I received a text message from my ex-student, Alex, that night saying that this place was so crowded…and I replied that I was there for dinner but I had left the place. He responded saying that he saw my car and they had to go to some place else instead…and indeed, the restaurant was so very packed almost every night over the Chinese New Year period, at times even for lunch, so it would be best for anyone planning to dine there to make prior reservations like what I did…

My missus and I were there for dinner with my godson/ex-student, Andrew, and his wife Michelle who would be leaving town in a couple of days and also my ex-student, Hang Yuh, who is presently based in Kazakhstan. I wanted the Four Seasons or the leng pua (cold plate)…but the lady boss said that it would be easier for them if I would have the steaming hot version instead…

…and I agreed to her proposal just to make things easier for them to cope with the crowd.
I ordered for them my favourites and of course, we had the braised pork with mantao (steamed buns)…

…and the deep fried tapah (fish) in the very nice brown sauce…

They got this particular order of mine wrong – I wanted the creamy butter prawns and got the kiam sor hay (salty & crusty prawns) instead…

It didn’t really matter actually for they enjoyed it a lot. I can imagine the commotion in the kitchen as they desperately try to cope with the unusually huge crowd…and we’re thankful that we were able to get a place to enjoy the delightful dinner.
The bill came up to only RM115.00 for 5 persons, inclusive of drinks and rice…and this vegetable dish…

I would think that was pretty reasonable as we had the expensive fish and the prawns.
After that, we adjourned to this place…

…for drinks…

…and to chat. It was also very crowded but thankfully, we had no problem getting a place there.
We stayed there till quite late before we called it a day. It definitely was a great night out for me…and I do hope the feeling’s the same with the others concerned.

