Rantings, ravings & ramblings of a rollicking mind

Still the same…

Well, not exactly as they have done some renovations and McD’s now bigger…and the eatery on the opposite side – A Taste of Asia as well. We went to the latter for a bite and my missus had their Penang assam laksa

LCCT Penang laksa

…while I had their chicken rice…

LCCT chicken rice

I don’t know if hers was any good but she kept telling me that a doctor in the Sibu General Hospital was always singing its praises and she would insist on having that every time she took a flight at the LCCT. As for my rice, the most that I can say about it is that it was edible.

But…omigawd!!!! Just look at the flies!

LCCT flies 1

It certainly seems that they are really giving visitors an authentic taste of Asia – including all those pesky insects to boot! It certainly reminded me of those fly-infested food stalls across the road from the teacher-training institute in Sungai Petani, Kedah…

LCCT flies 2

I don’t know how much the two food items cost as my wife went to buy and paid for everything. She did say, however, that altogether, it was over RM20.00, inclusive of two drinks. Expensive eh? Well, don’t expect anything cheap at any Malaysian airport. The only thing cheap is the airport itself…

It was hot, VERY hot…and there were limited seats for passengers waiting for the counters to open so they could check in. I really wonder why they cannot have common check-in at any counter like MAS. After all, they do have online check-in and also check-in kiosks. Thankfully, there is a drinking fountain…so poor passengers who cannot afford to buy the expensive drinks at the food outlets there would not have to resort to drinking in the toilets or die of thirst. But look at the sign…

LCCT drinking fountain

Why would anybody want to spit or wash their hands in those when the toilet is just two steps away? Oh! I forgot… After all, it’s the Low Class…oops! I mean, Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT)!

And talking about the toilet, I saw this sign inside…

LCCT sign in toilet

Really? Why then did I hear endless announcements calling for this fella and that fella…alongside those announcing the flight delays? I’m surprised that they do not just take off and leave those recalcitrant passengers to buy a new ticket and catch the next flight. After all, I hear they do that to those who check in late. As for the sign itself, I don’t think I need to elaborate on the English…and the punctuation, do I? Tsk! Tsk!!!

I also wondered why there was still this mad scramble to get on board the aircraft now that passengers could pay for their choice of seats or be allocated one at random. I guess as they say, old habits die hard!

And talking about the aircraft, the rattling and the vibrations as it took off were quite nerve-wrecking…and the mechanism to draw in the wheels was extremely loud – sounding like those automatic doors in the villain’s underground hideout in one of those Hongkong-produced Shaw Brothers’ spy movies in the 60s. The aircraft looked very new but if you think you can recline your chair into a more comfortable position, forget it! The one that I flew in, I think a number of the buttons were broken…so most of the passengers had to sit upright all the way. Thank goodness it was only for two hours!

I bought the food available on board the flight so that I could post on  it. You can get this nasi bryani for RM9.00…

Air Asia nasi bryani

…or the nasi lemak for the same price…

Air Asia nasi lemak

According to my missus, the nasi bryani wasn’t very nice. I had the nasi lemak and it was o.k. At least, there were some pieces of chicken compared to this one that I bought for RM1.80 at 7-Eleven…

7-11 nasi lemak

Cooking4STP was asking on Facebook whether they sell water/drinks as she will be using the airline from Perth next month. Well, a bottle of mineral water costs RM4.00…and do not expect the usual small bottle that we usually see at the grocery stores and supermarkets. The ones they sell are around 75% of that size. Ah well…something’s better than nothing and it sure beats drinking the water in the toilet! ROTFLMAO!

  1. War…so many flies. :p

haha :D Well…those reminders serve as a what..reminder so that they will not be later? :p

Ya…all over the place. So typical of an Asian Third World Country!!! Such a disgrace! Not that it was some cheap bus station in a desolate village or town…

  2. Er.. you mean you had those food at A Taste of Asia and ordered again in the plane? Ha, ha, I love the way you enjoy food.

