Footprints in the sand…

I am sure many of you are familiar with this story…

One night, a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD.

Footprints in the sand 1

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life, there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it: “LORD, You said that once I decided to follow You, You’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why when I needed You most, You would leave me.”

Footprints in the sand 2

The LORD replied: “My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

…or at least I am! Well, I was browsing through youtube the other day and came across this song by Leona Lewis, the 2006 X-Factor winner in the UK, and I really love it! The lyrics go like this…

You walked with me
Footprints in the sand
And helped me understand
Where I’m going
You walked with me
When I was all alone
With so much I know
Along the way
Then I heard You say

I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is filled
With sorrow and despair
I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find My footprints in the sand

I see my life
Flash across the sky
So many times
Have I been so afraid
And just when I have thought
I’ve lost my way
You give me strength to carry on
That’s when I heard You say

I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is filled
With sorrow and despair
I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find My footprints in the sand

When I’m weary
Well, I know You’ll be there
And I can feel You when You say

I promise you
I’m always there
When your heart is full
Of sadness and despair
I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find My footprints in the sand

Do click on the link and give it a listen! I even read somewhere that Simon Cowell had a hand in penning the song/lyrics. Ah well! It doesn’t make me like the song any less. LOL!!!

Have a Holy and Blessed Sunday, everybody!

  1. I like Leona, got this album, very good songs in there.

I like especially the part towards the ending with all the variations and modifications – the first part was a bit so-so… On the whole, beautiful and meaningful!

  2. Leona’s a young and refreshing singer and I think she’ll go far in this biz. I have her album with this song in it and I have to agree with Stella that the songs in there are good.

    Enjoy your Sunday…

I thought Bleeding Love was ok…but I love Better this time, and this one is really nice! I would think last year’s winner Alexandra Burke’s a much better singer though. Love her rendition of Hallelujah!!!

    You too, enjoy your Sunday!

  3. she’s one of those new breeds from the UK since the “Spice girls” era. not much quality from the UK before Leona came to the frame. she can rock US, she’s big!

Spice Girls? Eyew…never liked them!!! Who do I like from the UK? Elton John? Hehehehehe!!! Annie Lennox (Eurhythmics)…Sweet dreams are made of this….!!! Nice!

  4. thats an amazingly touching and inspiring piece of reading…really gave me hope 🙂
and not to mention one of ur greatest post ever..hehe..oh btw, if ure really into those songs with deep and meaningful lyrics, checkout canada’s very own non-mainstream rapper, K’naan on youtube. dont worry, nothing blingish or slutty chicks unlike so many black rnb artistes nwadys.

OK…will do that. Thanks for the compliment! Want me to treat u kampua, izzit? Sorry, have to wait till you come back! Hehehehehehe!!! Have a nice Sunday – it’s Sunday morning there, and already night here!

  5. I love this a lot… 🙂
p/s: I do have the album but since I have ber’giga-gigabytes’ worth of songs in my HD, i guess i’ve never listened to this song. Now that I did, I totally love it!
p/p/s: I posted the video and lyrics on my blog also.

Hah! That’s the problem when you bite off more than you can chew! Either you miss the finer bits or fail to appreciate them! Hahahahaha!!! First time I heard it too and I loved it instantly!!! Gee! We’ve got such good taste hor! LOL!!!

  6. Oh, I love this song! Very nice melody and lyrics and Leona sang it beautifully!! One of my top 10 inspiring ballads! Now after your story, I can understand the lyrics better! Haha!

Hahaha!!! At least we agree over one thing – unlike in the case of Big Boobs aka Malaya Curry! ROTFLMAO! You’re not a Christian then? Otherwise you would have seen the poem sold as bookmarks, stickers, cards, posters etc…in Christian article shops or gift shops.

  7. Leona Lewis rocks! =)

Hmmm…looks like Leona is certainly popular. Have you heard Alexandra Burke’s Hallelujah? She’s really good too?

  8. i’ve not heard this story before but it’s a good one to share. thanks!

You haven’t? Like I said in my reply to foongpc’s comment, you can see it in Christian article shops or gift shops…. I think it’s as popular as “Desiderata”. You can see all kinds of gifts with these poems…

  9. that’s my favourite Bible story.

    what?? Simon Cowell has emotions?

Hmmm…inspiring! That Cow-ell!! Googled…and saw his name among a list of others. Maybe he served them water! Hahahahaha!!!!

  10. Recall that one of A Idols did that song during audition this season. Next time I see extra footprints…I’ll not run sweat & pray… I’ll walk with them???

Didn’t watch the auditions. Can’t stand those asses that love to hear themselves bray! LOL!!!

  11. Why hate Simon Cowell? 😛

Well had a nice Sunday, and Monday is even better thanks to your link 😀

No, I don’t hate him actually. I always pass my comments during the singing and more often than not, he will say the same thing! He’s anytime better than…Paula Abdul! LOL!!! You like the link? I try to include a link to some relevant/interesting video clip in my post! Gee! Looks like I’ve nothing else better to do hor? Hahahahaha!

  12. Last time, Mariah sang a lot of such ballads and she’s famous for that. Not anymore as she goes into hip hop nowadays.

I am half Christian, half Buddhist. In other words, I believe in Jesus Christ and I believe in reincarnation. So am I considered a new age Christian? LOL!

Ya, I didn’t mind some of her earlier songs…but not her more current ones. Gosh…what’s that? The best of both worlds? Hahahahaha!!!
