A new day, a new place…and this time, we went loitering around Newmarket which is considered to be New Zealand’s premier retailing area…

…and fashion capital, rivalling the Auckland CBD…

Here, one can see a mixture of modern…

…and old colonial architecture…

I was somewhat amused by this…

- Bruce being American Chinese and sushi being Japanese…and also this…

Poor Bieber! LOL!!! As you can see in the photo, they have a Movenpick outlet here too and at many other places in Auckland but with the very nice New Zealand ice cream, I wonder why anyone would want to go for that. I guess it’s like going to those branded places for their expensive coffee when we can jolly well hop into one of the coffee shops for our cheaper and very much nicer local brew.
My friends took us to a shopping mall here where they had a lady singing to entertain shoppers…

We did not buy anything there – everything in NZ is so expensive, even without conversion, dollar to ringgit…but I was attracted by these lovely bird cages there…

I saw this very nice apron…

I would have bought the one that said, “My dad – the man…the legend!” but horror of horrors!!! They were priced at NZ$59.90 each!!! And I’m sure they were made in China – with that kind of money, I can go to the Supersave or 100% Discount stores here and buy enough aprons to last a lifetime. Tsk! Tsk!
One interesting thing that I saw here was this postlady – no, not a postman but a postlady…

…and the ones here either cycle around or walk to deliver the mails, not like our snail-mail guys who would go around on motorcycles as and when they feel like it…and still take ages to send our mail to our doors. Tsk! Tsk!
After looking around most of the shops in this area, we certainly worked up an appetite so where else next, if not to lunch…but that will be in the next post. You’ll come back, won’t you? Cheers!
The postlady – so cool!
Ya. real friendly and nice too, I noticed.
A live-singer at the mall. Wow!
I like it too that the streets are so not-crowded and laidback. So clean too. Malaysia could do with some copying here. Thanks again for sharing greener pasture over yonder. LOL
True, how very true! Dunno why people shouting for change left, right and centre…but they themselves never change their dirty habits. Really not hard, just a matter of self-discipline…and disciplining their offspring likewise. Real easy to point fingers at others, never even look at themselves…
The streets are so clean. Oh gosh!!…that lady all in red singing her way out. Ang ang bo hai lang, hehehe!!!…
Ya, it’s so clean everywhere there – real shame we cannot be like that here…so disgusting especially when you see people throw things out of their luxury cars like they’re not educated or something.
Still the same ‘old horse’ Bananaz who loves old buildings they are so nice. Wow like your pixz so sharp & clear.
Today only clear, other days not clear meh? You got yourself new glasses or what?
Me too was once a ‘postman’ on foot while in Sydney but a private one more of a courier service delivering parcels & letters during lunch time.
Wah!!! Made extra bucks, went dating ang moh chabo, izzit?
Saw a Ford, Toyota & Mazda car, what are the most popular cars in Auckland itself and across the country? My guess would be Ford. No?
Dunno…but I hear cars are cheap there. I guess public transport is good so they do not need to have their own cars.
Saw any Proton car during your short stay there?
Didn’t bother to notice… I’m so not into cars that even if I see a Proton, I would not know it is one. Even worse when it comes to remember car names…and car numbers! Muahahahahaha!!!!
Hmm, I can guess things at NZ are expensive!
They are!!! VERY!!! I sure am glad and thankful that I live in Sibu – cheap and nice.
Post lady! Interesting concept…but I reckon its much more comfortable to walk around there than our humid Malaysia
Defnitely! You would not find me going around that much in Malaysia. Like everytime I went to KL, I would rather just relax in the hotel… That’s why Shereen calls me “puteri lilin” and my friend, Mandy, has to drag me out everytime – grumbling that I seem to love hotels so much. So hot outside…and the horrendous jams!!! No, thank you!
i love walking and loitering around shopping areas in cities that i visit. there’s always a lot of fun things to see if we keep a look out for them!
Me too. Not to shop but to see, to observe. At this place, I saw a man, probably suffering from multiple sclerosis, in a special wheelchair – something like the one the late Christopher Reeves used after his horse riding accident. He was selling chocolates at NZ2.50 a bar, so I bought two to help out. I thought of taking a photograph of him but decided otherwise – he may not be comfortable with that. And of course, the postlady – I find all these things very interesting, not really what they have in the shops.
You should see the postmen around my area… aiyoh! Drooling habis, man.. Hahaha. Surprisingly, to be a postman is a sought after position. Many sports people take up the job as it helps them to keep fit and can be part of their training programme. Actually, the same applies to garbage men as well. Salary is not fantastic but can earn more than office workers.
Sigh!!! I can’t qualify for those jobs…obviously!
Hmmmm…gives a brand new meaning to, “Wait…wait a minute, Mr. Postman!”
Hmmmm…Cruz always tease Fearles, saying after he grown up he want to be garbage man, maybe should ask him consider to be garbage man in NZ, earn more than office workers lei!! LOL
They actually do! Those jobs that nobody wants, they pay really well. Otherwise, they would prefer to be jobless…and live off the government, on welfare. That’s why the income tax on those working there – so very high.
I heart those bird cage, so so so nice and pretty!!
I heart those apron too, so cute!!! Anything for ladies ?
You should head down there instead of going to Korea all the time. Bet you would love it there…and you and Shereen would have a great time going shopping together! Women… LOL!!!
I was such a bore…would just sit somehwere to relax and wait….
You brought back sweet stylo memories of The Stylistics with your title – You Make Me Feel Brand New
I liked Melanie’s Brand New Key too…
Is that Lucy behind Melissa in the first pic?
When we are in a foreign country, every corner seems to be fascinating to us… my camera has more than a thousand pictures when I was in US.. click, click everywhere… Well, this is certainly a memorable trip, Arthur…
Oh no!!! That was Justyn, Shereen’s son! Imagine Lucy going to push that thing like some young kid! Muahahahahaha!!!!
love the buildings there!!! =]
I like the old colonial ones…they have a charm of their own.
those birds cage were indeed attractive as well as that singer there haha
Yes, love them too!
i love that funny print on that apron haha
might as well that justyn’s shirt
You mean you like Justyn’s t-shirt as well?
I like those bird cages, too. Very lovely, I want to get a few to use for decor but so expensive over here!
Noticed that the streets are so wide and CLEAN!
Yeah, the postlady is cool! I’ve never seen one in Malaysia, in fact, I think all are postmen!
Yup, all men here…and they’ve women bus drivers too. Maybe we do have a few as well, school buses mainly, but not many.
I loves the architecture there especially the old colonial buildings. The apron is cool but at the price, I will turn away too.
Me too! Too bad over here they demolished all those nice old buildings. Real sad… Ya, things are so very expensive there…
Makes me feel go glad and thankful that I live here in Malaysia really.
LOL… You have good sense of humor as always! I like those catchy words esp the one that says My Doctor Says I Need Glasses! Cute!
Yes, real witty, I would say. I love those witty greeting cards too – would spend time browsing through them at bookstores or gift shops and have a good laugh at some of them.
lol… Bruce Lee Sushi & Rolls? I like the look of the old and the new buildings… it gives the place a realness and warmth of the world evolving with time.
Ya…sad that they got rid of all of ours here – really a great loss to our heritage. Sad, very sad.
