It was a reunion of sorts when I met up with some very very old friends of mine from the 60s for lunch that day. There was one from the UK, another from Australia and the rest came over from Kuching – all of whom I had not seen for a very long time. We used to go to parties and had a great time dancing together…and we also wrote letters to the radio stations requesting for songs and dedicating them to one another…and we would often get together to loiter around, crack jokes and laugh and have a whole lot of fun. Those were the days…oh so many years ago.
I suggested meeting them at this place that I go to quite frequently as it is just across the road from where they were staying so it would be very convenient and the food is not too bad and not too expensive. I had the sweet and spicy lamb set lunch…

…which had some fried cangkuk manis by the side…

…and a few slices of cucumber and nasi lemak sambal on top plus a complimentary bowl of soup and a free drink. It was quite nice but I found the lamb a bit over-fried and kind of hard or crispy.
Now what did the rest have? They shared the chicken curry…

…and the mee mamak…

…and the nasi goreng istimewa (fried rice special)…

…as well as the nasi lemak…

Everybody seemed to be watching their figure or was very careful with their diet. Sigh!!!
It certainly was nice seeing them again and hopefully, our paths would cross again someday…

I’m thanking God that I’m smart enuff to come here with my tummy full today. >.< If I was hungry, padah!
You’ve eaten? So early in the morning? I haven’t… Haven’t even boiled water yet…. Excuse me sekejap….
Yups, leftover spaghetti from malam semalam. Wasted la if buang, the leftovers still alot… so I simply reheat and makan wif my hubby as bfast. I tell you… nasib baik sempat reheat. >.< the gas habis as soon as I finished reheating the food. Been tinking about getting myself an electronic cooker, but it kena condemn by my mum and dad… they say the taste is different and very consume electricity… so now I have to say bye bye to my dreams of getting myself a dapur karan!
Every word your parents said is true…
I concur!
Like steamboat… Charcoal one’s the best. Electric one, sigh…what to do? More convenient to use at home.
I’m not exactly tempted to buy after hearing their words.. cakap the food tarak ‘wok hei’ and stuff, I oredi dowan buy. What’s the point masak on electric stove kalau the food comes out not nice. They said the TNB bill will point to the sky too… so I takut liao. LOL!
Yup…take our word for it. Never ever buy an electric cooker….
nasi lemak…sobs….hungry liao
KL banyak… 7-11 pun ada! Muahahahahaha!!!!
Come over, I belanja.
Murahnya belanja… Muahahahaha!!!!
Man, that word 60s, sounds so distant and yet so near, kan? hey, I thought reunion is supposed to be over dinner, wine, song and kara one,,,,more fun that way, isn’t it. anyway it is always good to catch up with the old pals.
Looking for the days when you could put up those 60s pictures for tontonan umum , kekekkekekekek, and I will be very happy to see them, really .
They had it in Kuching but I couldn’t go as I had to babysit my bedridden mum and then my cousin passed away so suddenly…so I did not really have much time to get together with them. This was an informal get-together before they left town the next day.
I’m sorry to hear about your cousin’s passing….my condolence to you and your family. May God bless your cousin’s soul and he rest in peace.
Thanks. He had a good passing – went to see Johnny English, legs felt numb on the way back to the car, the son drove, didn’t look well in the car, took him to medical centre, got worse, rushed to hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. Healthy, fit and not fat like me… A consoling thought is that he did not suffer at all. Just a year older than me though…
It’s a comfort to know that he didn’t suffer when he went. My maternal grandfather, two of my uncles (mother’s elder brothers) all passed away while they were asleep. I think God is very merciful when He takes the good people away.
Yes, God is merciful. That’s the best way to die – no suffering and no need to ganggu people.
Wah, budak in the 60′s pun jahat jugak, ah..know how to melepak and yet when we the younger ones do the same, macam-macam story come out..siap masuk newspaper!
You can gigit, meh the keras lamb?…I thought some of your pagar already runtuh…hehehe.
We had good clean fun – none of the bohsia or whatever stuff…and dancing too – no drugs, no booze – just twisting and a go-go-ing, all for the fun of it. Hah!!! No pagar, no problem. Nothing’s gonna stop me…except abalone! Simply cannot chew, want to just telan also takut choke to death nanti.
*singing* It’s a final countdown… oooooooooOOOO… LOL…. Shereen…u gonna F1 makan in Sibu soon…dun lupa bawa ENO. LOL.
ENO? I had a dream last nite that chi-kit pills are banned in Malaysia and I said…What? After dunno how many tonnes I’ve taken? Strange dream – apa tak mimpi number strike berjuta2… Tsk! Tsk!
Cleff,
Ya..leaving in an hours time.Baru finished packing..hehehe..belum mandi and cuci gigi lagi.Never mind, i’ll make sure I makan for you too..lol…eee…I tak pernah minum Eno believe it or not.I buy Eno just to make kuih apam only.
Have a delightful flight! See you tomorrow!!!
Ishhh… tak baik gamble… Big Bapak up there tak suka, yunno?
Who? Who? Me? *blinking eyes innocently… LOL!!!
This afternoon we are having a gathering too at East Ocean again.. a complimentary treat by one of the retired staff who was awarded 1K earlier this year.. hahaha… yes, it is nice to meet up with our friends from yesteryears… I cannot say 1960s..that time i was really very young.. my time will be the late 1970s… hehehe…
