Rantings, ravings & ramblings of a rollicking mind

Déjà vu…

It was certainly like some kind of a déjà vu considering that we had lunch here in December last year before my daughter left for New Zealand and I took a photo of her then…

Melissa - December, 2009
*recycled pic*

…and the other day, we went there again and like on our previous visit, this time around, I also took a photo of her…

Melissa - November, 2010

Any difference? Not much, I reckon – she still looks more or less the same, don’t you think?

If you may recall, we found the food prices a bit steep then…and on my previous visit which happened to be my second time at the place, I still thought that it was somewhat expensive to go and dine there.

However, I did notice then that they were promoting some quite affordable set lunches, so my daughter and I decided to stop by to give it a try. They have quite a number of choices on their set lunch menu…

Islamic Nyonya Cafe - set lunch menu

…with prices ranging from RM5.90 to RM8.90, served with free keropok (prawn crackers) and acar (pickles) and iced tea…

Islamic Nyonya Cafe - free iced tea

I ordered the sambal chicken with rice (RM5.90)…

…and I must say it was very nice – not too strong on the sambal, just nice, and quite spicy, plus there was so much chicken that I would think it was indeed value for money – not expensive at all.

My daughter had the garlic chicken with rice (also RM5.90) and it was also very nice – something like sweet and sour meat with cloves of garlic in it…

All in all, at such prices and considering the nicer and more comfortable air-conditioned surroundings compared to our regular kopi tiam (coffee shop)…

Islamic Nyonya Cafe, Sibu

…I would think this is a good place to stop by for lunch…and most importantly, the food was great!

I’m sure we’ll be stopping by there again pretty soon to try the other items on the menu. Anybody wants to tag along?

  1. with free drink, it is too cheap leh!!!!usually something like that here will cost rm5.5 or rm6.5, not including drink.

Yalor…iced tea is already RM1.30 in the coffee shops and for RM3.50 – 4.00 at the chap fan places here, they give you so little – a piece or two of what you choose…and you do not get to eat in a nice and comfortable place. Really worth it – will go again! ;)

  2. got diff! hair long dy!! mwahaha! n she look sweeter! :p eih! y so nice one?! free drink n prawn cracker summore!!

You’re observant. She looks happier now after 1 year in NZ – it’s in the eyes. In the 1st pic, she was worried, I guess…about going to a country so far away and also stressed out by the mess those incompetent people in the ministry and her institute were making at that time.

Yes…cheap eh? Really worth the price…

  3. don’t worry, she still look the same. She should have worn the same t-shirt then it’s really a deja vu!

Ya…and wear her hair exactly the same. :D

  4. that sambal chicken with rice looks yummy!

It certainly is… Maybe I’ll try and cook it myself sometime. Yum! ;)

  5. Ha Arthur, the title of this post really gives me a lot of nice feeling, you know what? Back in my secondary while my level of English was last to none, got jeered at from those girl students from the neigboring school for my bad english, then i determined to improve my english and this word ” Deja vu” was one of those difficult words i learn, i remembered i learnt it from i think ” Dione Warwick ” with the same title…hahahha, thanks for the memory.

now back to Melissa, and i have to say this, there is no pictures of Melissa’s that i have seen where she never wore a smile on her face, she looks so pleasant.

Yes, Dionne Warwick’s song…and I’ve a link to a video clip of another song by her in my post – day after tomorrow. Make sure you drop by!

Well, I’m happy when she’s happy, so I try my best to make sure she’s happy…

  6. I was there 2 weeks ago & I agree that this place is value for money!

Only the set lunches though. Their a la carte is pretty pricey… I would not go for those.

  7. Melissa didn’t change at all what kind or brand of preservatives that you gave her to eat? haha. Thought she would look ‘overcooked’ and tanned with all your love and sayang-ing showering upon her. Commonly said in Hokkien sayang the daughter until ‘chow hwei tar’ [overbaked/burnt] kekeke.

No lah…father’s love – cool and soothing one – not that kind of burning love! So hawt! Habis hangus!!! LOL!!! :D

  8. No wonder the teh ‘o’ peng is free. All the waiter needs to do is scoop it fresh from the fountain. ~;) hehe.

Don’t think so… Colour’s not the same. Didn’t check the washroom though – must check it out when I visit the place next… Tsk! Tsk! :(

  9. the price is almost like a price we get at food court in KL. Maybe i should pay a visit there

You should. Very nice… Just don’t order the a la carte…

  10. I thought the title was referring to the album by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Never heard the song by DW. Good place, one more feeding station in July. I noticed the menu had Chinese characters. I’m guessing it’s run by Chinese? A Chinese Islamic place?

