My friend, Jimmy, is in town from Bintulu…and I thought, for a change, we could have dinner at home instead of going to eat at the usual places in town. I did not have time to cook myself, so I just headed to my favourite Bandong stall and go a few dishes for four of us.
This was the ayam berlada (pepper chicken)…

RM25.00 for one large Pyrex bowl of it! Actually, it did not look that much in the covered plastic container at the stall, so I just sapu habis (swept it clean). In the end, we hardly ate half of it even though it was very nice! Next time, I think I should estimate by counting the number of pieces – 2 or 3 each, that’s all!
I also bought RM5.00 of this young jackfruit cooked in santan/coconut milk (buah nangka muda masak lemak)…

…and then I spotted these…

Braised chicken claws in soy sauce! Jimmy loves chicken claws – not me! I do not touch the stuff! Hahahahaha!!! And guess what? They were selling them at 4 for RM1.00!!! I bought RM2.00 of that just for him! At the Chinese food stall at Taman Selera Muhibbah, they were selling them at 60 sen each at one time (Dunno now!) and people were ordering them like they were free of charge.
I was positive that Jimmy had told me once that he loved brinjal, so I also bought RM3.00 of terung masak sambal (brinjal cooked in sambal)

He said that he never did but coincidentally, somehow this year, he had developed a love for the veg! Gee! Must be my sixth sense! LOL!!!…And then I saw their pucuk kelapa sawit muda masak lemak (young oil palm shoots cooked in santan/coconut milk)…

…and it looked so enticing that I just had to have RM3.00 of that as well.
We had a delightful dinner…or at least, to me, it was. We ate till we were so full and yet, we had so much leftover – and all that for only RM38.00!If we were to eat at one of those restaurants outside that we used to frequent, for 4 persons, it would cost not less than RM60.00, I’m sure…

