It certainly takes a lot of faith and endurance to be able to fast and abstain (and in my case, even for just one day!) the way Muslims do in the month of Ramadhan. I always look forward to this particular month as there will be a bazaar with all the stalls selling all kinds of delicacies. I spotted one in Kota Kinabalu in the vicinity of the hotel where I was staying…and according to Melbie or Man-D, this was one of the bigger ones in the city…
It was pretty crowded like the one in Sibu but the difference is the customers in Sibu are mostly Chinese. I guess that is because of the small Malay population in this Foochow-dominated town. This one was taken somewhere in the middle part of the bazaar…
Of course there has got to be a stall selling all the curries, the bubur pedas and other lemaks (things cooked in santan/coconut milk)…
The girl in the middle was using a black plastic bag tied to a stick and swinging it all around to keep away the flies. This one sells all the grilled or barbecued stuff like chicken wings, fish and so on…
…and at this one, you can get your roti canai or murtabak…
There were lots and lots of stalls at this Ramadhan bazaar which stretched all the way down the road from one end of Asia City to the other. Too bad I could not buy anything to sample as I was saving all available space for my dinner date with Melbie and Man-D later that same evening.
On the way back to the hotel, I saw this…
Hey! I’m showing you the dates lah! The small ones in the boxes! LOL!!! Muslims eat these during the fasting month and from what I understand, the dates help sustain them better and they will not feel hungry so quickly. Anyway, whatever it is, to all my Muslim relatives – Anissa and family, Sallahuddin…(LOL!!!) and friends – Faizal, Zul, Hiromi… and readers, selamat berpuasa and God’s blessings be upon you all throughout this Holy month.
