When I got married, we had to go up to the altar to sign the family register – my missus and I, my best man and the bridesmaid (Stella)…and my best man whispered to me, “You didn’t bring your own pen?” Gosh! How was I to know? It wasn’t like I got married every day! And nobody told me ahead of time. So we had no choice but to sign using the priest’s cheap white and blue ballpoint pen…

Now, you may have read in my previous post that I was rummaging through my closet and found an old t-shirt that I bought 15 years ago in London. Well, I also found this…

Raymond Weil pen 1

Raymond Weil, no less! I can’t even remember who gave it to me but I guess it must have been my father. He was into those expensive watches at one time and he must have bought himself a Raymond Weil and got the pen as a free gift, and he gave it to me…

Now, that would be a nice pen to use to sign the papers at a wedding, don’t you think?

I also found this one tucked somewhere in my closet…

Parker pen 1

I remember this one! It was given to me by my publisher around the time when I was quite active writing English Language workbooks for upper secondary classes.

And talking about pens, this one has got a lot of sentimental value. It was given to me by my students in the debating team, the first that I had ever handled in my entire life, when I joined Sacred Heart in 1992 and we went all the way up to the final at national level held at the Dewan Tunku Chancellor Universiti Malaya, and emerged 1st runner-up against the team from the premier Royal Military College.

Parker pen 2

The boys gave that to me in appreciation of all that I did to help and guide them through the experience that I’m sure neither they nor I would ever forget.

So, if anybody’s getting married and would like to borrow a pen, I have a few… After all, as they say, when you get married, you must have “something old, someting new, something borrowed, something blue”.
