Dust in the wind (1)…

I used to be house proud and I enjoyed keeping it spick and span. On weekends especially, you would find me with the radio or cd player on, playing my favourite songs and I would clean the house from top to bottom, putting away everything in its own place and arranging it all nicely.

I loved having guests over, maybe for a steamboat dinner…

…or a popiah party…

…or some home-cooked Sarawak laksa

…but eventually, I got tired of it. “If you do not make such a mess, then there would not be very much to clean up,” I would grumble over and over again but all my nagging fell on deaf ears. So in the end, I just gave up…and learned to live with it, or sort of! Now my house is more often than not, a horrible mess and I do not dare to ask people to come around anymore…

Well, Kpenyu sent me this via email; I wonder what you all think of it…

Remember, a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it and a house becomes a home when you can write ‘I love you’ on the furniture.

I used to spend at least 8 hours every weekend making sure things were just perfect – ‘in case someone came over’. Finally I realized one day that no-one ever came over; they were all out living life and having fun!
NOW, when people visit, I don’t have to explain the ‘condition’ of my home. They are more interested in hearing about the things I’ve been doing while I was away living life and having fun.

If you haven’t figured this out yet, please heed this advice.

Life is short…Enjoy it!

Dust if you must,

but wouldn’t it be better to paint a picture or write a letter,
bake cookies or a cake and lick the spoon or plant a seed?
Ponder the difference between want and need!

Dust if you must,

but there’s not much time . . . .with gin to drink, rivers to swim and mountains to climb, music to hear and books to read, friends to cherish and a life to lead.

Dust if you must,

but the world’s out there with the sun in your eyes,
the wind in your hair, a shower of rain…This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must,

but bear in mind, old age will come and it’s not kind…and when you go – and go you must – you, yourself will make more dust!

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, life is short, so party we must!

Personally, I do not in any way prescribe by that kind of thinking. Even after all this time, I still long for a nice, neat and clean house, one that I will not feel bad about inviting friends over to…and share some delightful evenings together over a delicious meal that I would cook myself. Some things never change!…Sigh!!!

  1. i guess here nobody drops in unexpectedly, so you still have time to pick up whenever guest arrives. however, if you have someone like me, i’ll drop in near meal time to have a free meal.

Says who! Some do!!!…I love having people drop by round meal time! Then can invite them to join and I can show off my culinary skills! They’re too polite to say not nice anyway…so I can syiok sendiri! Hahahahahaha!!!!

  2. Talked with Sophia recently and discovered we shar the same secret re house work…. Dont worry our mums dont know!

Can’t be worse than me! Sometimes don’t clean for months!!! Told my missus the dust as thick as the powder on her face liao!!!…Too bad she maid-phobic!!! How I wish I could have one!!!!

  3. ah-chew!! (excuse me, i’m allergic to dust..)
    haha!

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, life is short, so party we must! -totally agreed!

Then, dust you must!!!….That reminds me of the Parable of the Rich Fool! Hahahahahahaha!!!!

  4. I like my house to be spick and span as well. Thus when my domestic help went back for holidays, I always found myself in the middle of some chore, and it felt never-ending. I do know however if I am to be without domestic help, the one thing I would get is a dishwasher! No wonder so many folks opted (maybe less so now) to eat out!

Haiz!!! If only I could have a maid!!!…U tink a mistress will do the chores??? Wink! Wink!! Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!

  5. Seriously thought you never open your mail..almost wanna give up leh…. for me..messy can be cosy..so long as no food empty plates cups etc etc ..ok with me.. no ordour accepted though…Only James Bond live twice..so enjoy..remember we came naked and go away naked..and never try to determine how the next generation should live or have… p/s. you inherite it from your dad boss..I remember he made me and all children washed our feet before we are allowed us in…can understand him now..he he but it was fun for us to make him mad then..lean on his car touch the wall etc LOL….

I keep the emails lah!!! When nothing to blog, then I choose…!…..Oh? Is that why when I stay in hotels, I run around the room naked? Eyew…? Hahahahahaha!!!!……No lah! I’m not a chip of the old block!!! You see my car, so dirty…dents all over! When it gets too dirty, can’t see thru the windscreen liao, once in a blue moon, send to the car wash!