That was earlier… We were there from 2 something – hotel extended check-out time 1 p.m….and only reached home at 10 something at night. All in all some 8 hours – so exhausting! Still recuperating from the ordeal…

  3. The nasi lemak was not bad (i mean the inflight nasi lemak), i took it before, provided they havent change the cook la.. anyway, beggars cant be choosers, not many choices up there.. we have to eat or go hungry…

It was ok, not bad… Actually I wanted to try some of the other things on the menu – all not available, so no choice – had to settle for the nasi lemak.

  4. People scramble and fight to get to the head of the queue because they want to fill up all the space in the luggage compartment, nothing to do with the seat allocation. If you noticed, mostly are those who carry a lot of hand carries (I said mostly) AND because of that, the rest of the passengers cannot store their luggage anymore. In the end, EVERYONE is fighting to get on board first.

Well, since January 2010, they have implemented the 1 hand baggage policy of not more than 7 kg – they kept announcing that over the PA system. But I did notice some with more than one…and some hand baggage that certainly looked like they were more than 7 kg…and they actually got away with it. Malaysia boleh! They should be very strict about these things like airports overseas…

  5. after been to LCCT so many times, I actually have not eat at Taste of Asia. It’s small and packed as always. Lazy to look for seats so I settle for McD.

Both are bigger now… They’ve extended them since the last time I was there in 2007 or 2008. Both are still crowded but it is not impossible to find seats, unlike before. But I wouldn’t want to linger once I had finished eating…not just because of the flies and also the commotion all around. At KLIA, I would sit for hours at KFC…and could even do my marking (sometimes, I bring my work along when I travel). It’s not so crowded and the people there never bother you no matter how long you hang around.

  6. its cheaper when you buy the inflight food online-when u make your booking.n they will give you a complimentary cup of skyjuice.

Normally I do not bother to eat. After all, the flight’s only two hours…but I ordered that day to see what the food was like.

Hehe….. they just want to remind you that its a “BUDGET” airline.
Did you see many Banglas and Indons in LCCT?

Not really. In fact, that day, I saw a lot of ang mohs around…

    • KpgNangkaBoy said:

Oh yeah….. i think the Banglas and Indons were in Singapore for the opening of the new casino. Read from the newspaper that the casino was filled with migrant workers queueing for free drinks and some were even sleeping on the casiono floors. Hahaha.

Heard they were the Singaporeans – typical kiasu…wanna get their 24 hour’s worth out of the S$100 fee they had to pay to get in…so tired, slept on the floor for a while, refusing to go home. 24 hours not up yet!!! Later got up, gambles some more!

  8. The plane sounds scary with all the faulty buttons. Will the engine stop mid air?

It was ok… Other than the buttons, I think everything else was fine. They’ve even stopped playing the club music inflight, praise the Lord… It was loud and got kind of irritating when you hear, “Burn!…Burn!…Burn!!!” a few times in the flight (I guess the playlist goes round and round…on and on, so you end up listening to the same songs over and over again)…

  9. flies.. crap.. annoying..

the nasi lemak on the flight looks okay to me, not sure about the taste.. =P

Yup…lots of them…everywhere! Will land on your hands, your face… The nasi lemak tasted ok, no complaint about that…even for RM9.00!

  10. I took AirAsia last month too, and chose some sandwiches on flight (not very hungry). At least your nasi lemak looks much better :P Anyway for RM9, apparently it’s considered cheap for airline food… ah well…

Yup…the nasi lemak was some RM12.50 at the hotel where I was staying but tastewise, it was a little bit better…so RM9.00, no complaint lah! LOL!!!

  11. If I can, I would avoid having airlines food. Heard many negative comments about that.

They’re all ok…not horrible or anything, so if somebody is really hungry…and can afford it, they can go ahead and eat. No worries! Look better in the menu though! ;)

    • U kno, kat… last time, when i take airasia… i use to tapau Burger King go up! LOl!

Ooi!!! Outside food and drinks are NOT allowed! Now, this is what we call recalcitrant! *refer Eugene’s comment! LOL!!!

  12. Sigh, terrible grammar… sounded like me when I wrote in the wee hours of the morning and din bother to check. Ahahaha

As i say before, i dun like Airasia… :( not only the service is quite terrible, but I hate the mad rush as well. You’re right, even when people choose to pay for certain seat, there’s still mad rush for it when you get on board. :( And i don’t have to elaborate on food do I? *sigh* I dun like the food that they sold on board as well. So expensive, and most of them are dehydrated.