I would enjoy the lengpua! Yummy…. Selamat hari wilayah. Too bad am taking first flight out at 7am to ketapang, kalimantan barat. U have a good day!
Oh? public holiday eh? And another one coming up Chap Goh Meh… So nice. Have a safe and pleasant flight. Be good there! LOL!!!
See, am addicted to your posts. Sleep also post, wake up also gotta post a comment. Its a cold wednesday morning here. Brrrr…
Hehehehehe!!!! KL raining? So nice. Here, ok… Btw, I booked the hotel rooms for everybody already. Counting the days….
Was in kl yesterday, yes drizzling hard. Fun to see those red short minis handling the rain. Tis morning in jkt, waiting for my limo out to ketapang. Gloomy cold day, hope it does not rain, else I can’t take off, worse, I can’t land!
Oh? You used Air Asia eh? Wonder if my friend’s on duty… Usually, when raining heavily, planes can take off, no problem. It’s the landing – very often have to divert or circle in the air for a long long time. We’re quite used to that here.
Ming Mei Shi, food looks good as usual . This is during Chinese new year ? RM 115 only ? Cheap cheap .
Yah…MUST go when you come back to Sibu. Hey! You’re in KL – public holiday. What are you doing up so early?
Hahahhahaha !!! Surprise lei . I am sending the maid to airport , early flight at 615am !!! Now back home and continue my sleep !! * yawn *
Yes , this is in my list no 1 must try when I am back .
Oh? So no maid now? Or have you got a new one?
I think it is because of the price that makes the restaurant packed with crowd, seriously it is cheap,,,,,,,,didn’t know you got a god son ?
Ya, I have a few – my ex-students. I’m a genuine godfather, don’t play-play! LOL!!!
this must be a very nice restaurant that you hardly can get a seat unless you’ve make a booking to reserve a table earlier.. wow, what’s the difference between the hot and cold platters?? it seems to me they just add some hot gravy on top of the dish, errr, which i think without the gravy it looks nicer.. :p
Nope! The cold platter comprises stuff that they would have to prepare one by one – like the almond flake coated fish fillet that I had here:
http://suituapui.wordpress.com/2012/01/06/what-are-you-doing-new-years-eve/
This one looks like they’re all mostly boiled and the gravy poured over it.
Ya, the food here IS nice…and even at ordinary times, it may be full…so always better to play safe and drop by or call a day earlier to make a booking.
Wow… this one whole month, we can bookmark some places which offer food that really make us drool!! WK, better start doing it!! hahaha…
You’ll have to do some revision…go through the old posts in the archives and see what you would like to eat when you’re in town. Make a list! Otherwise, like Shereen, when she had already gone back, then she complained that I did not take her to eat this or eat that…
*stick out tongue*!
Hmmm…must remember to post on every place we go, everything we eat… Yum! Yum! Muahahahahaha!!!!
Wah, you really like this place. I plan to go there on Chap gor meh. Is Hang Yuh still in town?
Hah!!! Go ahead. Make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. Hang Yuh said he was waiting for his visa to go back and work in Borat-land – I think he’s still around.
Can Bananaz be your gotson? Got no got?..~;). Restaurants are only packed during CNY?
This one can be full or crowded even during normal times especially on weekends.
http://suituapui.wordpress.com/2011/06/11/no-reservations/
Better book unless you’re ready to go and look for some place else to eat elsewhere.
I am sure the food was delicious…trust you on this..hehehehe ( experience lar…everything you say nice, sure will taste nice one) but I don’t like to see dishes with lots of gravy like that.Very messy looking and look very lam pek-pek ( not sure if this is an official word or not but I would usually use this word to describe sogginess).Whatever it is, you are rght, the price is ridiculously cheap especially during CNY ( slaughter time for makan places!).
Wah…why ah you tepek only Hang Yuh’s photo?..mau tolong carikan him a wife,is it?..muahahaha
Ya…got any suitable candidate? About time he gets married and settles down. Tsk! Tsk! LOL!!! No worries about the gravy – just like you, they loved it so much that they licked the plate clean – the goodness is in the gravy…so delicious, they said – nothing like that in NZ and definitely not in Borat-land! Kesian…. But I do feel it would be nicer to eat it there – if tapao home, I think the fish would be soggy already, not so nice.
Tepek is the kinda word I have not heard for a long time. Good ole memories!
Never heard of the word before…
Tepek means tampal la..haiya!Where are you from wks? Nice to know you
Itu papakucing lah…orang terengganu…
STP opening a Match Making Service ah? LOL….
You know any sweet young thing who’s interested? We can bagi the pork legs? You two and I get two too… LOL!!!
love all those seafood!
What about the pork? No? Healthy eating eh?
I can imagine the commotion in the kitchen with the sudden surge of patrons. Thank goodness they enjoyed the prawns or else not very nice lah kan to get ur orders wrong?
It’s all right… Must give and take. They are willing to accommodate me even on such very busy days so must be more understanding and forgiving. Mine table of 5, the rest all big tables – full course Chinese, and that’s where all the money is…
The food looks good! But I hate it when the place is too crowded!
