I love eggs. Ummm…let me rephrase that! I love eating eggs. Arrrghhh!!! You all jolly well know what I mean! LOL!!!

I love them half-boiled, hard-boiled, poached or fried – omelette, bull’s eye/sunny side up or scrambled, or braised in soy sauce. My daughter loves eggs too. She would go to Old Town and have their perfectly done half-boiled eggs…

As for me, when taking them half-boiled, I prefer the white hard like hard-boiled but the yolk still runny. To get it like that, I would put the eggs in the water in a saucepan and bring it to boil and after a while, I would remove it from the fire and break the eggs into a saucer…to be eaten with soy sauce and pepper.

And talking about eggs reminds me of this short story by my favourite short story writer from Singapore, Catherine Lim. The title is…that’s right, “Eggs”. It’s about this little six-year-old girl who was utterly confused because she was scolded by her mother when she asked for an egg and told that the likes of them could not afford to eat eggs as they were poor.
They lived with her rich First Aunt and her two cousins and one day, the cousins had a plate of fried eggs to eat. One of them accused her of stealing one of their eggs. Her mother was furious and bought a bag of eggs, cooked all of them and forced her to finish the whole lot and when she could not finish, the mother walloped her. The poor child was utterly confused – why had her mother refused to give her an egg and then forced her to eat so many at one go?
Things sometimes seem that way in life. When the children are small, they would be forced to finish all their food. Fat babies are considered cute and lovable whereas the skinny ones somehow do not seem to have the same attraction. But when they grow bigger, the parents would control their diet and refuse to let them eat the things that they love for fear that they would grow too fat.
When a toddler starts moving to the music, everyone would clap happily to encourage the child and say, “Dance! Dance! Good kid!” Clever kid!” However, when the child grows up to be a teen and goes dancing, once the parents hear of it, they will threaten, “Go! Go dancing again and I’ll chop your legs off!”
At home, children are told not to waste and to finish off everything on the plate. However, at a sit-down dinner, should they want to take the last piece, they would be reprimanded at home, if not on the spot, that they are such a disgrace – so greedy, as if they had never eaten in their lives.
I suppose this is just the tip of the iceberg and there are a lot of other instances where parents tend to contradict themselves and the poor kids end up utterly confused. Anybody know of any more to share with the rest of us?

im also a healthy young lady!
i only eat yolk if it’s half-boiled egg
other than that, i prefer to ditch it =.=
They say the yolk is the worst part – high cholesterol….but if you take the whole egg, then it is all right. Sort of balances everything like the yin and the yang…

STP, yes eggs are one of the best inventions by God. They are nature’s best gift. hahaha…. versatile, can cook in any way and the outcome will still be delicious.
It certainly is versatile…and I did not mention how eggs are cooked as an ingredient in all kinds of dishes…and I simply love egg custard and the tarts too! Drool!

I love egg too! The best is half cooked egg and I will suck the yolk out as that’s the best way to eat the egg yolk without wasting any drop of it. Haha. I like to eat egg with tomato sauce.
That’s actually the “right” way to eat half-boiled egg…in an egg cup. Crack the top of the shell and remove and into the hole, sprinkle salt and pepper…and scoop with a little spoon to eat. But we’re so used to our ways – break them into a saucer and mix with soy sauce and pepper and slurp…..LOUDLY! Hahahahaha!!!! I eat hard-boiled, fried eggs and omelette with tomato sauce, not half-boiled…

Er.. there’s a such thing called ‘egg cup’? HAHAHA! Not only A-cup, B-cup like that?
Got lah! Western people serve their half-boiled eggs in them, and some post hotels here do that too… But of course, you only know the other type of cups! Or along that same line, are you thinking of cups for your eggs? LOL!!!

can we still take half boiled egg???
Why not? You can buy the low-cholesterol and Omega-3 enriched ones…or the free range eggs, if you are more health-conscious…

Hehe…uhm…so how many times were YOU threatened with chopped legs?
I love eating eggs…period. My last shipment had 4 casualties, the most so far!
If the threats had been carried out, I would be today….LEGLESS!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!! I guess Hiok does not have my expertise in handling eggs… Oops! Chup! Chup! Stop right there, TOC! Hahahahaha!!!