I only know Dionne’s and if I remember correctly, it was on her “I’ll never love this way again” album. Yup…the young guy running the place was Chinese – he spoke Mandarin and at first, I thought he was Thai. Dunno much else – only know how to eat!

  11. The promo is too good to be missed,ya…The sambal chicken with rice looks good and appetising

It certainly is. Wouldn’t mind having that again sometime…

  12. I wanna tag along but too far for me la

Check out the zero fares…and hop over! Stay at my place – got spare room, food, transport and tours all free. Where to find this kind of holiday? ;)

    • hahaha, cn stay at my place too at bintangor. but bintangor nt much food leh. kampua got a lot. yum!

Got lah! Got the famous rojak stall – people drive all the way to eat. I hear got one mamak stall very nice too…and long ago when I stopped there for lunch, it was very cheap and very nice… Dunno now.

Ya…I heard people talking – same table at wedding dinner…this teacher from Kelantan said his roti canai very good.

      • oh that roti canai. errr. for me it just roti canai. mwahahhaa . i hv better roti canai here. but maybe that roti canai the best in bintangor kot. very fast selling one. my dad know them n their family. got 5 anak ka… i always wondering, sell roti canai can give eat to 5 children and wife meh ? then must go selling roti canai. hahaha

Oops! What happened? Duplicate comment. Exam over liao lah…so excited online… Muahahahaha!!! :D

      • oh that roti canai. errr. for me it just roti canai. mwahahhaa . i hv better roti canai here. but maybe that roti canai the best in bintangor kot. very fast selling one. my dad know them n their family. got 5 anak ka… i always wondering, sell roti canai can give eat to 5 children and wife meh ? then must go selling roti canai. hahaha

LOL!!! Look down on roti canai seller hor! You’ll never know – he may be so rich! But these people – asal cukup makan, they’re happy already lah – not like the Chinese especially the Foochows. You Foochow? Must be kaya-raya lah? Hehehehehehe!!!! ;)

      • eh pokai one. no money one. who said foochow kaya? hahahah. for me as long as i dun kena hujan got food eat good liao. so simple. LOL! well, i just shocked ma, roti canai can feed 5 children and wife, and car and house. must be rich. well, his roti canai very fast selling one, if late habis liao. so maybe that why he got the money . hehehe. my dad said, roti canai raw cost is low, thats why too. hahaha.yeah finish liao. too happy till cnt sleep. hahahaha.

  13. No change~ Still so cute XD

Humph!!! Now, where’s my shotgun??? Muahahahaha!!!! :D

  14. 5.90 for set lunch with drink is CHEAP! And portion looks big too! Definitely value for money.. I wanna tag along! :P

Come! Come! Invitation’s open to you and Saucer too – spare room available at my place plus free food, transport and tours! Where to find a holiday like this? ;)

  15. Gosh… NZ is really agreeing with Melissa… she’s looking more radiant than last year… and she’s looking more and more like a teacher too!

Anytime better than the hellhole in Sg Petani – no food, cannot cook, miserable non-ventilated room, dilapidated furniture and everything…and the insects that come on hot days to bite and leave sores all over the body…not convenient to go to town or the nicer eating places and the dirty food stalls across the road. In NZ, her apartment’s right in the city – can buy food from supermarket and cook her own or eat at any of the nice eateries around… If only the weather could be kinder there.

Ya, where have you been all day? Thought you’re boycotting me for some reason… :(

  16. wow it really looks the same… the seat, the background… good thing she didn’t wear the same dress and head band huh….

Wah! You’re so observant! Even the headband, you noticed. LOL!!! ;)

  17. Reasonable price and looks nice also!

Yes, no doubt about that! ;)

  18. i went there for lunch a few weeks ago. the set lunch are reasonable but the ala carte a bit expensive. i dont mind going there for lunch once in a while. see u soon STP…cheers!

Wah! Long time, no see! After kahwin, so sibuk already kah? Ya…and the a la carte items may not even be nice. Yup, c u…

  19. Yes, Melissa still look the same, still look so sweet and pretty. Only things different is now her hair grow longer or is still the same length and she tie it up?

Looking at your rice, make me hungry. Want to go for my lunch shortly.

Bon appetit! She’s still the same – except perhaps a little chubbier in the face and no worries in the eyes unlike that time before she went. Real stressed out!