On the lighter note, gosh, your Missus’s laksa… OMG… mouth watering. Wokehhh, now you’ve dunnit, Cikgu., I’m going out to buy 4 packet of assam laksa to eat. Wakakakakakakaka! 2 for me, two for hubby, and gonna boil some eggs to go wif it to. *drool drool*

Not a fan of Penang laksa…so don’t bother trying to tempt me! LOL!!! :D Well, what to do when all the flights are fully booked? In fact, the three of us went over to KL on the 6th by MAS, the tickets came up to RM600 plus…and our return, just two of us – over RM800, and CNY’s already past!!! So the cheap airline isn’t exactly cheap – you just have to cash in at the right time…and that’s usually months ahead!

    • LOL… not tempting you lah. I just finished eat the laksa… :( Today’s laksa is not nice… so banyak tulang. Sobsobsob! Ended up just eat one bowl, den never tapao go back d. :( They oso dun gv me the prawn paste!!! Bodohnya! No pineapple bits as well. Sien like hell!

Agreed wholeheartedly with your statement. LOL…that stupid cheap airline really isn’t exactly cheap. :( Booked way beforehand, MAS is definitely more worth it. And the plane wun rattle on air oso. i so damn takut during turbulence wif Airasia. :( Bad, bad experience wif em. :(

I would say that the flight in itself was ok…except for the non-reclining chairs that I had…and the hassle prior to boarding and after disembarking. Of course, flying by MAS is more comfortable…but it’s usually a bit more expensive. Well, …want to have class and extra comfort and “free” food and drinks, then we’ll just have to pay for it. :(

  13. fatty oldman said:

u din eat the flies for xtra meat? :D

Nope…I saved them specially for you! Don’t worry! They’re on the house! LOL!!! :D

  14. Comes with free flies!

Everywhere in LCCT all free flies! Taste of Asia’s food didn’t get my attention at all! I still remember my one cup of polystyrene mile for RM5?!

Tsk tsk… ever since then, I have decided if I want to eat, I will eat McD or just check-in the gate and go to Cafe Express. Since everywhere is fly free… least the pastry in Cafe Express is good.

You mean, Milo…for RM5?…Well, I had a glass of iced coffee (black) and a slice of apple crumble at Coffee Bean for RM20!!! The trouble is the counter does not open till 2 hours before take off…and it takes a long while if you’re not right in front of the long queue…so there will hardly be much time left after you’ve checked in – unless you check-in online and you’ll need a printer to print out your boarding pass.

  15. Now i start worry my trip back to Sibu, me alone with two boys and travel by low cost air craft *SCARED* and with super duper early flight @ 6.55am!!!!

This time i didn’t purchase in flight meal and express boarding. :(

Aiya..i should have tell you early that i will look for you, at least u can extend your pick up time till later in the afternoon, at least you don’t being “torture” at the LCCT. hahahahahha

You can check in online and print out your boarding passes…if I’m not mistaken, within 48 hours before departure. Then you only need to be at the airport 1 hour before departure – have to be there by 5.55 a.m. You can deposit your luggage (Hope you paid for that!!! Cheaper if you do it online!) at a special counter when you get to the airport.

You haven’t booked your seats? Better go online and click “manage your booking” to purchase your seats – ordinary seats RM10 each, I think. Otherwise, they will put you all in different seats in different parts of the plane. I’m sure you would want to sit together with your boys. You can also buy your food – maybe your boys would like the doughtnuts or sandwiches plus Milo- too early in the morning for much else. Who knows? They may even sleep all the way…

As for the flight itself, it is all right really – not as comfortable as MAS but definitely a lot better than flying in those small Fokker planes that we have in Sarawak – by leaps and bounds!!!!

P.S. Check-out time was 1 pm and I had booked the cab already at 2…but it came early at 1.30 – that was why we went to the airport so early…and suffered there! Our flight was 1855 hours (6.55 p.m.).

  16. You just reminded a word that i learnt many years ago,”recalsitrant” i remember the word was used by the Aussie government hantaming the then PM… Tun M.

