We grew up together, my brother and I. He’s a year and a half older than me…

My father was a speedboat racer and won numerous trophies over the years. After the race, he would take the boat home and then make his way back to the riverside for the prize presentation ceremony. This was one occasion when he could not make it back in time to receive the trophies, so my brother and I were asked to do so on his behalf.
Did I look sad in the photograph? I remember I was presented with the big one first but it was too heavy, so I got the small one instead. Can anybody recognise the man with the hat – the one helping my brother with the trophy?
This one was taken at our house – No. 96, Race Course Road…

Of course, the house is no longer there. Even the name of the road has been changed to Jalan Awang Ramli Amit. I remember there were two parts to the house – the front with the living room and the bedrooms and the dining room and the kitchen at the back, linked by an open section of the house as you can see in the photograph at the top of the stairs. Eventually, that part was covered up with planks.
Now, did I look unhappy in the photograph? It was as if I was pushing for more space…and don’t you think I looked like that porn video star/politician – Chua then? Hahahahahaha!!!!
This one was taken at my maternal grandma’s house along Queensway…

…since renamed Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg. I didn’t seem to look happy either. Gee! Did I have an unhappy childhood or what?
And here you can see the two of us in leather jackets a la James Dean…

If I’m not mistaken, that was my uncle’s car (Lindy, Kpenyu & Gundot’s father) driving off in the distance, or was it my Aunt Gertrude?
So there you have it – glimpses at yesterday when I was young…

Speedboat race? Wow, that’s cool! I wish they still have this type of race now. So young already wear leather jacket oh. Haha. I never wear one before. LOL.
Ya, can’t remember when they last had a regatta in Sibu…but they hold one every year in Kuching…and regularly in towns like Kanowit and Kapit. Hahahahahaha!!! I wonder how I could stand the heat. Guess it wasn’t so hot then… No global warming.

I remember seeing those photos. Your Mom probably distributed to all the siblings to show what a pair of good looking fellas she had. AND you look like Chua. kakaka!!
I guess family photo albums were the in thing in those days, stacked under the coffee table in the living room to be taken out to show visitors. Aiyor…the least you can say is that I am a bit better-looking! Hahahahahaha!!!!

I didn’t have any childhood picture – lucky you. I think the first photograph I took was during my grandma’s birthday (what age, can’t remember) when I was about 10, and that was in a group of probably nearly 50! Then, it was when I was for the IC…
Precious memories – and you sure looked like a good and quiet boy!
I have a lot. My father was an ardent photographer – Roliflex…or how you spell that! But all of them are still at my parents’ house in the old photo albums. I only have a few with me. Ya…I was good and quiet, now also good and quiet! Hahahahahaha!

Man with hat must be TYT. I remember he had a similar hat. Oooiii…you were mean in your younger days. Used to frighten us with your bark and nasty stares! Your dad scares us too. To all the coz, which one of you is not frighten of Ah Teo!
Maybe that’s why we looked so serious in the photos – no fooling around. Was I so mean when I was young? Thought I was everybody’s favourite cousin/nephew? Hahahahahaha!!!! Ya, that’s Uncle Louis all right…and was that your father’s car in the last photo?

Cute phua chu kang boots…..LOL!
That’s just 1! At least 20 or more at the house – pure silver! Some lousy made-in-India ones as well but already lost their shine, so thrown away… Ya, best in Sibu…and some say Sarawak…. Hahahahaha!!!

wow wow..precious pictures. You and your brother look so cute!
On the third picture, you and your brother hand holding hand, so sweet! At one glance i thought you’re holding your sister hand, second look, that is you wearing the white short jump suit and it looks like a “skirt” to me.
Eh..you got long legs ya.
I already said what – now also very cute, no? Hahahahahaha! My sister came 9 years later. I remember when my dad took our photos, we had to stand straight and still…and do what he told us! LOL!!! Long legs? I guess that’s why I’m tall – almost 6 feet…

Today, everything’s in living colour…but it does not mean that life’s more colourful. Yes, it was simpler then…and happier too, not so many problems compared to the world today.

Man in the hat must be Uncle Louis, cause he resembles ‘kay piak chu’ ppl. Hahaha!
They all resemble one another, some more than others – even your dad… I thought the TYT in his last birthday photo actually looked like Ah Lek…or the other way round!!!

How come you seldom smile in these picture STP? Is it because you were scolded back then? Ha
Wow! Your dad is speedboat champ. How about you? Are you good at riding speedboats too? :p
My father was the type who never scolded or beat us…but in his presence, we would be like mice!!! My mum scolded and caned all the time…but no effect! Hahahahahaha!!!! Same as teachers in the schools! Some shout themselves hoarse, beat the kids like dogs…but they are still not scared. Others just look, all quiet already!!! You’re the first or the second type?
Not into sports… I was the dancing champ! If you remember, I had a post on that recently.

No, we look very different… He did not look like anybody in the family…but now that he’s old, he seems to resemble my father in some ways…

Should compile all those precious old photos into a photobook.FYI, there will be a regatta in Sibu next February or March and the Sarawak Regatta will likely be held in Sibu next year.
Oh? Not for me… I wouldn’t want to stand in the sun to watch. The last one I went to was in the early 70s. I didn’t see any boats. I was hanging around the whole time at the requesting stall! Hahahahahaha!!!