Why can’t we take half boiled egg? Salmonella? I wash all my eggs before storing in fridge.
And don’t keep them for too long! So far I don’t have any problem…but then again, I don’t seem to have a problem with anything. Would be good once in a while to detox…and slim down! Hahahahaha!!!!

I love to eat eggs too – no matter how you cook them, even cooking them with other food, like fried rice, crabs..I would put in extra! Long time back, I used to tease my children – exam time, they could have two eggs plus a chicken drumstick so that they can come back with 100 marks! That was quite a lot of fun!
I will write my egg encounter this morning in my own blog later probably!
I had two half-boiled eggs every morning all the way through school – my mum would always prepare…until I got so sick of them! Now, after so long, I’ve got the liking for them back… Hah! That was indeed an interesting way to motivate your kids! LOL!!!

Uncle Lee
I too love eggs, over easy with toast and margarine, light sprinkling of sugar.
Have a nice day and go to work on an egg. Lee.
Welcome, Uncle Lee. It certainly has been a long, long time…and finally, you’ve decided to drop by. Still writing your long love stories? Wah…your name’s Shigeta…as in James Shigeta – “Sayonara….Japanese goodbye….” or was it “Flower Drum Song”? Hahahahahaha!!!! The young people won’t know what the heck we’re rambling about! LOL!!! Still working on eggs, Lee?…At your age?

a friend tries to do ala rocky after seeing the movie. 3 raw eggs in a glass just before going out jogging. you can hear the trumpet blowing : “ta-ta-ta-ta… ta-ta-ta-ta…” now sooner he downs the eggs, it’s straight to the toilet. a case of life imitating art.
what’s worst? a parent tries to reprimand a child, and the wife or grandparents interjects: you’re like that also when you’re young!
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven
I guess they ate fresh raw eggs…and I also hear they’re good for the voice and can be a remedy for sore throats!!! Ya…conflicts among adults often lead to very confused children…

ROTFLMAO…… good opening line…. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
anyway… contradiction is the spice of life….. am facing it now…. one minute he goes.. “The show must go on..” the next minute in public he says… “personally, i feel that the festival should be postponed” senile old fart…. (referring to GC… not my dad.. hahahaha)
I knew you or KNB would pick up on that! LOL!!! I wouldn’t wanna go anywhere near RWMF…with this H1N1 thingy going on, and they’re bringing in a Maori group from NZ for the Borneo Cultural Festival this month. Gee! Hope they fumigate them first! Hahahahahaha!!!!

Personally, I also think the fest should be cancelled. So many aussies some more!
Yup…me too! Some countries are already not sending reps to certain games/competitions in view of the current situation…so why must they insist on holding it at this point in time? Unless they make them all come a week or two earlier and quarantine them to make sure they’re safe to go out and mingle with the locals….

oh yes….i love eating eggs too…can’t get enough of them. i always have at least 2 for breakfast…half boiled or sunny side up. STP, i read the story about the little girl from singapore many years ago & i still can,t understand why her mother did that….anyway you are right, many things that are considered good and can be tolerated when you are young is a big no no when you grow up…..
Ah well…is there anything that you don’t love…when it comes to food? LOL!!! It’s this Chinese thing about “face” or pride. The mother was so humiliated by the accusation that she went and bought the eggs (even though they were too poor to have eggs) and forced her daughter to eat all of them to show the rich relatives that she could buy her own eggs – to save face, didn’t want to be looked down upon….and the innocent little girl could not understand all that.

Ha Ha, sometimes we do confuse our children but do not realise it! Good one!
You’ve only just begun….but I think you’ll do fine, showering them with love and always cooking all the yummy dishes for them.

