“What’s it all about, Alfie?” This is one of my favourite Burt Bacharach & Hal David’s classics…
…but this post isn’t all about the song. It’s just that the other day, I went for lunch with a blogger-friend by that same name and also Ryan who’s in Russia, studying to be a doctor and is presently home for the summer holidays.
I got to know Alfie through our blogs and it turned out that he’s the son of some very old friends of mine….ummmm, actually, by “old”, I mean…but wait a minute, and that too, I guess! ROTFL!!! Ryan was in my Literature class at one time but somehow somewhere along the way, he dropped out and I never saw him again…until we got reconnected recently via Facebook.
I am not going to give the details of where we went for lunch as I had posted on it many times before, so I’ll just share some of the photos that I look and you can drool over them.
We had an assortment of roasted stuff which included roast duck and roast chicken…

…and more roast chicken…

…and we also had roast pork…

…and char siew (barbecued red meat)…

…and Chinese sausage…

…and roasted pork ribs.
I’ve been having the stuff so often as my house is close by, so you would not hear me shouting about it…but perhaps, it would be a treat for the deprived “Russian” among us and I certainly enjoyed the great company. We actually sat there and chatted, bantered and joked till way past lunch hour, just imagine that.
Anyway, getting back to the song, what I really love about it is the lyrics. See what you think of it…
What’s it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What’s it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Alfie,
then I guess it’s wise to be cruel.
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie,
what will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there’s a heaven above, Alfie,
I know there’s something much more,
something even non-believers can believe in.
I believe in love, Alfie.
Without true love we just exist, Alfie.
Until you find the love you’ve
missed, you’re nothing, Alfie.
When you walk, let your heart lead the way
and you’ll find love any day, Alfie, Alfie…
Nice, eh?…..Have a lovely weekend, everybody!