  6. It’s okay to dust every now and then.. wouldn’t want to live in a house full of filth anyway … hehe I’m allergic to dust, so I must do it at least erm.. once a month! hahaha .. sweeping the floor more frequent than that lah hehehe enjoy life is a must, tapi kebersihan itu penting juga 😛

Umm…are you free on weekends? Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!

  7. I would rather have a messy home than to be accused of being a nag by the children.

I’ve an excuse! Old…so can be grumpy!!! Hahahahaha!!!!

  8. i wish i could do that but my allergies will act up if the house is dusty..
    Susah nya…

I’m also quite allergic to dust. Will start to itch and sneeze too…

  9. My!My! Some things sure do change. I remembered u used to clean your car day n nite! Wish I can say I am spick & span but not to everything! However having clean toilets is a must for me, I just can’t stand dirty toilets, that is probably the only part of the house i will try to clean daily.

Last time, young & energetic mah!…And car also new! Now car old already!!! Never mind lor!!!….Wife also like dat or not? Hahahahahaha!!!!

  10. for those who may be reading this page at 9pm or thereafter tonight…just a reminder to watch Channel 9 or 502 . the famous anus is debating the orice of oil….so indirectly the price of what you pay for FOOD.

Since when you become Astro programme guide? LOL!!! Too bad I was out enjoying…FOOD! Will post on that soon! Hahahahahahahaha!!!!

  11. Can I go to your house to eat all the above food? *LOL*

I’m actually thinking of having a laksa party soon…if I can find the time!

  12. I can’t help but wonder whether that’s written by someone who doesn’t like to dust!
I’m pretty much the clean freak when come to cleaning. A messy house makes me moody. My philosophy is, always put things back to their original places, so there’s no big mess to clean up. Works well so far, and plenty of time to play too! 🙂

That’s what I kept saying but to no avail! Really fed up…when you’ve just cleared everything and put it all away, and when you look back the very next minute, somebody has simply dumped something on the coffee table already!!! Arghhhh!!!!!!!!!!

  13. I’m quite a messy person but when it comes down to my study table, i’m a neat freak ! Have to tidy up my table and shift things around so that they look neat and tidy. Haha

Takes after me, do you? Look at my table in school before! Gee! I could never understand how some of them could stand it when their tables were like some waste disposal dump!

  14. I’m not a neat freak but I’m not a sloth either. 🙂

Good for you. I’m a neat freak…but sadly, quite a sloth!!!

  15. maybe one day can meet up with all the fello bloggers – mar, melbie, man-d and crash into your house.. 🙂

Can! Can! Then, all of you can dust and clean the house while I do the cooking…!!! Hahahahahaha!!!! Wouldn’t that be nice? LOL!

  16. it is important to keep your house clean and tidy at all times. Mop the floor at least once a week and always clean up the kitchen after cooking.I know a friend who hardly fold her after wash laundry its always piling up on the sofa in the living room n her children will pull out from that pile what they want to wear. AND she still got time to watch the DVD drama series..this is too extreme.

    Sounds very familiar! Hehehehehehe…!!!

  17. Re-Pollie’s comment.reminded me of someone i knew who did not clean the shower-cubicle for months till all the ‘bulu’ clogged up and u can make hair-extension out of it. The last i heard, that person finally saw the light n is very hygenic now, so Alleluia!!Some people can changed after all!LOL!

They do? U mean there’s hope after all??? Hahahahahahaha!!!!!

  18. yeah, let’s have a big gathering your place 😛 stp got astro.. nice kch.. eh, can clean up the backyard do bbq. good idea weh!!

No problem! Got karaoke some more! When are you coming???

  19. Drumsticks, Bong – that’s a great idea! Bila??? 😉

Talk only!!!…Nobody wants to come and visit this old man!!! Sob! Sob!

  20. Got…Zul suggested it to the other traxxsters.Haha

Did he?…Wah!!! He wants to bring the whole country over kah? LOL!!!