I love to eat eggs to. I prefer half-boiled chicken eggs. I remembered my late grandma always make 2 for me when i slept over at her place. Aw….so delicious. Now nobody will make that special breakfast for me anymore.
Hey! Aren’t you married? Your wife not going to make for you? Then you tell her you’ll keep your eggs to yourself…I mean the ones that you cook for yourself to eat! ROTFLMAO!!!

Ooo…i do love soft-boiled eggs. Yum! Eaten with a dash of soy sauce & pepper. Aiyah….now i’m hungry. Waiting for my chicken pie in the oven. Sure is taking a long time to cook…
As for the piggy flu, I’m trying my best not to go to crowded places, especially with my lingering (read: bloody-annoying-keeps-me-up-at-night) cough. Not for fear of spreading my germs, but more worried that with my immune system not on top form, I may catch undesirable air-borne diseases.
Chicken pie? Own made or frozen? Yum! Yum! Hahahahaha!!! My English lecturer said always keep the neck covered – wear a woollen muffler…or wrap a sweater around to prevent chills and coughs in the winter. Take care there!

Please forgive me, this time i shall not dispense any comments cos i dont know much about eggs, i love eating eggs in whatever forms….
tell you what, you really give me the motivation to head to the kitchen and rekindle my love for cooking again…
You’ve been saying that since the last few posts. The spirit is willing, theflesh is weak? LOL!!! Actually this is supposed to be a post about child upbringing but looks like everybody got sidetracked by the long intro about eggs…or they never got to that part about parents confusing the poor innocent kids!

Chicken pies made from scratch. Pies here are too salty for my liking.
Ya, the 4n20 ones that Gerrie gave were very salty, Mrs Macs…slightly better. But I did not like the pastry… Would very much prefer the freshly-baked ones we had in NZ…or make my own.

I love eggs very much, but limited to half boiled eggs and omelet
Omelet with big onions, I love that the most!
Contradictions, growing up as kid sure I had my own shares of ‘getting confused’ haha! After a while, it’s just a matter of looking at things from a different perspectives or putting myself in their shoes. At times, we kids are quite stubborn and rebellious..
Well, confused parents bred confused kids, do you agree? lol.
I would say confusing parents raise confused kids… You don’t like your eggs hard? Hahahahahaha!!!!

Why your eggs got so much soy sauce?!! It’s all black! Well, parents sometimes are confused themselves and thus can’t blame the child being further confused by their parents’ behaviour.
I use mushroom soy…not so salty, a little but sweet. Yum! Yum! In the past, parents were not really educated and familiar with parenting skills and just followed what their parents did. Parents today should be wiser…

I used to go crazy over half-done egg with soy sauce and pepper until one day long time ago, i tasted something solid in my mouth. It assembled a dead tiny chick! yuck! I vomitted, and since then i havent been eating half-done egg for almost 20 years now haha!!
Eeee…how come nobody saw it!! Sometimes there’s a black dot indicating that the egg had been fertilised, but at least the chick hasn’t formed…so not so bad. But then again…they eat chick embryo (balut) in the Philiippines. Eyew….I will never touch that!

Eggs are great. I’d love to have them anytime. I can even skip chicken or fish to have eggs if necessary. Don’t listen to the cholesterol c**p because the cholesterol from eggs are actually good for the body.
Yakah! At my age, it doesn’t really matter to me anymore… I just eat what I like but I know of someone who had two eggs a day all his life and lived to over 100, with all his teeth intact!!! Lots of calcium!

Hahaha.. eggs.. HAHAHA… anyway, i would recommend you to go to Cuppa Kopi Roti.. i think it’s quite nice over there.. plus the bread.. yummy.. *i’m hungry*
I’ve yet to try out that place…but I’ve seen the flimsy chairs!!! I don’t think they will be able to carry my weight! Hahahahahaha!!! Don’t wanna embarrass myself! LOL!!!