i like the song..
how nice of u to share with us. gosh awal pagi show roasted pork!!! T.T
You like? Ah!!! You’ve got good taste then. I don;t think many young people these days would like songs like this one…and the lyrics are nice too, don’t you think? Ya…meat, meat, meat…and on a Friday, my no-meat day. Lead me not into temptation…
U r leading us into temptation instead.. lol… look at those succulent meat!! Gosh, I am so hungry now, it is 8am and i wonder who will go out breakfast with me… i thought there would be results to yesterday’s post but now I am
“swallowing saliva” endlessly instead!!
LOL!!! Yan of yanonsecondthought.blogspot.com called me to ask me where I had all those… She was drooling away too! LOL!!! The results? I posted that already last night – re. Alex’s comment. D is a boy…
Wow, enough temptations there for five mortal sins. I was listening to the Wynners today in my car, my favorite is ‘No Money No Talk’ (although technically, I think it’s a Sam Hui song). Anyway, was just speculating to myself when that title might surface in one of your posts. Knowing Sibu, I imagine it wouldn’t be too hard to come up with something.
Well, you can get these there easily – bet there are lots of Hongkong restaurants around but of course, you will need to pay a lot more. Hehehehehehe!!! *evil laugh!
I think I know the song. The theme song of the Hui Brothers’ movie. I usually stick to titles of English songs…
Need to pay more and not the same flavour. The Cantonese here don’t have the same taste buds as their compatriots in Malaysia. And they’re lazy. They cut the char siew into such big chunks you don’t enjoy them anymore. Well, I think it’s a hybrid song, half English half Cantonese — a real masterpiece IMO, although one can say it’s almost a parody of Crocodile Rock.
Well, beggars can’t be choosers… You’ll just have to be happy with those till you come home again…and we can go out mam-mam some more. Next year, I guess?
I like all of the above food but not for breakfast… really “fei sei ngor” (fattening in cantonese). Hahaha…
No problem for me… Damage already done, beyond redemption already. Hahahaha!!!
wah….those roasted pork will make a very satisfied lunch for me! Have you tried roasted pork eating together with white bread? My uncle uses those ‘Hainanese white bread’ and put the pork in between (like sandwiches) and eat together with a cup of kopi O. He said very nice. But I don’t like it. ^_^
Hainanese white bread? Steamed ones…like the skin of steamed paos/meat dumplings? We call them mantao here…and actually, I have a post on that coming up – the one after tomorrow’s (on Sunday). Dunno if that’s what you’re talking about…and you can see what I stuffed inside. Hehehehehehe!!!
Roast pork is my favourite. Not really into BBQ pork.
I love the all….. Muahahahahaha!!!!
Bought some roasted chicken for my kids lunch today….busy, no time to cook!
Ya…sometimes, it’s nice to have a change also…
Love this song!!
Ya, we’ve got good taste…and I always thought nobody sings Bacharach better than Dionne…but there’s this guy – Ron Isley who does a really good version of the song. Can’t post his video clip as embedding has been disabled. You have to check it out on youtube… Real good! I think he was in the Bacharach-David tribute concert too…
You know what, i didn’t know got sell roast pork! hahahhahahahha.
The roast duck and roast chicken look good, look very juicy.
The coffeeshop nearby your house? That side got coffeeshop meh?
Delta Mall area lah! Pedada side… Mei Le Cafe. The grumpy brother has a stall in the coffee shop opposite Public Bank in the town…and there are a number of other places. I like the ones at Lot 10 (Ramin Way) but parking there is always a hassle…
Ooppppss….i mean i didn’t know in Sibu* got sell roast pork!
Got lah! Many places…..some nicer than others. There’s a place, kampua with roast pork – I’ve yet to go there to try. They say very nice!
bought tickets to see Dionne few wks ago at the new convention centre so was so upset she postponed her concert n we get refunded, still hoping she is coming……..’the ‘lak turng’ in Sibu still the best!
Oh…how disappointing? Lak turng? You mean the lap chiang – the Chinese sausage? These are very nice – nicer than Taiwan sausage which seems to be a craze in Kuching and elsewhere. Not that crazy over that – like steamed or pan-grilled lap chiang. Give me the German ones anytime… Hehehehehehe!!!!
hohoho. Nice of you to name the post after me *paiseh paiseh*…. NOT! lolz!
anyways, I have the version from Barbra and also Joss Stone. Talk about being so full of myself, listening to songs that are titled Alfie. wuahahaha. Oh yea!! Try the one from Lily Allen!! Now, that song is more like me!
Lily Allen? Not a fan… Hers is a completely different song, right? And Joss Stone…Eyew! Absolutely ruined it with all that rapping! Well, more suitable for young people. Barbra’s ok…but I still prefer Dionne…and you should try Ron Isley’s. Very nice…. Yalor..you where got know how to paiseh one – skin thick like lembu’s…or is it because of all the fat underneath? ROTFLMAO!!!
*shoots stp in the back * >=D
wuahahaha! lolz
Ohhhhhhh???? You do that, Fie??? Oooooo….!!! @.@ Muahahahahahaha!!!!
God is merciful. LOL… I’m having laksa penang while reading this post… so the roasted stuff…not so much effect on me! LOL. The roasted chic looks really tempting eh?
Just look at the meat…it’s so juicy, so succulent…and it’s calling, “Cleff!…Cleff!…Cleff!!!” Hahahahahahaha!!!!
*sulk* My oven kaboom liao. So cilaka… else I would roast some chic for supper!
So long already… Haven’t bought a new one kah? Mine also…not so good but it’s old -since around 87/88… Baking ok…but if grilling, smoke comes out! Scared!!!
No wonder. I thought those roast products look a lot like the one opposite Public Bank. I would have sworn it is.
They’re brothers…but this one is very nice, not so grumpy. Tried the ones at Lot 10? Nice! Problem is…so hard to find parking…
I just can’t resist the chicken skin^^
Me too! And duck too – Peking duck! The crispier the better! Yum!
Thanks STP, Now i know what to eat for my tomorrow lunch. haha…
…and I can guess what exactly you’re be having. LOL!!!
LOL! What could be better than being surrounded by great companions, good food and lovely song(that song is really nice)…
Have a wonderful weekend!^-^
Yes, true…true!!! Ya, nice song…and I particularly love the words.
Hahaha
I cannot tahan when you said…this is not about song…of course if is never about song…it is about makan.
No leh…”it’s not ALL about the song” I did touch on the song, the lyrics… Can’t blame me if you did not pay attention to that/are not interested… Hehehehehe!!!
the roast pork is making me hungry. had not touch any pork for the last 4 days at langkawi
LOL!!! There is pork in Langkawi what…
