Let there be light…

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

  1. Styx! Love them!…Was rather sad at the time cos the church said their songs were satanic. Didn’t stop me from listening! This one’s one of my faves…and “Babe” too…and Dennis de Young’s solo effort, “Desert Moon”!

  2. My heart missed a few beats when I saw the candle..*****you. And missed somemore when I saw the other photo….ha ha ha…The only light I see today is the one at the end of the tunnel on this 16th Sept Happy Malaysia Day….actually I saw the whole sunrise this morning

Chesh! You think I would not have called you???…What other photo? Only one leh? You mean my commentor from North Carolina? LOL!!!…You don’t get the subtlety of the post? And on today, of all days!

  3. Am still waiting for the light. Mana ada…

Doesn’t look like it’s going to be long now. After all, they have hammered the last nail into their own coffin!

  4. what satanic song? i was referring to the first comment.. the church is horrible when it comes to passing judgement

I will also not make any comment about the church! But the immensely-popular “Hotel California” was said to be satanic too… I’m not that crazy over it though!

  5. Life can either end well or the other way… But anyway, I hope the journey ahead of us will be a bright one!

Yes, all we can do is hope…and pray for the best!

  6. I see this is your non-political post about the happenings of recent political times…..

Put very subtly…it may even slip by unnoticed! Like the message in the poem “Dance” in my National Day post, it’s exactly what has transpired these last few weeks…..

  7. My notebook working overtime….until the adaptor also went kaput, and had to rush out in the pouring rain to get a new one…my battery indicator said 20 mins remaining! LOL! Using new adaptor now, and Rm130 poorer…sigh!

Heavy duty…with all the downloading and what not! RM130 is cheap considering the money you’ve saved from your “activities”! LOL!!!

  8. Looks like nothing’s gonna happen today. No need to check so hard on the net lah gerrie!

His credibility is at stake…so if nothing comes out of this, he’s history!!!

  9. I wonder how much darkness we are now in. When I read that ISA could be used to protect someone, I know that our intelligence was ridiculed. I wish we would see more light as we celebrate this day. Justice should always be blind and never should have its blindfold removed.

Ah! At last, you’re back!…Takes something literary to lure you, eh? The setting of the novel is centred around the French Revolution, right? Like Les Miserables!!!…Hence, my choice of quotation for the day!

  10. Aren’t we just at this kind of level?

We have too many superlatives at the moment – the biggest this, the longest that….

We need a time of credibility, a time of common sense,a time of decency towards each other….

Ah! Another literary person! That’s why I chose this Dickens’ quotation – so relevant to our present situation. Brief, yet so precise! That’s Literature for you! Too bad the subject is now on life support!!!

  11. Yes, an apt choice if I may add. And did you know it actually mirrors Ecclesiastes 3: 2-8?

Ummm…I’m not into biblical stuff that much! Blush! Blush!…But I would think of the Tower of Babel – the superlative and the consequence!

  12. I have out of the literature scene for a while. On life support? How sad.

Literature is supposed to be a part of our life. It brings different generations together. It brings diverse groups together. It can change the world for the better…and of course you know it too and so do the others.

Malaysians should be like water – soft but strong to cut the hardest of the rocks. But are we Malaysian turning into something else only waiting for the PM, the YBs to declare what is good for us?

Heard that some people won’t even do the banal of the things without official permission.

SAD. Higgins mentioned A time for everything…..he is good in Biblical references…hehehe

And all that crap about teaching creative and critical thinking! No wonder schools are churning out robots! Try teaching Literature…and it will become a shallow comprehenion lesson!…As for Higgins, many are called…but few are chosen??? Hehehehehe…
