Unbreakable…

Well, they’re definitely NOT unbreakable! As a matter of fact, they’re almost paper thin and very fragile. I’m talking about this Indian delicacy – pappadums!

I love pappadums…and so does my daughter. Everytime we go for nasi bryani at Balkis here, they will give us ONE piece each to go with it…and at one time, when I went for the banana leaf lunch at Nanas Road in Kuching, I could not resist asking for an extra one and they were kind enough to oblige.

However, once we went to this nasi kandar shop in Sungai Petani, Kedah for lunch and I noticed that they had pappadums in tightly-sealed airtight plastic bags – one per bag and I wanted some. When they told me that they were selling them at RM1.00 per piece, I almost fainted! But since I could not resist, I bought two – one for me and one for my daughter. Grrr….!!! Daylight robbery! Real cut-throats!!!

I did manage, however, to buy a couple of 100-gram packets from Tesco there before I came home…

…and I only managed to fry them the other day…

Believe it or not, with just one packet, I could get a tupperware full…

…and we feasted on them, eating the pappadums with the nyonya chicken curry that my missus had cooked…

My daughter really enjoyed it so very  much that she had no less than six pieces in just one sitting. In her own words, she said, “The pappadums taste really great with curry!” Well, I had mixed feelings over it all – I was happy just to see her enjoying the food to her heart’s content but I was sad to think that in a few days, she would be going back to that @#$%&*#@ place where they sell pappadums at RM1.00 a piece, until her next holiday around the end of May. Sigh!!!