You know,i flew back from JB with AirAsia, i bought the donuts for my two sons, my comment is, i wont take the next bite…

I also learnt the word at that point in time – recalcitrant – with a “c”! LOL!!! The donuts no good? Thought they’re Krispy Kreme – one of those “branded” donuts, not the Malay kampong ones (which probably would taste a lot better)!!!

  17. Eh, ur entry title reminds me of Joey Mcintyre song lah… Stay the Same

Ex-New Kids on the Block!!! LOL!!! Your time, I guess!

  18. I concur! Sibu airport is the worst for a city!

Huh??? Cleff!!!! Another member for your club! Firstly, we’re not talking about Sibu airport…and secondly, Sibu is a town – a SMALL town, not a city! :D

  19. LCCT is damm lousy place. Limited choices for food and limited waiting area. The carpark is open air and there are not walkways to the airport with roofs…..got myself wet during heavy rain although I had an umbrella with me!

I think most airports have car parks in the open with no covered pathways…unless like KLIA, they have parking in the basement. Limited, never mind….expensive, never mind…but ALL THOSE FLIES! The waiting area…something to do with the planning. The sun shines right in…and there’s a “sunroof” right overhead! I did not want to sit there…or I would surely end up with heat stroke! Coolest place at LCCT – the toilet! There’s a fan inside – full blast!

  20. U know…i have this typical Foo chow mindset that i wd rather pay a little extra for a coffee or a milo than RM4 for mineral water…haha…so yeah…i will opt for the drinking water outside the toilet…lol……The LCCT…..anyway are doing a lot of backpackers or budget travelers a great favour…i reckon they are doing just fine (of coz improvements are always welcome)…unless we can get some really good deal with Mas.

I would rather not eat or drink… After all, it’s less than 2 hours from KL to Sibu. If on a longer flight, then perhaps I would eat something…or drink at least! I hear the LCCT in KK is very nice…but I’ve never been there. Was at the new KK airport – very impressive but a white elephant, most of the time so deserted like a haunted house… They were saying that they would move the cheap airline back to the new airport, dunno if they’ve done that yet…or perhaps they’ve changed their minds…

  21. I miss MAS nasi lemak. But the Airasia one is nice as well. I am hungry now in the middle of the night. Nasi lemak, pls?

Hah!!! Now where can you get nasi lemak in the middle of the night? Wait till 4 or 5 a.m. the kampong stalls will be open to cater for those going for morning prayers! LOL!!!

  22. errrr u bought the nasi lemak at 7-E ah? hehehehe when i was still studying there many, many, many moons ago i used to buy nasi lemak from 7-E. it was cheaper then around RM1.20-RM1.50 but i see that they are in plastic containers now…last time they had it wrapped with the brown coloured paper….it taste nice (coz its cheap) hehehe but i would not mind to have it again when im in KL soon, just to remind me of my student years ahhhhhh….cheers folks!

7-11 still has those wrapped with brown paper with a banana leaf inside. Dunno how much they cost – didn’t buy. In Sibu – Bandong, RM1.50 only wrapped with brown paper. Very nice, very pedas…but no chicken! LOL!!!

  23. thanks for the tips!!! I didn’t know now AA no more free seating? They do seat allocation? I thought those who can run faster and can grab the seats? hahahahhahahha….Anyway, i just book my seats, for the food ma, like you said, maybe too early for them to have any food, maybe just buy them some drink, save the tummy for sibu KAMPUA!!!!! Yuhoo!!

I’m so “lulu”, i didn’t know now i can do my check in online??? Have set reminder, will do my check in online 48 hours before departing. Thanks for the tips again. :)

Hahahahahaha!!! When did you do the booking? Thought they would ask whether you want this or that… Good lah! Now that you’ve got all that settled, just wait for the date when I’ll see you all in Sibu….P.S. Btw, to check in online, you need a printer to print the boarding passes. That’s why when I was in KL, I could not do that – just got laptop, no printer in hotel!

  24. fatty oldman said:

i dont ate much meat so u can have it urself to pamper urself

LOL!!! Thought you like all those strange exotic stuff. I’d rather stick to real meat…

  25. [...] Good grief! Boston at the back was quite open…and so were all the coffee shops in town and yet we do not get to see so many flies. Don’t tell me they brought them over from the LCCT in Sepang! [...]
