YMCA…

Don’t worry! I’m not about to go and exercise at the YMCA just yet…so you do not need to prepare for the possibility of a major earthquake! LOL!!! It’s just that the other night, Kpenyu’s friend invited him out to dinner and my missus and I tagged along – who cares whether the friend invited me or not? When it comes to makan (eat), the skin of my face is really thick one! Hahahahaha!!!!

So off we went to the designated venue – the Y.M.C.A. in Sibu. I did not even know they have a Chinese restaurant there but they do! The food was really very nice, like this plate of prawns, for instance…

…and the curry fish head was pretty well done too…

…and they even had Poomba (wild boar meat)…

Even though they did not cook it the way we would normally do, theirs was very nice too unlike many places where they drown the unique taste of the meat with a whole lot of ginger, lemon grass and what not. Then there was the soup and a plate of fried ladies’ fingers…

I did not have any of the veg though…as it was blocked by the huge plate of curry fish head and you know me lah! So shy one! Nei…ah! Nei…ah!!! Hahahahahaha!!!

Don’t ask me how much that cost as I didn’t pay – Kpenyu’s friend’s treat! But since I like the food very much, I think I’ll go and dine there again one of these days…and I’ll let you know whether it is cheap or expensive. But that will be in another post, of course…

And two nights ago, a former student, now working in NZ, was in town, so we went out for dinner with an ex-classmate of his. We almost didn’t make it as it poured cats and dogs that night and my car porch was submerged…but after a while, the rain stopped and the water subsided. We wanted to go to the Nice House Restaurant but it was closed on Tuesdays, so we headed to Mum’s instead.

So what did we have? There was this plate of braised pork leg with cangkuk manis

…and this tofu dish…

a small plate of fried midin (jungle fern) with belacan and Foochow fried noodles…

The food was all right but with rice and drinks for three, that came up to RM50.00 which I thought was pretty steep as we did not really have a lot and there wasn’t any fish or prawns which usually would be quite expensive.

Luckily, we met the owner of Chopsticks (formerly known as Johore Chicken Rice) and the generous guy picked up the tab! Gee! Talk about having a windfall! Perhaps one of these days, I should go and buy a number or two… LOL!!!
