I think I have already mentioned something about this Kelantan lady in my lontong post recently. She has a hawker stall right next to the surau along Bandong Road, directly opposite the primary school – one with a blue canopy. I dropped by the other day and saw these little packages wrapped in brown paper…

I asked her what was inside and she said pulut (glutinous rice) which was meant to be eaten with her special durian and santan (coconut milk) dip. Instantly, images of the Thai durian-pulut dessert came to mind and so I bought one to try – at RM2.00 each…

Unfortunately, it was nothing like the real thing. In that Thai dessert, you would get real durian with the pulut and thick santan cream over it whereas in the case of this one, there were some bits of durian in the very diluted santan dip that was neither here nor there. I would much rather eat the pulut with kaya (coconut jam) or condensed milk. But then again, what can one expect for just RM2.00?
I bought these kampong-style fried noodles for only RM2.00 too…

…and they were quite nice. She even gave some nasi lemak sambal to go with it. And talking about nasi lemak, she is selling it at only RM1.50 for a whole lot, including half a hard-boiled egg…

They sell it wrapped in brown paper at my regular kuih-muih stall about 100 metres away at that same price but you would get a lot less and only a quarter of an egg. Tastewise, this one’s quite all right…

The rice is fragrant and rich enough as far as the santan flavour is concerned…but the sambal tastes kind of different from that which we usually get with nasi lamak. Not that it isn’t nice, just a little bit different. Still, for that price, I think it is worth it.
Well, it’s Friday today…and the weekend’s here. Hope you all have a great one, everybody!

Good Morning STP!
FC here again.. after a long while…
So..about the pulut, what did u take it with eventually? over here, u can either take the pulut with kaya or curry chicken… there is one stall i love to eat that from…
Nasi lemak… when chinese sells that, it will be costly, say RM2.50..
But malays will normally sell it at 1.00 or 1.20…or 1.50.. see the difference?
I just had it with the durian/santan dip. Ok, but not great!…Nasi lemak here at the coffee shops, RM2.50 and above – hardly any Chinese selling that except maybe in the cafes and those would be even more expensive. This one at RM1.50 is really cheap…and they give a lot!

I like your mouth watering food posts!
I guess most people do. I prefer posting on food as well – not so controversial, more relaxing…

the mee goreng looks nice. I never really like the mee goreng here. when say mee goreng kering, they still give you a soupy mee goreng .. then when you asked for a dry one, they pour out all the kuah .. $%^^&**!
But I like the mee mamak in the hotels there. Don’t like the Chinese mee goreng kering here – bland and all msg!!!

oh .. mamak ones are nice .. I mean the chinese and malay ones here. very seldom you find nice ones. so maybe you’ll just settle for anything else but the mee goreng. he he he.
Can’t remember if I’ve ever eaten mee goreng at the Malay or mamak shops/stalls there, only in the hotels when I went on official duty.

damn i miss those kinda breakfast. ive been too busy lately and all i can have for breakfast is peanut butter sandwich and milk, no time to cook at all. sometimes dont eat at all for the whole day (since my faculty building is quite far from the student union building and the university villate/marketplace so i just skip lunch everytime) and then chinese take away for a heavy dinner. 1 freakin meal a day!!! wtfffff…….already thin, now become thinner. like just came back from africa liddat… hahahaha….
Aiyor…so kesian! Usually, people there have a heavy breakfast, pack a sandwich for lunch…and have a good dinner. Gosh! I hope my daughter would face the same fate when she goes to NZ next year – may just disappear into thin air! Bad enough already now in Sg Patani…

btw, regarding the post, nver knw abt the kelantan lady’s stall. is she new in town ? u must ask her about “budu”, very famous in kelantan. its like somekinda spicy smelly paste but its really really good when eaten with rice. i had a few kelantan frns in college and they always brought for me to eat.
Her husband’s in the army based at K.D.Sri Rejang in Sg Antu. Two of them actually, the other one from Negeri Sembilan. Eeee…you see how I gossip gossip with these ladies! Hahahahahaha!!! Old people like that, I guess. Yes, there was this budu with the Kelantan’s nasi kerabu – nice. smelly…but nice! Something like our budu’ aur, I guess. But the nasi kerabu’s not from this stall – they have it sometimes at the kuih-muih stall 100 metres away – made by another Kelantan lady, the hubby also in the army but they’re from the 10th Mile Oya Road camp. That’s why the nasi kerabu is not always available…

The pulut would taste nice if eaten with lots of durians and santan gravy….yum yum…lemak man! Have a nice weekend STP!
Yes…the way they serve the Thai durian dessert. The first time I had it in Bangkok – I felt like I was in Heaven! So very nice! Hahahahahaha!!! I had that again in Singapore sometime ago, side by side with their mango salad…and I haven’t had it since.

Hmmmm..no comment on the pulut with durian and santan, cannot imagine the taste, because i’m not the durian fans.
The nasi lemak sure look good, i just had one this morning for breakfast, nasi lemak + hot coffee = yummy!!! Burp! Oopppss…hahahhaha
Have a great weekend!
Thanks for the compliment. I’m not a fan of durian either – just durian desserts, rich and sweet! Yum! Yum! Hahahahaha!

Dey, it’s always not a wise decision to come n read your blog during meal times. It’s lunch time now and looking at all those great nasi lemak, fried noodles pics makes me soooo hungry. The way you photograph food, makes them look yummier no matter what they are… haih.. salivating..
Thanks, I just simply take from different angles and then choose the ones I like best. Not really into photography, so dunno what I should or should not do. Ya…certainly works up an appetite for a good lunch, eh? Makes one hungry! Hahahahaha! So what did you have for lunch?

Durian and santan dip? I have never try it before.
War…gonna try this when I visit there….one day.
Not really that great! Better have the Thai durian dessert. They usually have that at Thai restaurants. Otherwise, mango will do fine… Also nice!

Noooo…… nasi lemak and malay mee goreng again.. haha.. been taking it for a few times per week… when it comes to food, shah alam is not known for its choice.. sigh.. haha… but the nasi lemak looks better here. XD
Ya…it depends actually. I had nasi lemak in Penang but I did not think it was really great. Love the one in the hotel but that too – the quality had gone down. Used to be so very nice…but not anymore. Will try the Old Town one in SP – they say it is very nice…

Oh yeah.. Old Town’s Nasi Lemak is very nice.. i like the fragrant rice.. used to go with my friends to the Old Town outlet in SA for it. We ( him anyway ) always order a plate of nasi lemak because it’s really nice and makes a good breakfast XD
I will definitely give it a try this time. The last time I had their curry with rice or something… Ok, but nothing to shout about!
