It was Friday yesterday and I normally do not eat meat on Fridays…as far as possible. But Louis J contacted me just before lunchtime and insisted that I joined him for lunch. In the end, we agreed to go some place where we could have fish…and that was how we ended up at the Red Carrot.
I had the fish and chips…

…which was quite nice, a bit hard but on the whole, it was ok considering that it was RM12 something only for a huge slice of fish…and it did not have any unpleasant fishy smell at all.
Louis J had the grilled imported sardine…

…for only RM8 something. It was BIG…and looked so nice that I regretted opting for the fish and chips.
So, was it nice? I guess this next photograph says it all…

I think I will have to go back there again one of these days…and guess what I will be having! LOL!!!

Fishy goodness!
Ya…fish is good for you, I mean…us! LOL!!!
You should also lick the bones…and the fish head. That’s what I always do when eating fish!
I was not the one eating it! Otherwise, that would be exactly what I would do! The way I would eat it at home! At my age, I am not bothered anymore – I would throw all that crap about being high class and sophisticated (or good-mannered) to the wind! LOL!!!
the fish fillet looked delicious and cheap so!!
It looked cheap? Hahahahahaha!!! I get what you mean. Ya, at 12…it was cheap for a fish and chips dish and it was a generously big slice too. Trouble was I sampled the sardine…and it was juicy and sweet – very very nice! And it is so much cheaper! I would rather have the sardine…
yeap i had fish and chips too ysterday. nicely grilled flake fillet with tartare sauce and chips at the side. it costs $12 also lol!
Hahahahahaha!!! Multiply that by 3.5! You like sardine? We can go there when you come back in December. Gee! You’d better make a list of things to eat and places to go… Hahahahahaha!
I love fish N chips with lotsa mayonnaise… I love sardine too but never tried the grill one like this, it looks healthy! Happy Weekend
You mean sardines in tins? I had ikan panggang – sardine not too long ago. I bought it at my regular Bandong stall but it was a bit smaller…VERY nice too, but cost RM10. This one’s bigger and cheaper… Hope they do not get to read this and increase the price! LOL!!!
He didn’t let you try?
He did! Just a little bit…and it was VERY nice! That’s why I want to go back there again… Anybody out there who would want to take a poor, old pensioner out for a meal? Hahahahahahaha!!!!
RM8 for such a big imported fish….very good price!
It is! Unbelievable! It’s even more expensive at the ikan panggang stalls in the kampung!!!
im having my instant noodle while im looking at the photos….so i end up pretend im having the fish and chip…with lots of gravy (soup)…..nice!!
You still haven’t finished your instant noodles? I can bring some more…but you will have to go and collect them in SP. LOL!!!
fish murder! haha.. =D
DOA….it was d.o.a. – dead on arrival! LOL!!!
Once long time ago,I was having dinner with a group of people. When the whole steamed fish arrived, suddenly this guy stood up in the middle of a conversation ,took his pair of chopsticks, whacked the fish head, sat down n gobbled the whole thing down with gusto!Later I found out he is a fish eyes/head lover! I was so stunned at his action that the whole nite I geared myself anticipating as to what he will do to the next dish! To me,seeing the way he whacked the fish was so action-packed,better than any Steven Seagal’s movies I have ever seen. To this day I am yet to have meals with such an interesting character! LOL!
That guy is obviously an expert at eating fish! The best part is the head and the side – most lemak part! But it depends on the fish! Some have nothing in the head (like people too! Hehehehehe!!!)! Not worth the trouble of trying to find something to eat! LOL!!!
hey, the fish was not fully walloped yet… still got leftover meat.. but it is safer to leave it that way.. never know bones.. they can stick here and there between our teeth or throat.. urgh… btw, I will opt for the sardin too.. RM8 plus is reasonable..
Yalor…that’s what I thought! So sayang! If I were the one eating, you can bet it would be totally clean! Hahahahaha!!! Our freshwater fish – worth their weight in gold – have a lot of small bones (like terubok, also a lot of bones)…so we’re quite good at eating fish. These sardines do not have any small bones, so no problem!!!
nah not a real fan of sardines.i wont’ mind a whole trout tho hhahaha.
only a few places i want to go when im back. those nice kampua stall, the bandung. tats it lol
Ok…so that’s out! And you mustn’t forget your beehive cake… Hahahahaha!!!!
RM8 only? The grilled sardine looked far more delicious than your fish and chips ler.
Yes…it WAS more delicious! There wasn’t any photo of it in the menu…so I did not want to take the risk! SIGH!!!
We know what you are after–>The imported sardine right? I have never seen a sardine cooked this way. I always see them in the can.
I really wonder what you have in Malacca…or is it just you who have never been around? Here, even the Malay kampong roadside stalls, they have sardine or terubok – ikan panggang (BBQ)… Of course, they do not serve it so nicely, and it may not even be cheaper! I bought once – RM10!!!
i would go for the sardine too…still got the head to savour. hehe…
If I were eating that, there would not be much left… LOL!!!
haha…btw, i am studying in Perak, tronoh there… not penang…hehe…from 17 to 22 i got final exams going on, i guess can’t join you then. maybe next time. sorry.
Ok…another time perhaps. Good luck in your exams!
i like grilled fish especially sardine…
got chance i visit u i let u tis me tis fatty oldman can eat 10 of that fish of not…haha
Just come! You can have all you can eat! 100 also ok! LOL!!!
wow I’ve never had the whole sardine by myself! hahah
Nah!!! I’m sure it’s because you don’t want. Some people do not like the smell – like the smell of sardine in the tin…and I bet you can have your choice of better, more expensive fish! Sigh! Some people have all the luck in the world! LOL!!!
Big fish for Rm12 leh, Cikgu. Over here in in my place, they serve measly bits of fish for Rm14++. ;(
Btw, I used to make my own fish and chips for my husband and son every Fridays, but got kinda lazy to cook these stuff afterwards when the brat is constantly climbing around in my kitchen. Bah, humbug!
Ya…much cheaper to cook your own – I think fish fillet around RM8-10 for two huge slices…but sometimes, got some kind of fishy smell. Hah…cherish the times you have with your brat. In a blink of an eye, you’ll be like me – the empty nest syndrome…
Nvm, Cikgu… I’m just 25… lol…still can reproduce… ahahaha…got time and $$ I go make more babies…
got age gap wif one another, den one leave the nest, still got spare tyre…
Clever u…! So go ahead, make more! God said, “Go forth and multiply…!!!” LOL!!!
wah@@ rm8 for such a huge sardine, wow, sure is cheap in sibu..penang sure cannot have ( i think, haha)!
Penang – I know they have very nice ikan bakar (grilled fish) and they have all kinds – stingray and what not but my favourite is black pomfret (ikan bawal hitam)….
[...] my daughter wanted the fish and chips that night but I had that before and did not think it was really anything to shout about. I think the fish fillet plus something [...]