Yummy! ..too bad can’t find much of those like “pucuk kelapa sawit muda masak lemak” and “buah nangka muda masak lemak” over here.. remind me of the great varieties of foods I can get, back in Sarawak..
Dunno why but I don’t seem to enjoy eating out anymore, be it a 10-course dinner or I order what I want at those Chinese restaurants. Can’t stand the excess msg especially! Would rather have homecooked food, no matter how simple, and kampong-style especially! So much nicer!…But I do love hawker food still…
Yerrr….I wasn’t FC again! =(
You’re late…by 4 minutes! Hahahahahahaha!!! Never mind! I’m not FC in yours too!
Hardly ate half of it? What a waste ler! The ayam berlada sure looks very hot and yummy. LOL
Jackfruit cooked in santan? This is the first time I heard about it. My….so exotic? At least to me.
Come on over to Sibu…and I will see to it that you get to try all these exotic dishes! Yum! Yum! They’re really very nice…but I think I can cook it a little bit better! LOL!!!
You don’t eat chicken claw either huh! :p Same here. The brinjal looks awesome. My, you are making me salivating this early? I haven’t take my breakfast yet! ;P
Anyway good morning everyone.
Well, good morning to you too!…Ya, imagine what they had been stepping on! Just can’t get rid of that mental picture! Hahahahahaha!!!! Nice,ya?…The food in Sibu! Cheap some more! Drool! Drool!
There are only 2 things I can eat from the above – chicken and the claws
Eyew…you eat the claws too? Hahahahahaha!!! Why? You don’t eat the masak lemak? They’re nice!!! Of course, if I cook it myself, it’s even nicer – extra lemak, extra pedas! LOL!!! I don’t quite like the brinjal though….but my daughter loves it!
I’m so hungry! Haven’t had breakfast yet. Tak sempat. Don’t know what to eat also…Hehehehe!
Ya…sometimes when you eat out, you really dunno what to eat! Don’t seem to have any appetite…and crave for plain porridge and salted fish/eggs! Drool!
why I never see these good food in Bandong?
I only order ‘bua beng ham’ there
This stall sells homecooked food during lunch hour – around 12 to 1 only but you have to go early or some of the things would have run out very quickly. Business looks very good these days. You can tapao rice and the items of your choice like at the economical fast food stalls… The kurma, masak hitam and masak merah…all very nice, but as for the curry…I think mine is nicer! LOL!!!
Food looks good. hmm… every time i see your post on malay delicacies, i get a craving for Selera Bunda nasi padang. hahaha.
I loved the nasi padang at Rendevouz – Dhoby Ghaut/Bras Basah Road in Singapore. Was an affordable cafe/restaurant in the early 70s…but now it’s part of a posh hotel. I’m sure the prices are real posh too….not for me anymore! Must try that Selera Janda…I mean, Bunda place when I go to Kuching again… LOL!!!
Yalor! I was thinking about Selera Bunda (how you came up with Ibu Janda is beyond me
) everytime you post about Malay delicacies too!
Hahahahaha!!! I thought it rhymes!!! And it sounds funny too, I think! Btw, what’s “janda”? Is that a widow or a divorcee…or is it a single lady? My BM…half past six one lah! Hahahaha!!!
Janda is divorcee. Widow is balu. Spinster is andartu. My BM also half past six
Andartu?….I didn’t know that. Hahahahaha!!!!
Yeah…short for anak dara tua
Omigawd! That’s so mean!!!….Now you have made a whole lot of enemies liao! LOL!!!
You really ‘bak chiew pai’, everything also want. Next time don’t get out of the car. Just tell them to give you 2or 3 dishes!
Yalor! In the end, we ate so much and we still had so much leftover…
OMG the dishes are so cheap but the portion is big! How lucky…
Ya…I think there was enough for 6-8 people! Over-estimated when buying… I think if I had bought around RM20 of the food, that would have been just nice!
Yum yum! Those dishes look so nice and make me drooling now. Cheap and nice.
Ya…have you gone there to buy yet? All homecooked…and then they bring over to the stall to sell! Nice, if you like kampong-style cooking…
P.S. Something wrong with your blog! Every time I clicked, the instant it opened – a blue page appeared telling me something was wrong…..
Not yet go and buy it…Will check on my page to see if anything wrong. Thanks for the info.
Ok…will hop over and see after this. Hope everything’s all right now…
Hellooooo, remember me…..I hope. Kuching is not doing me any good where my mid section is concerned nor my behind…. ah how I wish I was back in simple old Sibu. God …. food and more food… always always make me hungry….
Hi Vim!….Wouldn’t it be worse if you were back here in Sibu then? LOL!!! Don’t worry! Your behind will always be that size, no matter how you slim down! Blame it on your Bollywood bone structure! ROTFLMAO!!! Gosh…it’s been so long! Haven’t seen you since you deserted us and left town… Sulk! Sulk! LOL!!!
If I am fortunate to be invited by you for a meal again, will definitely auto-opt to lunch/dine at your place. I reckon your cooking is as good as Picasso can paint! Chicken feet is a favourite of my son and a must for yumcha! Good for the shin! haven’t had the nangka muda in ages, neither the tupang rebus!!
Got one tupang in the kitchen! Missus bought it last Saturday…and never got round to cooking it. I think I will have to do it myself tomorrow or Saturday. If you had come during my breaks from teaching…or on a weekend, I could have cooked more special dishes….
Likewise, next time I go to Sibu, hope u can take me out too..
No problem at all! And get you all the nice things to eat from around here…
Wow, the ayam berlada good. So does the jackfruit with santan. But I wouldn’t to go eat at Selera Bunda. The last time I went there to eat just before I came to Perth, there were so many lalats hovering around the food, esp. around the sambal kiam-hu. When I commented on it to the waiter, he just shrugged and said, “Ikan masin bah, kak”.
Gosh! Must strike the name off my list! Like the stalls opposite Melissa’s institute! Infested with flies! One look, no more appetite!
