Knock on wood…

I wonder what you call it. An optical illusion perhaps? Have there been times when you read something wrongly and each time you saw it after that, you would only see what you thought you saw?

I do not know when I started seeing it as “menanti” (waiting), but all this while, that was what I thought the name was as you can see in my previous posts here and here. The restaurant first began at its outlet at Hardin Walk here and later, it started a smaller branch in the block of shophouses behind the Sugar Bun at the Sibu Gateway…and more recently, it has opened another in the vicinity of the Sibu Bus Terminal.

Yes, I’m talking about Sri Meranti…and the name is actually “meranti” and not Sri Menanti. Meranti, if I’m not mistaken, is a type of wood. My missus and I had been there before and at one time, we had their nasi lemak and mee mamak. Well, we went back there again and this time I had the char kway teow (fried flat rice noodles)…

The waitress asked me if I wanted it with the giant udang galah (freshwater prawns) but that would cost RM18.00 a plate. Good grief! RM18.00? No, thank you!!!

My missus had their mee goreng basah (fried noodles with gravy)…

Both were pretty nice…and I said, nice! Not great, not sensational…just nice. They’re worth having if you’re looking for something to eat and you happen to be in the vicinity but I would not go out of my way just for that as I can have the same elsewhere that may be just as nice or even nicer.

I think I have mentioned in one of my earlier posts that the place is very clean and pleasant to the eye, much more presentable than your regular coffee shop…and they must be making money as they have taken over the boutique next door and renovated the place, turning it into an air-conditioned section that sells chicken rice. I also heard the the Isabella karaoke pub at the other end of this same block of shophouses actually belongs to them too.

Well, the two dishes plus drinks came up to RM8.60 only, so as you can see, it is not at all expensive. Perhaps you would like to give it a try?
