Rantings, ravings & ramblings of a rollicking mind

That was then, this is now…

“Have you got your summons?”

“Yes, I have. Sigh! Now I will have to fork out the money to pay the fine!”

LOL!!! That’s simply a figure of speech – when people receive wedding invitations from family or friends.

In the past, the invitation cards were simple. In fact, some restaurants would even include them in their dinner package but of course, if you wanted something nicer, you would have to go and look for your own and get them printed yourself. Some printing presses would have some samples for you to choose, so you could just pick the one you liked.

This was the one I had for my wedding…

Wedding invitation - then

…but that was then.

These days, they have such beautiful wedding invitation cards, some even with their photos inside or in front like this one…

Wedding invitation - now 1

…or this one, which also has a nice golden ribbon around it.

Wedding invitation - now 2

Well, times have changed. Don’t you think that the invitation cards are so much nicer now? They probably would have to spend a lot more on the cards alone.

Whatever it is, when it comes to weddings, I guess this is the most important thing…

Wedding invitation - now 3

What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” (Mark 10:9)

Whatttt???You mean you get these pretty cards? WTF… my friends invited me VIA FACEBOOOKKKK! FAAACEEEBOOK and asked me to RSVP. Some even SMS-ed their invitations.

On a more serious note, yes… what’s important is not just the wedding and the whole nine yards, but that part with ‘for as long as we both shall live, til death do us apart…’

For better or for worse… Aiyor! So kesian u – only invited via Facebook and sms? Like that, no “summons”, so no need to pay “fine” lor… Forget about all the traditional practices since they are not bothered to observe and do things properly.

    • cleffairy said:

No kidding wan leh… so far received 2 invites via SMS and 1 via FB. So modern, hor? Sometimes, I really wonder if they’re really getting married… lol.. you kno… I’m not sure if I can take invitation thru facebook seriously. Who knows it’s a joke? SMS still ok la… call back den confirm, if that feller really close friend, den really dun nid the card la, save them the troubles to deliver the card and the wedding kuih to me.. but FACEBOOK? Uh… I dun think FB is an appropriate channel to invite ppl to your wedding. Sorry… I’m not that modernized!

Usually they post on FB well ahead of time…to let you know, so you can KIV, make arrangements, make yourself available and what not…and then when the time draws closer, they will send you the invitation card. Otherwise, you wait till the last minute – people already committed to other things…especially with the airlines – this offer, that offer, people book tickets to fly next year even….. Too bad if your big day is at the same time.

  2. waaa! pretty card, and you still keep yours ? hehehe. sentimental man eh .. hehe

Yup…I still have a few of mine and I even have one stuck in one of those old-time stick-on photo albums.Sentimental eh? Hehehehehe!!! ;)

    • cleffairy said:

Hey, goldflower86… I notice you’re also a night owl. LOL. I’m awake… uh… I mean, i’m still awake, like you. Where are you from? Are you burning the midnight oil, or you’re not in Asian timezone? Considering you responded to my article at odd hour… :P

Ya…I think she’s not in our part of the world, hence the time difference. Dunno where she’s from – no clues in her blog. LOL!!! :D

      • cleffairy said:

Exactly, no clues… but one thing for sure… she knows Chinese… o.O So I assume she’s Asian?

Probably somebody from here, migrated…gone to live overseas. I said her name must be “Kim Hua” (gold flower)… Hehehehehe!!!

      • i am from pluto, hence the time difference xD

No lah…you’re from Venus. Women are from Venus, men are from Mars. That’s why men are so sweet – re. Mars bars! LOL!!!

      • aish, cnt edit comment ar? not sure how to use this wordpress. lol. my name is not kim hua . lol.

I don’t think you can. Only the blog owner can do that. What do you want to edit? ;) I guess it isn’t… I’m merely translating gold flower into Hokkien. I think some Chinese girls have that name – Kim Hua…Kim Choo…Kim Lian… All golden! LOL!!! :D

  3. Wow! What very lovely wedding invitation cards. This is the sort of cards that you will like to keep as a memento. Btw, I have’t receive mine yet but I have booked the tickets and everything else! haha!

You haven’t? You’re sure you gave the right address? Good grief! It takes less than a week for mails to arrive in Oz and NZ – faster than sending something via snail mail from here to KL or even Kuching. Maybe delayed due to the wild weather, hail and strong winds…and so very cold right now in Melbourne even though it’s almost the end of winter…???