You’re younger, I see… This was the late 60s also – around 68 or 69… Hmmmm….too bad about your gathering. Should have just asked your girl to go to the school canteen and eat something and wait… Once in a blue moon, should be ok lah…
and then you realize everyone is still as slim as ever?
Not all of them…but I can safely say that I have grown the most! Muahahahahahaha!!!!
Many many moon come curry chicken come, mee mamak come, nasi goreng istimewa come, nasi lemak come, how come kampua mee no come..haha. Nice pixz yummy food.
They’ve been having kampua all over town already…and this being a hotel, non-halal kampua…where got the same?
i like these kind of dishes.. simple, and delicious..
No plans to come over to Sibu? Will treat you to all the nice stuff in town. Young people, not attached, still very free…should travel whenever you can.
U r so cool….writing letters to the radio station to dedicate songs! haha… I’ve tried to call in before, but the line just won’t get through.
Nice to meet up with old friends. Sure got lots of things to catch up! I think lamb should taste nicer if they are spicy.
Later, I progressed to smses….and was a regular on TraxxFm. I never called – very nervous…except for a competition or they called me. Made a lot of friends too…just like blogging – only the name is changed. Yeah, it was great seeing everybody again…
I got kawan who DJ in KKfm every now and then. She’s a blogger too… and sometimes, if she’s on air, I like to call in to kacau daun. LOL.
KL can listen to KKfm so far kah?
There’s live streaming. You can listen to the radio online thru their website.
Sekarang zaman sudah berubah. Wakakakaka!
I’ve a friend on one KL online radio…listened once, kept streaming….and got bored after a while so I just logged out.
It must be an unforgettable night for all of you besides all those nice food
We had lunch…
You make me drool again !!!….haiz…
Yes, once upon a time I was a request fan too. So crazy over requesting and dedicating them to our friends. So happy when my name was announced, hahaha!!!..those were the days I love. I still remember some of my favourite DJs, Ramli Junaidi, Jennifer Lau, Coma Smith to name a few.
Now, I don’t recall anybody by your name – maybe you belonged to a different gang…or you’re some years later. We were earlier – people like Anthony Ramaniar, Sylvia Lim, Mohd Rosli Ahmad…and later came Wilfred Marimuthu and Patrick Lao Yong Ban….but I do know those that you mentioned as well – still going strong when they came into the scene. LOL!!!
Oh ya!…heard of Anthony Ramaniar, Patrick Lau & Wilfred Marimuthu. They are great DJs too.
Ya, you’re not that young, after all… Hehehehehe!!!!
Slightly younger than you, LOL!!!….
So consoling hor… Muahahahahaha!!!!
wow!! after 50 years you guys are still getting in touch!! that’s amazing, and more amazing is that everybody is still very careful of their figures?? hahaha~~ :p
Except me…
Muahahahahaha!!!!!
The food loks great, I love curry… this looks really tasty with white rice!
It came with rice and a complimentary soup…but being a hotel, yunno lah… There are places that serve much nicer curries elsewhere…and we can cook much nicer ones of our own at home.
it’s nice once in a while we gather with old friends especially cracking out the darndest jokes…Oppss…I meant me and my friends
We do that too… Birds of the same feather.
it is nice to keep in touch.
even after such long years. i think i have lost touch with most of my friends. it is scary actually haha.
Facebook. We got re-connected via Facebook last year and arranged to come together for a reunion. Unfortunately, my mum’s Indon maid stopped sometime in February and ever since, getting away even for a weekend is out of the question…
the sweet and spicy lamb looks like my fav sweet and spicy pork. And I like it crispy! It’s what makes it nice
Come on over, honeymoon in Sibu! Best place for that -nothing else better to do…
LOL.. Whenever I try to go on a diet, it will only last for few days. Hahaha..
No worries. You’re not alone… LOL!!!
sweet and spicy lamb? Sound interesting. I like your plate set lunch.
Nasi lemak look good too.
This is at Garden hotel coffee house?
Yup. The food is quite nice…but slightly more expensive…but cheaper than the other classy hotels in town. I like the place – quiet, comfortable and clean…and it has its own private parking – that’s the best thing about it.
@Shereen…Godspeed your journey and keep you and your family safe.
Makan banyak banyak on my behalf, wokay? Makan dulu, diet diet belakang kira. *ROFLOL*
After Sibu, Bangkok… Habis! Sure will need a new wardrobe!
OMG…bertambah sihatla! LOL!
Yalor…like me. Mana mahu begitu teruk macam refugee dari Ethiopia… Muahahahahaha!!!!
yummy, yummy.. i lke cangkuk manis very much..
When are you coming over, doc? I’ve been waiting and waiting for you to let me know the date… Come, come quick!
Wah the mee goreng mamak sure glistens and beckons… mesti sedap dari rupanya.
It was good…but there are better ones around.
Glad to hear you had a nice reunion. Great food, friends and conversation. Perfect.
Everything looks delicious. Have a great weekend.
You too! Yes, it’s always nice to get together with old friends and talk about the good ol’ days….and thank God everyone’s well. Haven’t seen you around for a while? Been busy, have you?
Or everyone was watching your figure? ! sorry, was just making fun. I’m sure you have a good time savouring the food.
They couldn’t help it, could they?… There would be sooooo much more to watch. Muahahahahaha!!!!!
