What’s new, pussycat?…

When they contacted me, I told the seminar organisers that I did not want to fly straight back to Sibu upon returning from Lundu…and luckily, I did that. I wonder what the situation was like that night with the blackout as the flight would have been at 9.00 p.m. Well, they were gracious enough to grant my request and kindly made arrangements for me to stay at a brand new hotel – The Dormani Hotel in Kuching…

Dormani Hotel 1

It has just opened its doors for business last month…

Dormani 2

As you can see, it is not one of those big and grand hotels but I was impressed in more ways than one. When you enter, they will invite you to take a seat with one of the receptionists and a welcome drink will be served…

Reception

They were very informal and friendly and polite…(but I know one of them from Harbour View and even the general manager who has moved here from there too!) and very soon, I was on my way to my room. The infamous Sarawak blackout was not a problem as they had their own generator. Believe it or not, the receptionist himself escorted me to my room and I took an instant liking to the card key for the door…

Other hotels still use the conventional key (Good Lord!) or the type where you have to push the card into a slot and pull it out (not too fast and not too slow) and when the light turns green, you must open the door quickly! In this hotel, you just swipe your card on the sensor plate just above the handle and when the green light comes on, you can open the door. I think the door lock is linked to an internal alarm system as well…but I will not go into the details regarding that! LOL!!! And this is the Superior Queen…

…with its comfortable queen-size double bed and an abundance of nice, soft pillows…and a flat-screen LCD TV…

…and another thing that I liked was the digital control panel for the airconditioning. Most hotels would have the knob which, no matter which direction you turn (…if you can!!!), would not have any effect on the room temperature at all!

This is a section of the bathroom/toilet and the complimentary toiletries and stuff…

I’m sure you don’t want to see a photo of the toilet bowl, would you? (unless it’s one of Huai Bin sitting on it…naked! LOL!!!) Then of course, there’s the usual tea and coffee making facilities…

One minus point, however, is that the room is very small but that is quite typical of the newer hotels these days unlike those in the past. This is the view from the hotel entrance…

Near the old Kuching mosque

Don’t worry about the morning azan call from the old state mosque. I did not hear a thing. I guess if the neighbouring occupants couldn’t hear my thunderous snoring, that would mean that the rooms are quite sound-proof!

I received an sms from Bongkersz at around 11.00 p.m. asking where the hotel was and telling me that he would like to drop by and see me. Gee! Imagine a tall and handsome young guy visiting this old, big, fat and ugly teacher in his room at that ungodly hour of the night! Hahahahaha!!! I had to politely tell him not to go through all that trouble as I had my good reputation to protect (The hotel staff know me!!!) and my chastity to safeguard! ROTFLMAO!!!