  4. Haha I think I still prefer old skool type.

You do? You want to borrow mine and use as sample when you go and get yours printed? Muahahahahaha!!!! Ya, sometimes it’s good to upkeep the traditional practices…and I bet they’re a lot cheaper too… ;)

  5. cleffairy said:

Wait… scratch that. She just started the blog… on wordpress, no less… and somehow, I have a hunch that she’s someone we know, going incognito and prolly trying to fiddle around with wordpress (you see, she knows all the issues going around in blogsphere, that means she’s no noobie)… and she’s not necessarily a lady too…

And… thru her writing…assuming that goldflower86 is a lady… she’s doing some soul searching too…. sending reminders to herself… re: Serenity Prayers… and i wonder if she read books from the authors of ‘Outlive Your Life’. She is also probably in her twenties.

*dies* Kenot stop… send me back to investigative journalism, please! *HORRIFIED*

Ok…go and investigate and when you’ve discovered who she is, let me know. By George, she could even be you!!! *pengsan!!! Double trouble! Muahahahahaha!!!! :D

    • cleffairy said:

Not me…really, not me…I can’t afford another blog… hahahaha… having my cleffairy.com and the wordpress wan and also my noveling blog is oredi troubling me. LOL. I’ll go cuckoo if I write another one!

WordPress blogs are free bah… No need to pay one. Huh? Not cuckoo yet kah? I thought long time already? Muahahahahahahaha!!!! *ROTFLMAO!!! :D

      • cleffairy said:

Cis… jahat betul. Not so cuckoo yet la… just abit of scroo loose in the head. Needs to tweak abit den will be ok liao. LOL.

Hahahahaha!!! Maybe writers like that. My daughter also says I’m sikit punya gila – but she finds it hilarious! Hehehehehehe!!!! ;)

  6. cleffairy said:

And so far, she visited Claire’s blog, my blog, your blog and also Kat’s blog. She also likes to read, and quite well versed in many things, and yet she din bother with grammar and whatnot. HMMMMMM…. intriguing.

Ahah! She’s a MALAYSIAN. She knows the phrase ‘tegakkan benang yang basah’.

Gosh! I dunno that… So, I’m not Malaysian, Ms Holmes? Hahahahaha!!!! Not bothered with grammar kah? Must be a guy then… Men not particular about such things, true or not? ;)

    • cleffairy said:

Aiks? You dono that peribahasa kah? Tsk tsk tsk… you must daydreaming in your BM classes when you’re young. Tsk. Apa you buat in class ah, Cikgu? Kacau female classmates ah? LMAOOO!

Ooi!!! In my time, where got BM classes? We changed the medium of instruction from English in the 80s when I had already started teaching…and I had to kelam-kabut learn the language to teach Geography – and at the time, they could not even decide whether to call it Ilmu Alam or Geografi. Just about showed how their minds worked! Tsk! Tsk! :(

  7. chocolatefrogstar said:

I’m with Alex. I love traditional wedding invitation cards. Everything about them conveys the occasion beautifully; the colour, language, gold prints and eleborate festive motives on the cover.

The modernised ones sorely lack this kind of classic feel. Like some would say, wow, doesn’t look like a wedding card ! Depending on how you look at it, it can be a compliment or like me, mourning how young couples are hastening the demise of our traditional practices.

Ya, red and gold symbolise good luck and fortune…but I received some that are not red in colour, not even pink – creamy even! I guess these days, people are not so concerned about all the traditions and customs. As the post title goes, that was then, this is now…

  8. Wah masuk blog liaw! LoL!

    Very subtly… Hehehehehehe!!!! ;)

  9. wow…so nice!! Mine is the normal one with a dragon and a phoenix! last time taking wedding pictures way before the wedding day is a taboo, hor? nowadays..wow.. so nice.. and of course, the pricing is also nice.. lol…

Same as mine – also dragon and phoenix with lots of double happiness characters. Yes, not allowed to see the bride in her wedding dress before the wedding… Photo taking in the studio right after the wedding. I think around RM100 plus only – these days, I hear can go up to over RM2K…. No wonder everyone’s going into professional photography…

  10. kpgnangkaboy said:

Wah…. who’s that guy in the 3rd photo? So hansem la……. lol!

Dunno who… The guy I know not much hair – this one hair so long and curly some more! Hehehehehehe

    • Haha…that’s why we have hair stylists! Maybe a whole of hair spray + mousse + wax was used, which maybe then resulted in even more hair loss!

LOL!!! True….true…! The aftermath! Look good for a while…face the consequences later!

  11. Stella, I think your invitation was posted last week…….or it will be given to you when you are in Kuching……I don’t remember which now, cause mum is very fickle-minded.

Ok…Stella, take note. No summons…no need to pay fine! Even better! Just thick-thick skin, show up at the banquet. Hehehehehe!!!