This is one place that I do not mind even when it’s full – the tables are not arranged too close together so not so congested…and the service is good and most importantly, it is not noisy. Some places, I think it’s because the ceiling is too low or for some reason or other, get so noisy that my appetite would be ruined – so put off, no mood to enjoy the food anymore…even at some of the supposedly classier (and more expensive) cafes in town.
Wow.. very very nice food! Especially the fish! I’m sure your ex students enjoyed it as much as you guys did…
Happy Chinese New Year!
Same to you and Saucer. Ya…the food is really very good…and most importantly, very affordable. That’s why I keep going back…
Yeah, every place was so full during CNY that you had to make reservations. We ended up eating at The Ark during one family dinner.
Kazakhstan? It sounds interesting!
Ya…and your programme was so tight – too bad we did not get to go out for lunch or dinner together. Will do that another time. Thanks for dropping by my place for a quickie! LOL!!! It will be in tomorrow’s post. Ummm…according to him, it must be the most boring place in the world…but the money’s good.
…and the girls…oh la la. Simon has a student who is now with MAS. His stepmom is from Kazakhtan…very pretty and exotic looking
)
Yakah? He doesn’t look like Borat, I hope. Muahahahaha!!!!
No lar..nothing like Borat..Malay, very slim and very sihat. Orang minyak also. After marrying this girl, he got heart-attack..hahaha…must be all the extra co-curiculur activities and blue pill popping to keep up with the young girl. Age difference is about 40 years. You want kah?..muahahaha
Oh dear! I’d better warn the fella’ – stay away from the females there…they must be man-eaters… Oops!!! Muahahahahaha!!!!
Food looks really delicious. Can’t believe during CNY, still can get this price for all the nice food. Cheap…cheap. Great company too.
I think they just charged the normal prices…or maybe they see me poor old retiree…kesian! LOL!!!
Delicious foods again.
I also experienced what your friend experienced in a restaurant. There are so many people that we got not choice but to look for another restaurant. What I hate the most is that I need to wait just to eat.
Must pre-book…so the food will be served as soon as we arrived. Otherwise, may have to wait a long long time.
Wah it’s certainly a new take on the ‘leng pua’ … looks delicious. Would definitely try if I’m there. I also like the ‘tapah fish’ which is not easy to find here … so far I can only find it in Slim River, Perak (our favorite stopover just to eat this fish). During CNY, everywhere also crowded including those normally not so great restaurants.
No choice. These days, we do not get to see it anymore but before, when there were fewer restaurants – they would go to even the worse ones to hold their wedding banquets…and you see the tables arranged all along the pavement for the guests because those restaurants were too small to cater to large numbers. Eyewwww!!! I would rather not get married then and pick another date instead.
Some people prefer the steaming hot version of the supposedly “leng pua” – I’m ok with both.
reckon over the festive break, everywhere seemed packed like crazy and if we finally get a seat, it’s another long wait. Ended up this year we opted for home cooked meals
They’re very efficient here – service good and the food served promptly. I think by around 45 minutes, we had finished eating and adjourned to the other place…
P.S. Can’t get to your blog via your gravatar link. I wish everybody would not use that…
Wobble-wobble meat again, yum
Wriggly-wriggly… Slurpssss!!!!! They loved it too!
You a fan of wobble-wobble meat too? Both my boys can’t get enough of it…opppsss!sounds so wrong..muahahaha
Nice, so very nice… Slurpssss!!!!! @.@!!! Muahahahahaha!!!!
??what? Worm meh…wriggly-wriggly!! Wobbly-wobbly lah or as you once said, jiggly-jiggly! muahahaaaaa!
Gettin’ jiggy with it, are you?
Never tried Tapah fish before. This fish can grow really huge…..as long as a sampan
Dunno true or not, I hear they are two types – freshwater and sea…and the freshwater ones are nicer. Also big…so they just serve a slice per dish like in the picture – enough to go round.
wow braise pork with mantao..
u really know how to enjoy good food ya…….
I love d other dishes as well.. simple n nice..
d price is reasonable… nice nice nice…
Come on over! You can have these and more…
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh braised pork with mantao, images of that dish are literally dancing in my mind now.. I need some of it!
Have you booked your tickets yet? When are you coming? Saw an offer the other day – only RM49. So cheap!
i need to go work in the kitchen there to curi ilmu then u blog a lot about this place o it must be really good..
Great idea! Then I can go and eat in your restaurant for free…
food looks delicious! and u are right! must reserve! otherwise gotta wait! =(
braised pork with mantou! niceee! 115 for 5 person very reasonable eh!
If you do not reserve, there will not be a table for you…not just have to wait for the food. But they did arrange a table specially for me once and I did not have to wait long for the food – except that I had to order the easier-to-cook stuff.
We can never get such good food for such a good price during CNY in KL. Lucky you!
There are many places cashing in on the festive season, jacking up the prices…but thankfully, not this one.
