When I got married, we had to go up to the altar to sign the family register – my missus and I, my best man and the bridesmaid (Stella)…and my best man whispered to me, “You didn’t bring your own pen?” Gosh! How was I to know? It wasn’t like I got married every day! And nobody told me ahead of time. So we had no choice but to sign using the priest’s cheap white and blue ballpoint pen…
Now, you may have read in my previous post that I was rummaging through my closet and found an old t-shirt that I bought 15 years ago in London. Well, I also found this…

Raymond Weil, no less! I can’t even remember who gave it to me but I guess it must have been my father. He was into those expensive watches at one time and he must have bought himself a Raymond Weil and got the pen as a free gift, and he gave it to me…

Now, that would be a nice pen to use to sign the papers at a wedding, don’t you think?
I also found this one tucked somewhere in my closet…

I remember this one! It was given to me by my publisher around the time when I was quite active writing English Language workbooks for upper secondary classes.
And talking about pens, this one has got a lot of sentimental value. It was given to me by my students in the debating team, the first that I had ever handled in my entire life, when I joined Sacred Heart in 1992 and we went all the way up to the final at national level held at the Dewan Tunku Chancellor Universiti Malaya, and emerged 1st runner-up against the team from the premier Royal Military College.

The boys gave that to me in appreciation of all that I did to help and guide them through the experience that I’m sure neither they nor I would ever forget.
So, if anybody’s getting married and would like to borrow a pen, I have a few… After all, as they say, when you get married, you must have “something old, someting new, something borrowed, something blue”.

Vivid memories from 1992. We almost ruled the world…well, we did in Sarawak anyways. Haha! Loving your blog. Keep it up. Warmest regards, Joe Cotter.
Hi Dr. Joe! Thanks for dropping by. I guess you’ve been around before since you did not have to await moderation. Yeah…those were good times. With the present Mandarin-speaking students in the school today, I don’t think there will ever be a team ever again that will get anywhere near where we got to then…. Remember the prizes that the semi-finalists Penang and Pahang got? They wrote on it “Pasukan yang kalah”! LOL!!! We did not get that!

That reminds me of a picture that I have seen on the net something back, captioned with “Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.” It amused me then. The picture shows signs found on a tram or train where seats are reserved for the aged (something old), woman with baby (something new), pregnant woman (something borrowed?) and disabled (something blue, the blind man is in blue). What creativity!
Hmmm…interesting, but why is the pregnant woman something borrowed? The baby’s merely borrowing the space in the womb?

Really not sure, why the pregnant woman is something borrowed! Someone wiser may know?
LOL!!! Well, I would think my suggestion’s a possibility…

“sign your name across my heart….i want you to be my baby…..” i still like that song…….can u sing it STP?
One of my fave songs! I thought of posting the video clip with the post but in the end, decided not to. Not in my repertoire though! I do slow, sentimental…romantic songs – just like the person! Hahahahahaha!!!

Well,at least you know how to sign your name or else you would have to do the thumbprint!LOL!
And luckily the bridesmaid can do! Otherwise have to colour the thumb with the ballpoint pen ink for her thumbprint! No ink pad! Hahahahaha!!!!

LOL! What can I say! My father in law lent my hubby his gold pen for us to sign our register paper, and when the time came, with all the excitement during the ceremony, my hubby forgot to take it out from his shirt pocket. We only realized it when we look back into the photos…
Good grief! I must make sure that doesn’t happen if somebody borrows mine for his wedding ceremony. Hahahahaha!!!

I only have one very cheap pen from Sheaffer, that also from a buy 1 free 1 offer. Not a fan of luxury pens
I’m not into expensive pens either. But over the years, I’ve been receiving lots and lots of pens when I went round to give talks or from friends and students…mostly Parker.

I think my number of pens can be comparable with yours. Hope i can put up in my blog for your viewing and my sentiments too… hahaha..
I have Sheaffer, Parker, CRoss and so many others though some r not as branded names as it is..
Keep up your good blog.. I like reading it since I hit on your blog lately.. Cheers!
Hope your computer wont take much of your $$$ away.. hehehe..
Welcome, Shelapolly. Thanks for dropping by. You’ve a blog? But you didn’t type your url…so I wouldn’t be able to link it. Wow! You certainly have a collection of a variety of pens. Mine’s mostly Parker and there are others like Alain de’Louis, Unic… Not really a collector, just keeping those that people give me.
Ya, I hope it’s not going to cost much. Got a guy to come and fix the switch yesterday and I was charged RM25…and last night when I switched it on again, it got stuck… Sending the whole CPU to the shop this morning, may need to change a new casing and that will be a couple of hundred ringgit, I guess…and I’m broke! Hope they accept credit cards!