    • Still not in the mailbox. But never mind, I planned to gate-crash anyway! :) !

Hahahahahaha!!! Wait till winter ends…then the postman will come. LOL!!! Like Sibu, rainy days…no sign of them at all if raining…and in the end, I’d get all the overdue bills – have to pay fine!

      • I just checked with my mum, she said sent already.

Ok, Stella…can start singing the Carpenters’ “Wait!…Wait a minute, Mr. Postman…!!!” LOL!!!

  12. Honestly, your card does not look that cheap either – Gold Prints =) My wedding card which is less than a year old was partially printed by the restaurant too. We took this economical option but we did make sure that the contents were presentable. I like the message of this post. It concurs with the theme of our Engagement Encounter: ‘A wedding is just a day, A marriage is a lifetime’

Yup…of course, should try and make it as memorable as possible but at the end of the day, it all boils down to that one most important thing.

  13. Everything is so damn fancy now. :D

Progress… Last time, no computers…now can do anything, just fork out the dough.

  14. TheOtherCousin said:

Hehehehe we always grin, raise our eyebrows and in soto voce goes “but woman can” whenever we hear the Gospel of Mark 10:9 used at wedding ;-) hahahaha

Ummmm…….>.< LOL!!! The other sceptic smsed me – if the bride wears red to symbolise happiness, why does the groom wear black? Hehehehehehe!!! I didn't! I wore light blue – something old, something new…something borrowed, something blue – that's the western tradition.

    • kpgnangkaboy said:

No prizes for guessing who the other sceptic is….hehe. Well, I did try looking for a red suit but they insisted it didnt match my skin tone. So i opted for a red tie instead…lol.

Thank goodness you took the advice. Throw in a white beard and you’ll look like Santa Claus! Muahahahahahaha!!!! :D

  15. Leo’s getting married? WOOHOO!

    Finally… Hehehehehehe!!!

  16. nice card! :D eh yea how come ppl called it as summon huh?? im so blurr when my aunt came n wanna gv us the card n said to my mom ” nah, next month got to pay fine dy! ” n when i opened it n see, nice invitation wedding card! :D

I guess it’s just a joke…from God knows when, so very long ago. When you get invited (summoned), you must give ang pao (fine) mah… LOL!!! :D

  17. Wow!!Sir, of all nice wedding cards you have, you posted mine in your blog??!!

And you still kept mine? Thank you so much!! I’m deeply honoured & touched!! HAHAHAHAHHAHA

I’m with you sir. Nowadays people spends way too much moo-lah on weddings. Take for example the one I’m attending in PERTH coming SEPTEMBER. LOL!! poor Q and you should hear the ooohhh and aaahhh from my wife when she received their wedding invitation.

    Have a nice break sir!!

    Cheers & regards

Oh? He has a nice one? Come! Come! Take some photos using ur DSLR and post on Facebook for me to see. He didn’t send me one… :( I guess it’s because I cannot attend… Everybody wants that same date – if it had been in October or later (no more tuition classes), I would have gone. Too expensive to just fly over for one weekend – I would want to tour around Perth as well, never been there….. So nice of you to take the trouble to go and attend, bet he appreciates that…

Ya…I could not attend yours as well as at the time, my mum was in hospital (SMC). Would have loved to be there… Of course, I will keep – got your wedding photo mah! Last time people used to take in photo studio and give to relatives and friends – keep in photo album. Same lah…now invitation cards already have photos, so keep lor… ;)

  18. Summons? aka red bomb lolz. So the law or rule is no ‘summons’ no need pay fine, sms, facebook, twitter, email not considered summons? haha..

Yalor… Ang pao is also traditional, so if people choose not to observe tradition, no need to give ang pao lor…. Sekaligus semua buang! Right or not? ;)

  19. I would prefer wedding invitation card with no photos..cos after the wedding date people will just throw them away in the dustbin…sso sad to see..I still keep some nice cards.
when my old man saw KNB card..he said ..he really looked like Uncle P…of course lah..his son lol.

Yalor…especially the curly hair! He used to keep his hair short… Maybe he’s letting it grow for the wedding. Those with photos, have to keep lah… I will keep – next time, if kahwin…have to invite back. Not me, of course! Muahahahahaha!!!! ;)

  20. Beautiful wedding invitation card!! During my time, i don’t think got this “canggih” type, mine just very simple and normal. :(

Your time? Not that long ago leh? You’re so young… Not like me! Ancient! Hahahahaha!!!

