think it was worth over RM2.00 each. I could easily go and buy the 10 for RM1.00 donuts from the kampung stall here and coat them with condensed milk and add a sprinkling of grated cheddar cheese…and I would end up having more or less the same thing at a much lower price. Come to think of it, if I wanted to spend that kind of money, I would much sooner go and buy those to-kill-for durian pancakes that I featured in my post the other day.

Ah well! Since I was not the one paying, I’m not complaining, no siree!!! Hehehehehehe!!! As a matter of fact, it was some kind of pre-birthday celebration…as I knew his birthday was coming up so when I was in Penang, I bought him a little present from the hotel’s convenience store…

Four wise monkeys

– the three wise monkeys: See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil PLUS a fourth one – play no evil. Can you tell which monkey that would be?

Well, Happy Birthday once again, Daniel and here’s wishing you blue skies and everything nice in the year ahead. Cheers!!!

P.S.:
And a Happy Birthday to you too today, Victor… May all your wishes come true!
