Rantings, ravings & ramblings of a rollicking mind

Just passing through…

You will never be able to guess where this is, with all that greenery and even a nice little pool with flowing water…

KLIA natural greenery

It is actually at the KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) and unlike before, inside the domestic departure lounge these days, they have placed a lot of chairs for transit passengers to sit while waiting for their connecting flights…

KLIA domestic departure lounge

We arrived before noon from Penang and our flight back to Sibu was at 7.30 p.m. so we chose to park ourselves at some obscure corner where we could sit with a certain amount of privacy and also enjoy the soothing view of nature outside while waiting.

My daughter said she was still full from the breakfast that we had at the airport in Penang, so I settled down comfortably across one of the three-seaters and had a nap. I must have been very tired after the week-long holiday as my daughter said that I was snoring so very loudly. Luckily there wasn’t anybody else around that part of the airport or else it would be kind of embarrassing, don’t you think? LOL!!!

I woke up at around 2.00 p.m. and we decided to go and grab something to eat. I chose a nice table with a good view…

KLIA MAS Boeings

…while my missus went to get the food and drinks.

My daughter and I had the nasi lemak with chicken rendang

…which was pretty good – much better than what they serve for breakfast at this hotel for RM13.50.

My missus had the mee mamak with sotong

…which was very nice too. I do not know exactly how much she paid but she said it was somewhere in the region of RM10.00 each.

After having had our fill, we went back to our corner…and I went back to sleep again. Gee! That was really great and for the first time ever, I reached home late that night and was not feeling in the least, tired.

When I woke up at around 4 something, I went back to the food section to the Burger King outlet there. They had something new on their menu – the premium angus steakhouse…

KLIA Burger King

…and I had to give it a try.

It wasn’t cheap though – RM12.90 a la carte…which would total up to over RM13.50 with the 5% service tax. I opted for the set – RM16.90…and RM17.75 with the added tax and besides the burger…

…I also got a drink and some french fries.

The three of us shared all that (though it was my daughter who ate most of the burger)…

…and frankly, I must say that it was such a disappointment. I would much sooner go for the double cheese burger in Sibu for RM16.90 which in my honest opinion, would be heaps better and worth the money even though it is quite pricey.

Let us just say that should I be passing  through that way again, that is one thing that I definitely will NOT have…

  1. What was wrong with the burger?Angus beef is supposingly one of the better quality beef and with better taste. You can’t go wrong with angus beef unless you overcooked it or the dressing with the meat sucks.Nice to be able to ‘visit’ you again.

Welcome back, missed having you around. Well, it just did not taste as nice – probably too thin. I would much rather go for the double cheese…but that too cannot compare to the one we have here in Sibu, though expensive (RM16.90)…

  2. um, the egg on the nasi lemak look so good. where are you having the nasi lemak and the mee mamak btw?
the burger king! hehee, i pretty like burger king, well if compared with mcD!

Eyewwwww….I do not like egg cooked with the ring like that. Well, that was at KLIA – the Asian (Malaysian) food outlet there, beside Burger King in the domestic departure lounge. Well, I didn’t mind either…until I had that giant double cheese burger in Sibu – eating burgers will never the same again!

  3. What a day bro eating then ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ then eating again then ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ my oh my you must be dead tired in your food marathorn * jab too much by the thorns*?

Travelling can be real stressful – worrying about missing your flight, the delays, the long waiting…and that makes it tiring too but this one was kind of relaxing…as I get to sleep…a lot! Hehehehehehe!!!! ;)

  4. So while in the airport you gotta only two choices for the food. Take it or leave it. Even though they are pricey you have no other better option but to eat and dig deeper into the pockets.

If the food is nice, it’s o.k. but at some airports, what they serve is really crap! And at LCCT, the food outlets are so crowded with passengers and their suitcases all over the place, sitting and waiting (as there are not many seats for people to wait) and it’s so hot too…etc…etc…etc… The nicest and coolest place is in the toilet – where there is a giant fan! :(

  5. One thing i must salute you cikgu, you are a meticulous kind of person, aren’t you…. one trip to Penang that lasted about a few days and you can blog about the whole trip, all the round trip for about 2 weeks or so, i believe this is not the last instalment of it ,right?

LOL!!! I’m afraid this is the last – would reach home already by the end of this post. Coming right up – my Christmas posts. Make sure you drop by!!! ;)

  6. Yeah! Yeah! It is really unimaginable that there is a forest in KLIA right? :D

Very nice touch…thumbs up to the designers!

  7. Somehow it reminded me of ‘La Nging’ river!!!

Ya…something like that :) – those good old days, so laid-back and close to nature.

  8. I tried burger King once and decided never to take any burger from burger king anymore.. :P

You’re definitely not missing out on anything! I wouldn’t bother going either…if I had other options.

  9. LOL….me not a fan of beef. The one i had at HK is chicken, but the meat is awesome. Juicy and tender with the sauce. But it is freaking pricy, double of what u had at KLIA. HKD45++, about RM20++…LOL!!!