  21. I kept mine nicely too. I love things simple but elegant (wow…) hehehe ;-) I never put my our wedding photo in the card ‘coz I was worried that people might just throw it after some while!

I guess some people would but not me… People’s photos, sure must keep for remembrance one! ;)

  22. Haha…and the first few sentence had me thinking that you are being summoned by the court of law. I am wrong. It is about wedding.

Wow, you are already invited for a lot of weddings. As for me, I am still waiting for anyone to invite me (fingers crossed). Wedding invitation cards transformed eh? This blog post of your is like a walk through history.

Haiya…too bad I’m already married, otherwise I can invite you! Muahahahahaha!!!! Well, old people like that lah…lots of history to tell – last time like this, last time like that! LOL!!! ;)

    • Haha…yah. But you can have another wedding. Maybe as a marriage anniversary perhaps? Just a suggestion. ^_^ Then you invite me.

Lots of history? No problemo my friend. I am interested in history. :-D

Ya? For my golden wedding jubilee? Still 20 years to go – dunno can live that long or not… :(

  23. Pollie.. that is because Jeff has never seen my dad. Take another look. He really looks like my dad in that photo. i guess that is saying those two brothers look very much alike!

Yup…the resemblance in their looks is obvious, but bodywise, takes after me…unfortunately. Muahahahahaha!!!!

  24. Ok what! Look at all those beautiful cards… sometimes still absolute nice to look at the cards. Like cleffariy I received wedding invitations through facebook now. So sad I tell you.. it is like people no longer make the effort to invitation cards anymore! Tsk tsk!

Yalor…if for breakfast, lunch, dinner or supper, ask via Facebook…ok lah! Some people do that – save money on smses or calls, I guess. But this once in a lifetime thing, should put in a little bit of effort to make it a bit special…

    • Yalor… this people like looking at their wedding like a game to play like that tsk tsk.

Don’t seem to take it seriously… Maybe that’s why all the break-ups nowadays? ;(

  25. nowadays got wedding e-cards. I’d received two wedding e-cards from my friend and i need to print it if i attend and reply back the email for RSVP.

Good grief! I will just delete… So impersonal like last time, people say must not type letters to friends, very rude. Now all via email… Times have changed!

  26. Erm erm.. my wedding card looked a bit like yours wor.. LOL! Don’t believe it spending too much on cards as they mostly end up in bins anyway! But sure, times have certainly changed!

Very wise indeed… Of course, everybody wants something special but should draw a line at being exploited by certain parties going all out to cash in on such happy occasions.

  27. wondering later some software house will do online reservation and money transfers for wedding. the wedding e-card only will be printed after the payment transaction is completed. hahahahhaha

Pay ang pao…like paying bills online. Chesh! I wouldn’t bother to respond at all…

  28. cleffairy said:

LOL… actually, all writers got a bit of ‘scroo’ loose in their head…and yea… I find it funny too… I mean…we have the privilege to experience first hand on how Ally McBeal feels. LMAO.

Oooo…I love Ally McBeal. Have the vcds – 1st 3 seasons, I think. Too bad I don’t have the complete set… Loved the one where Josh Groban sang “To where you are”…so sad! My daughter loves the series too…

  29. Hahhaaha.. yeah.. i frequently hear the term ‘summon’ in such conditions as well. XD But well, it does bear half the truth though…

Beautiful designs on the cards ;)

Yup…symbolically, it is in essnce the same. Your 1st time here, I see? Welcome and do come again… I clicked your link but could not get to your blog – “blogger not found”. Perhaps you have typed your url wrongly?

  30. im going to have a very simple invitation card for my wedding in October…….no need to put my hansem face on the card LOL!

Haiya…just when I thought I could get your autograph on your invitation card photo. LOL!!!

  31. hahaha… i thought u kena summon from police…

recently, a lot police around to stop people who make mistake while driving.

oh… this summon har… happy for you :P and congratz to ur friend as well.

Thanks on his behalf. Me? Aiyor…I’m such a goodie-goodie person one! Always keep to the rules – a clean record in over 30 years. Good! Good! Catch all of them and fine them – everyone should drive safely and carefully!

  32. wow… i never had a chance to receive a wedding invitation… but i always attend wedding of my friends even though i am not invited hahaha
anyway, i guess you are right about wedding… wedding is scared and both partner should do their best not to break their promise in front of the alter/…
    happy blogging my friend

Aiyor…not invited? Gate crashing kah? Blush! Blush! Hahahahaha!!! Wow! You’re so young and your friends are getting married? When is your turn? Let me know ahead of time…and I can try to make a trip over to the Philippines to attend. Hehehehehe!!!! ;)
