Meet me in the barn…

After an exhilarating tour of all the scenic places, off we went to Silverdale

We stopped by this very quaint antique shop…

Antique shop 1

…just to look around. I love that blue and white soup tureen…

Antique shop 2

…but of course, I did not buy it. In fact, looking at the prices of everything in New Zealand, I did not even dare to ask how much it cost.

After that brief pit stop along the way, we proceeded to this place

Barn 1

It is a place that sells everything that has anything to do with the garden so one would get to see all kinds of flowers all over that huge place…

Barn 2

I’ve shared the photographs of the flowers in my album on Facebook so I would not be including those here.  Anyway, you can have a glimpse of some here…

Barn 3

…and since it was almost Christmas, they had a lot of poinsettias and everything red…

Barn 4

…and a myriad of colours…

Barn 5

I love what they have here and those garden lovers who are into landscaping and stuff like that would surely enjoy browsing around here…

Barn 6

Don’t you love this cute-looking gnome…

Barn 7

…or this frog…

Barn 8

…for instance? Unfortunately, they’re too heavy and even if I could afford them, there would be no way I could bring all of them home. Besides, I cannot imagine putting them outside in our tropical weather- they probably would get discoloured, green moss and all, very soon.

These look interesting but I do not really know what they are for…

Barn 9

I guess they’re for baking one’s own homemade pizzas – sure beats doing that in an oven, that’s for sure!

Well, we were there for tea at the cafe…

Barn 10

…and Melissa had the macaroni cheese…

Barn 11

…which we all shared while my friend’s son had the lasagna…

Barn 12

Her hubby ordered a scone…

Barn 13

…but it did not look like the ones I am more familiar with and it did not taste all that great either.

So, after our cuppa, the tour continued…and this time to a place called Puhoi…and that would be in the next post, I’m afraid. See you!!!!

  1. The lasagna is bursting with color, love it. That does look like a pizza oven, we have similar here in the States. I’ve thought about purchasing one for a while since I’ll use any excuse to cook outside during the warmer months. ;)

We have a gnome in our flower garden. We don’t have one in our vegetable garden though. I’m thinking of adding a scarecrow, although I know it won’t scare anything. Anyway our our poor gnome’s color has started to fade, after the many years he’s faithfully watched over our lovely flowers. :)

They are pizza ovens. I guess it is nice to cook outdoors in temperate countries – it would be so very hot here that I have 2nd thoughts about having BBQs even… Oh? So they fade in your weather too? Here, they turn green and slimy…covered with moss, real unsightly. Not advisable unless you are very hardworking, which I’m not, or you have a full-time gardener to tend to the landscaping, which I haven’t. :(

Oops! Duplicate comment. Dunno why the 1st one was held back for moderation. Never mind, the more the merrier… LOL!!! :D

  3. Nice pictures. Happy New Year to you and your family! :D

Thanks, and the same to you and yours. Haven’t seen you around for a few days. Been busy? All all right, I hope.

  4. Very nice pictures! I’ve seen huge barn warehouses like that too – we use them to buy large amounts of acetone. Back in the naughty old days.

Looking forward to the Puhoi post!

Happy New Year to you and your family buddy! :)

Same to you and yours, Huai Bin. Puhoi coming up soon… ;)

  5. What a yellow building. Hahaha

Did you buy lots of knick-knacks there? :)

Nope…for one thing, things are generally very expensive – even before conversion and for another, my dear friend, Shereen had given me lots and lots of stuff to bring home. Seeing is believing, I tell you! Wouldn’t want to pay excess baggage…

  6. Love to see all those plants. Food looks good. We have a very big garden centre here too and I really like it. So much things to see apart from the plants and then a very nice big cafe to sit in and relax. I need to go again :D

Ya, loved the flowers – all so beautiful… Nice place to hang out, really.

  7. Love the lasagne… normally i only get to eat that in Secret Recipe.. so … more exploring… in Puhoi… Puhoi.. what a nice name.. sounds “chinesey”

Hang on! Puhoi, here we come… LOL!!! SR? Melissa likes the one at Pizza Hut…not sure about the one at SR.

  8. I would have gone all crazy at that garden place, wanting to buy all the plants! Guess the weather in NZ suitable for all those beautiful flowers. For the time being, I’ll just be happy with my bunga raya :)

Plus it’s spring/summer…and the flowers are in full bloom! So very beautiful! My missus went wild, snapping photographs of all the flowers everywhere. I’ve shared an album of some of them in my Facebook page.

  9. tsk tsk tsk.. just when i thank you for not posting about food yesterday, here they come again!! and that is indeed a heavy tea, don’t you think?? hahahaha.. anyway, what a “unique” looking scone.. is it intentionally or accidentally made to look like that?? :D

I don’t know. Hang around and you will get to see some scones – the way they usually look like…and don’t say you have not been warned. There are lots and lots and lots of food posts coming up…and right now, we’re not even halfway through our stay in Auckland! Heavy? The tea? Well, not for me…I just had a coffee, didn’t eat anything…so kwai one! Hehehehehehe!!!!

  10. Oh, two lovely venues after my own heart! Nice! Lasagna, yum!

    Is it still snowing? :p

Gosh!!! It has been snowing for a month now and you’ve just noticed? Oh dear!!! LOL!!!! :D Should be stopping anytime now…

  11. if there is one thing I would cart home is that Fuera Oven! lol….

you have great resistant cos I would definately buy some antique home.. :)

I wonder how on earth you would do that. Overseas flights – the charges for excess baggage can be killing…not like our local flights, that’s for sure. Anyway, I can’t possibly buy much of anything – wait till day after tomorrow and you will see what I brought home – all the goodies from NZ!!! Yum! Yum!!!

  12. Yeah the 3 legged frog *one hidden never mind still 3* gives good fengshui according to some master haha. The Fuera Ovens would be a good deco as fireplace in my cave or it is a fire place. No?

Why would you want a fireplace…in our kind of weather? >.<

    • Deco saja for sui purpose only mah hahaha. Its Bananaz’s dream to have a fireplace in the living room minus the fire of course and this Fuera Ovens thingy sort of suitable for me kakaka.

That’s for baking pizzas lah… Want a fireplace, much easier and nicer to get one custom-made here…or one of those pot-belly heater-stoves would make a nice decor…

  13. Good that you didn’t buy the antique! So space consuming and heavy~

Ya…if I were an antique collector, I would probably have it shipped, heavily insured and all. No possibility of bringing it back on board the flight, no way.

  14. Wow, love to see all the beautiful flowers. The lasagna looks so tempting. Nice post.

Yes, loved the flowers here…and there was another place – even nicer! Watch out for the post…but not so soon, I think.

  15. I simply love The Garden Centers in NZ. No matter where we go, I would definately make Simon stop, turn around and go back if we happen to spot one while driving on the highway.. Lol! Food at Garden Centers are not usually great but the ambiance makes it worthwhile :)

Really loved the flowers…and everything. Nothing like that here… :(

  16. those ceramics, decors and the whole barn were pretty cool and beautiful

love the color of the exterior, and that gnome and frog garden decor as well

Ya…everything’s so nice and pretty…really pleasing to the eye.

  17. wow.. the antique shop looks nice. I would have bought so much stuffs from there if I ever visit this place.

Young people, no problem, I guess. Can carry a whole lot. I believe in travelling light but I guess you can always courier the stuff back first. You collect antiques? Wink! Wink! LOL!!! :D