*Pengsan!!! Sooooo expensive? And they say food is cheap in Hongkong? My daughter had the chicken burger that day – when we were on transit to Penang. I didn’t try so I wouldn’t whether it was any good…

  10. Ohhh… Burger king is my hubby’s favourite fast food, I know nutz about Burgler king until I met him! They served endless flow of soda drinks and love their sundae the most!;D

Eyewwww….I normally don’t go to such places except sometimes when my daughter wants to go – just follow. :( So when she’s not home, you would never find me anywhere near them.

  11. Wahh you got a private corner to yourself at the airport! Which corner is it? Until snoring also no one can listen! Next time I wanna sleep at that corner also.. Not that I snore lah.. LOL!

Somewhere near the Famous Amos outlet – it’s round a corner…not in the midst of people walking up and down, so very private and quiet. Nice!

    • Not near the smoking room meh? Hmmm…I remember lurking around that place while my hubby went inside the room to lepas gian… =.=

Not exactly near but somewhere there – have to go past the airline transfer counters, Burger King, Ferrari stall etc…to get to the smoking lounge.

  12. That’s one quiet airport.. always like that? Trying to think the last time I was at burger king.. haha. Checked their website and we have the Steakhouse XT Burger. You have Angus and I have XT – what the heck is XT? haha

Ya…it’s not exactly crowded like some airports – nice and easy though there are flights going in and out all the time. There’s the cheap airline terminal (LCCT or low-cost carrier terminal – that one’s like a madhouse!). Search me! What on earth does XT stand for? Extra tough? LOL!!! :D

  13. feel like makan nasi lemak now…wanna cook ..got sambal petai but no more coconut milk…hmmmm…

No grocer near your place? Canned santan also ok what…but these days I use evaporated milk mostly. Healthier…

    • Go buy nasi lemak? Now tarak kah? Oooo… sambal petai… save me some. LOL!

I thought KL anytime got – worse comes to the worst, go 7 Eleven…got lah. LOL!!! :D

  14. I thought of all the fast food chains.. BK serves the best burger in town. Is it so bad ? Looks great from yr photo, even better than nasi lemak n mee mamak.
Sadly, many BK outlets at KL closed down. There was one near our home, it may be the reason why my hubs bought the house we’re staying now.. but after moving in, BK closed, replaced by a mamak place.. *sad*

Didn’t like this one. I would think the double cheese or the one with swiss mushroom were better…but after eating the burger at that place in Sibu, all burgers anywhere are not good enough anymore.

  15. Hahahahaha… the first picture… I saw it too when I was in KLIA last year… it’s somewhere near the indoor smoking room in KLIA, isn’t it?

The smoking lounge – somewhere in that wing but not exactly near, still have to walk quite a distance.

  16. The egg does not look appetizing… I prefer the good old fashion eggs fried in the kuali where the whites are crispy and the yolks are runny.

I went to BK with my dad the other day. He had the same thing, but not nice… my French Chicken burger was way nicer…

Ya…..I hate eggs fried like way and my missus went and bought that ring to fry eggs like that. Tsk! Tsk! :(

  17. The look of your nasi lemak is really tempting leh.. *salivating* Feel like going out for supper now. OMG! I have been eating like a cow since the start of December.. LOL>…

Don’t worry… You’re not the only one. Worse thing is I haven’t stopped yet – in Kuching today and no prize for guessing what I’ve been doing since I arrived yesterday evening. :(

  18. somehow i love the surroundings of KLIA..

And it’s quiet, peaceful…not too busy, very relaxing. I like! Certainly not like LCCT… :(

  19. yeah, i’ve seen other bloggers blog about the garden in KLIA.. but when i was there early this month, i couldn’t find the garden.. most probably it’s inside the Gate G & H building??

Maybe you were distracted by all the beautiful girls selling chocolates, perfume, watches and so on… LOL!!! :D

  20. hahahahhahahhahahaha…now i know how you enjoy your long wait transit. Sleep, eat and sleep !!! LOL

Angus steak house burger? I read about Angus steak house at Pavillion, serve very good steak. I didn’t know Burger King got Angus Steak House burger. First read i thought you went to Angus Steak House!!

Yah, that was the best – if only, every day like that. LOL!!! Angus is supposed to be prime/premium beef…and that was why I was disappointed. Nothing good about it – the usual beef patties in burgers may even be better, including Rambly’s. :(

  21. the burger is expensive. I could have easily eaten 3 bowls of wanton mee with that price and feel satisfied!

Ya…that’s why I wonder why teenagers love this kind of food and love to hang out at such places. The food isn’t that great…and with the money, they can easily go for other much nicer things.

  22. BK is great. Love the burgers & prefer them over McD’s any day.
The only thing better than BK is Carl’s Jr.

But I think Secret Garden’s burger is the King of them all!

You’ve tried? Really really good… Must go back again one of these days. Join me, your treat…of course! Muahahahahaha!
